The nobheads who sit beind me always have a scapegoat ,even when we are decent ,lately it has been Tonge ,Montgomery ,Collins ,and now taking up the mantle is Porter. One particluar meathead is always comparing him with Sharp and harping on about him being injury prone. Can't we wait until Porter actually becomes injury prone for us a doesn't score ,for the first time in 10 years I am seroiusly considering moving seats.

Porter has played more and scored more than Sharp so for this season anyway.

Sounds to me like he sits in front of someone with an agenda to get Porter out and his own personal favourite in....

jss block h ,supposed to be a family stand ,but when the combined mental age of the 4 of them is less than my 7 year old daughter (who went to her 2nd game on saturday and loved it) I suppose I cant argue.

I'm not impressed with him so far but if he's scoring you cant knock him.

That Mendez-Laing deserves more flack TBH. Built like a brick shithouse and gets knocked off the ball more than Flynn

Poter been selected for League 1 team of the week
Quinn and Collins also in it

He's been 'fine' so far and considering he's not entirely match sharp or fit, that's easily as much as we can expect from him.

A couple of goals so far, and if he continues with a similar ratio, he'll be well into double figures.

On saturday I thought he's link up and hold up play was good actually.

I thought he deserved more credit than he got from alot of our fans on Saturday too. When you consider how little he's played in the last couple of years, a bit of rust is to be expected. I think he's getting better and fitter every game, and I'm looking forward to seeing if it continues.

He looked a yard quicker on Saturday to me. Touch still rusty, but he's only gonna get there with time on the pitch.

I've not got a problem with us having to be patient with him if he scores a tap in every week and we win :)

Exactly foxy, two tap-ins yes but there's been plenty of times in the last few seasons when no-one has been in that position to do it. I said a few weeks ago that he might look a different player given 10 consecutive starts so let's see if we can get that kind of run from him.

Still don't think Porter and Cresswell complement eachother. When Tønne came on he immediately took advantage of the room between the oppostion midfield and defence and we created more.

Totally agree on this Bergen, I thought Tonne really looked to be the compliment to Cresswell and also looked more dangerous outside the box.

I need to see more of Porter, but I thought he looked poor.

But perhaps we need a man to put the tap ins away too.

True but Bury were completely knackered by then, Tønne may not have made that impact from the start, still he looked good, I also thought Porter and Cressy seemed to be better together in second half.

Yes, I agree that Bury looked tired and demoralised. Watched the game on BP and had an extra look at Tønne's cameo.

I think Porter will improve. He was certainly looking to put himself about at Burton and was disappointed to be subbed - that's a good sign to me.
Like others have said with the tap ins - it shows he has the instinct for it. we have lacked that sort of poachers goal for a long while.
By contrast it's plainly evident that Ched never gets tap ins cos he cannot read the game and he reacts too slowly - Ched never gets in to head the ball either, cos he's nesh.
Porter does both of these and if he finishes with 15-20 goals this season, all of which are scored from inside the 6 yard box, then he will have done his bit and I shant complain.

Give him a bit of time and he will come good if he stays injury free - and I am sure that he will this season.

Said it before but how many goals did Lineker score from outside the area (or even the 6 yard box), not many.

I think he looked a tad rusty still against Bury and didn't look comfortable after taking a knock, but all in all I see more positives from his play than negatives.

As with McDonald, I think that game sunder his belt will show how good he really is. It's just a shame they both didn't have a longer pre-season with us.

I do think we've lacked any kind of movement and gambling in the box and Wilson seems to have changed all that. Both Porter and Cresswell are looking for balls more than I expected and Lowton pushing forward for his goal against Bury shows it's something across the whole team. Tap ins or not they all count on the goals for column and it's a big plus not feeling the worry of a low goal difference right now - long may that continue.

The other key thing is that they are playing to feet and supporting each other so there is often an option to pass to or for someone to pick up the pieces as they are closer to the play.
Blackwell & Mickey had the striker too isolated so by the time the midfield got up to them they had lost the ball.
Since we now move forward as a team we have more players to press the opposition and dont give them a break.
Consequently the ball isn't just coming back at us straight away to defend again and again - eventually leading to us conceding a goal.

I know you don't like him Kenilworth, but with the very good points you've mentioned in this post I think Evans will improve for us. Like you say, the striker was often isolated last season and having to do too much work to get a scoring chance. With the strikers now focussing more on getting in scoring areas rather than creating their own chances, it's helping them get more goals.

I might be wrong, but I think Evans will come good with our new style of play.
