The club is building a structure and its obviouse we are aiming for an academy 1.

Really good appointment. Vastly experienced, particularly with younger players with England U21's.

Doesn't matter who we appoint for any position, in some people's opinion they aren't good enough for whatever reason.

Interesting his last managerial role was at Northampton. He guided them to the League 2 play-off final in 2013, only to be sacked during the following season with the club bottom of the league. His successor was.............

You’d hope that he’s have some good experience of young English players with his involvement with the England youth teams…and able toll keep tabs on up and coming players with his connections in the set up.

That said he didn’t really do great things with an awful lot of talent in the under 21s and from memory he was a bit of a long ball merchant previously… though stand to be corrected on that

The consultant bit sounds like he will also be focussed on improving the structure of our academy setup, given his experience of working in some of the finest setups in the country. Shows a signal of intent to get to Tier1 status.

Doesn't suggest that he will have any input into on-field matters. Based on that - Good appointment.

That comment seems unfair to all the current coaches. They surely can make up their own minds !

Very undecided on this one. He's coached most of the England age group teams and to be fair we've had some good ones go through to the first team. He's had a lot to do with football at that level outside of his stint at Watford

How much is his influence over them and how much is the coaches at each player's parent club is open to interpretation however when you consider how badly the U21's did in their last tournament when it was chock full of players who had decent amounts of top level experience.

I'm just getting images of him as our caretaker manager if the wheels come off with Hecky, McCall and Lester and he takes us, Micky Adams-style, hoofballing back to League One.

I can't see how this can really be a bad appointment, he has worked with youth players at an international level.
He should be able to help Geary with his experience.

He seems to be well liked by everyone who’s worked under him, his results as a team manager with The England U21s were horrendous however.. as long as he’s not involved in match management I think this is an okay appointment

To be honest you can put him alongside, Steve McClaren, Eddie Howe, and possibly David Moyes, all at some point hyped up by the media as the next big thing, and then shot down as and when they don't live up to the expectations they didn't create.
Only a matter of time re Howe, and Moyes has rode his luck with West Ham and bought a little more time.

Are you actually claiming David Moyes is not a good manager? Ridiculous comment. He clearly made poor decisions in terms of job choice e.g. Sunderland and Man Utd. But he was never overhyped fantastic manager for both Everton and West Ham.
