Vast differences between domestic management, International Youth Management, Academy work, Player Development, Footballing consultancy etc.

Don't necessarily have to be a good manager to be successful in Academy / Youth Football. Comes with a decent pedigree.

As a general point around this and recent recruitment, regardless of the Boothroyd as an individual (and if successful) it feels like theres at least some thought / direction / consideration / focus behind the academy.

Which is a good thing.

Are you actually claiming David Moyes is not a good manager? Ridiculous comment. He clearly made poor decisions in terms of job choice e.g. Sunderland and Man Utd. But he was never overhyped fantastic manager for both Everton and West Ham.

Moyes could easily have been sacked the other season at West Ham.

About which he will have flanneled about a valuable point and a new experience for the team. Another one of those mentalists who have to find a positive in any situation. Appointed no doubt on a bulging with achievement and bullshit c.v rather than actual viewing of how his team's play.

He used to coach me when I was about 16. I’ll be interested to see if he’s come on a bit..not hugely inspiring but equally he has lots of experience. Seems like a bloke who knows a lot of people and gets jobs because of that.

The bit that scares me is if he did progress that role and got hands on with coaching. He's been a disaster at every club he's managed since Watford in 2006.

He’s not been brought in to coach so his style of play and boring England under 21’s is of no relevance. However he’s spent a very long time in what is now a very good England youth set up.

It sounds like he’s been brought in to advise and mentor coaches in the pipeline presumably on how to properly coach young players at the top level and to provide input on any academy restructures/construction in the future his experience should be invaluable he can even give insight on what went wrong for him and what to avoid in the end.

Not sure how getting another vastly experience football person in the building can be a bad thing. We have a board who frankly wouldn’t have much idea what a top academy looks like but now we have a plethora of staff who do. If the academy’s progress and redevelopment is being left in their hands I’m not sure we can ask much more than that.

I should imagine as a coach mentor, he'll be passing on his experience of developing youth, of which he has worked with England at 4 youth levels and so has lots of relevant experience.

As a consultant, again I'd assume he'll be consulting the board on acadamy development.

I know a lot of people gave commented on his ability to manage and coach a team, but that's not what he's been brought in to do imo

I hope this is a indication that investment in the new academy site is coming I would think he's coming in as a coach trainer. Sure I read somewhere that for cat 1 you have to show that you can bring young coaches through as well as developing players (I am sure someone will correct me )

I’m sure they can and hope they do but if he’s brought in as a consultant and the current coaches ignore him then what’s the point in bringing him in as a consultant

100% when you think of the money Everton have squandered over the last few years (£560m) if only they'd had Moyes to spend a fraction of it wisely. I like Moyes, he was never going to follow AF at Man Utd as has been proved subsequently and Sunderland make us look stable. I hope he gets 4th on goal difference to Man Utd.

Reading the news item it doesn't say if the role is full time. I suspect with role of consultant this maybe only part-time.

Great appointment at this level. Very good coach, not so much a manager but he's not in a management role so I fail to see the problem. He's short-term help, if nothing else. We have people like Del and Jack with only limited experience. He's an expert at coaching. Surely when you're lacking expertise you bring someone in to advise you? Seems logical to me.

Personally I think it is clear and obvious Hecky is really the long term DOF and short term manager. He is here for the long term and the long term involves developing Academy Players. The medium term is the interesting point. At some point we will need a first team coach/manager to take over from Hecky and work with Lester and McCall That will be the interesting appointment.
