MANAGER SACKED

so just who would you have been happy with to replace Slav, or would you be happy if Slav wasn't sacked, or would you voice your opinion if Slav was here on Sunday and we lost?
I personally wouldn't have sacked him. But its becoming evidently clear why they have due to lack of funds.

Slav being sacked isn't really the issue for me, after all he's done exactly what Bryan Robson did but with a more talented squad. And Robson is universally accepted to be one of our worst managers ever!

Everything else that has happened to this club since the Prince got control though, has been an absolute joke (including in the last few hours), and there doesn't seem to be any light at the end of the tunnel.

With all due respect if its that clear to those on the board, that know spending in January isn't an option and given that we are not in the automatic or play off places, that might warrant a gamble in January to get us over the line, and Slavs less than thrilling results/football, isn't it right to sack him now and not next March or April ?

He was sacked

so the Sun are saying "following an inconsistent start to the season, United have opted to get rid - hiring last season's caretaker Paul Heckingbottom on a permanent basis until 2026."

2026!

2026!

We have a long term plan.

Gutted, was willing to give slav time to build something. Genuinely quite worried about what direction we are going in.

short term i think we will do marginally better but long term i cant see how we will improve on a manager like slav. When he gets it right (which requires time) then there arent many better for a club of our size.

what a shit show!

Is this the first time we've sacked a manager and not thanked him for his services? The club statement lacks class and respect. Even the pigs thank the managers they sack.

How much of the club's transfer funds have the club blown by hiring Slav and his team then sacking them in less than six months?

I wasnt happy with the performances and results, but real change takes time. He probably needed two seasons to get us up there challenging for promotion.

In my opinion Slav has been treated shoddily. If you are going to sack someone you should at least thank them for their efforts.

Since gaining promotion to the PL Abdullah and Betttis have sacked one proven top class manager and forced out another. Now we're supposed to believe that the best route to success is with our youth players with Hecky as 'football manager' whatever that is

Were 9 points from play offs. Slavs philosophy needed time. its a whole different culture from wilder. The board cant expect a manager with the squad we have to instantly transform it. Less than 20 games in is harsh.

But again if no cash is available to bring in the players Slav wanted in January, his efforts at coaching players to adapt to new positions hasn't shown in any game, its not in his, or perhaps any managers ability to either turn Brewster, Osborn into wingers or apparently improve the one winger we do have on the books Burke, or improve Robinson, McB etc
So given that seems a bit daft to keep paying Slav and his staff to do a job they can't do.

I'm seemingly very much in the minority looking at many of the posts on here, but I'm actually pleased with today's events.

I like Hecky, think he will be a very decent manager for us and will put emphasis on the young players in the academy. He knows the younger players already and the club, he's not a novice at management and will have learnt a lot from his previous stints at management and his time away to reflect and mature as a person. He's also made a decent start by surrounding himself with staff members who he trusts and who have a connection with the club. Remember also that he was very well thought of by his good friend Wilder (who some on here still worship) and he actually got better results last season in the fire fighting role handed to him by the club than CW did.

Also, watching Slavs football was just painful and apathy with the fans had set in. He was probably the right man at the wrong time/club and he looked miserable and the players confused. Time to make a decision early and move on if its not working.

And those who are moaning about the length of Heckys contract know absolutely bugger all about the terms and conditions. It could have performance related caveats in which are weighted in favour of the club, he might be on a 3rd of what Slav was pulling in, or it might be include options re length of time. Who knows, but let's not stop people getting hysterical about the details when they know nothing about it. The length of the contract also tells the players that there is permanence there and he is now the gaffer. Shape up or fuck off time for the players cos he's here to stay. I'm also pleased that the club appointed him and his team so quickly - not 3 months to appoint our man this time like it was with Slav which contributed to a shit show of a pre season plan.

Hecky has also mentioned that he wanted to step up again and if we had appointed someone else I wouldn't have been surprised if his pal Wilder had come knocking and taken him to Boro. That would have been a real shame.

So, I'm happy to state I'm in the minority and I'm pleased to have Hecky Thump as the new gaffer. Time will tell but it will be interesting to revisit these threads in the future. 😉 UTB.

First time since we sacked Wilder, yes.

To be fair, they did speak very highly of him during the press conference.

Peanuts?! Have you seen the price of peanuts these days? We can't afford peanuts. I reckon Hecky's on Aldi own brand long grain rice to have been signed up for that long.
Not even basmati? 😧

I can see your logic, but where it gets unfathomable is, when you consider, the Board appointed the man only 4 months ago.If your analysis is sound, it beggars belief why they appointed him in the first place.Surely they knew they had no cash available then, or are they just making it up as they go along?

To be honest I have no idea, perhaps as someone else said (apologies can't remember who) that the board was expecting offers to come in for Berge and a couple more, that would have given a little more 'wriggle room' on signings or loan fees

I haven't read all 17 pages, but has anyone punted the idea that the players hated Slav, Slav hated the players, and that this was a big part of it?

This is purely thoughts of a stoner. I am completely NOT ITK.

Hecky five year deal means nothing in football. Its a result business that counts.

Allways found it strange thanking someone you are sacking .

Obviously Jokanovic was appointed on the back of his promotions with Watford and Fulham, but in his 19 matches, with the exception of Peterborough, there has been nothing to suggest he was ever going to repeat those achievements at Bramall Lane. He hasn’t had the opportunity to bring in his own players, but the ones he inherited were far, far better than 16th place in the Championship.
It was his role to motivate them and to bring the best out of the squad, but the football has been slow and predictable and played with a minimum of enthusiasm and effort, which mirrored his own post match interviews. The players and Jocanovic himself, all appear to be miserable, he was clearly a bad fit, consequently his dismissal was inevitable and in my opinion better sooner, rather than later.

I am sure that Heckingbottom will be able to motivate the squad and increase the tempo of our play. I am also confident that he will at the very least keep us in the Championship, which is not something I could honestly say about Slav. Heckingbottom is no fool, he is intelligent, eloquent and has experience that will stand him in good stead. I’m happy to support him and believe he’s a decent appointment given the clubs current status and I’m expecting a completely different performance on Sunday.

Another positive was at the press conference Abdullah the money man, stated that Jokanovic‘s pay off would be all of the money that they’d earmarked for the January transfer window, so apparently Slavs due no financial compensation, every cloud eh! 😉

I'm admittedly a bit late to the party on here - has anyone suggested, what for some very odd reason seems to be Utd supporters' preferred form of protest, taking their shoes off in the South Stand car park yet?

Let's be honest he's walked because we're a joke. Just trying to save face pretending that we've sacked him

Any idea what’s actually happened before deciding who’s to blame?

Just a thought......probably wrong but..

CW left mid March.
Previous Chairman left mid April (for personal reasons)
SJ appointed end of May (apparently after lengthy discussions)
Not sure when exactly GS became Chairman

Maybe new GS initiated strategic review when he took over the Chairman role by which time SJ negotiations were underway/complete.

Could explain how SJ turned out to be the wrong appointment compounded by the indifferent start to the season.

But of course it’s much more fun to accuse the club of incompetence.

If you think that having to call out your beloved club's obvious incompetence can possibly be called "fun" , you have no idea of the utter misery & embarrasment currently felt by devoted Blades.

I'll admit that I havent trawled through th last 17 pages to read all of the views but here is mine.

first of all I am surprised and a bit disappointed that we have sacked Jokanovic so early in his tenure. He hasnt IMO been given the time or adequate resources to change to what he wants to do. He was chasing a number of wingers but we only managed to bring in MGW. That has left the team severely unbalanced with no real winger on the left and the attempts to convert Brewster, Osborn etc to that position. In the window we brought in Olsen (initially looked a great signing but has been disappointing), Davies (not been fit since arriving. Not the attacking defender that JOC was/is but has been steady in most games), Hourihane (not been given much game time but has not really pulled up any trees), MGW (the only real successful addition so far with great attacking ability and desire) and Guedioura (cameo before injury - A no lose signing other than wages.
Also the players dont seem to have bought in to the changes that he was trying to implement, whilst many have underperformed.

If, as it seems, it was evident that there was no money to be used in January, have the Board decided to push Jokanovic before he jumped in January?
That way they can do some damage limitation in terms of statements from Jokanovic about any circumstances that he was having to work under.

Now onto the appointment of Heckingbottom.

It is easy to jump to the conclusion that he was the "cheap option".
This is probably correct and he will have likely been given a small increase to his current salary and will probably be under instruction to work with what hes got left after any outgoings in January to be supplemented by our younger players (some fans may get their wish of seeing the likes of Regan Slater, Daniel Jebbison and Femi Seriki leading the way in our quest for promotion/mid table obscurity/last day survival/relegation - delete as appropriate).

I'll be honest, I'm underwhelmed by the appointment but it may turn out to be what we need. Only time will tell. Its likely that the Board will give him and his backroom team of McCall/Lester time as long as it doesnt go drastically wrong but.......... will the fans???? We still have a large number who jumped on the bandwagon when we were having some relative success who expect that this is what it will be like at all times.
Watching from afar (it still pains me to have to watch on TV) it seems that the majority of the fans at the games have a sense of apathy. There isnt the roar coming from the stands that I remember.

Things are flat and need a spark.

Lets hope that the players respond to Heckingbottom and his backup team and things turn around.
