Obviously Jokanovic was appointed on the back of his promotions with Watford and Fulham, but in his 19 matches, with the exception of Peterborough, there has been nothing to suggest he was ever going to repeat those achievements at Bramall Lane. He hasn’t had the opportunity to bring in his own players, but the ones he inherited were far, far better than 16th place in the Championship.
It was his role to motivate them and to bring the best out of the squad, but the football has been slow and predictable and played with a minimum of enthusiasm and effort, which mirrored his own post match interviews. The players and Jocanovic himself, all appear to be miserable, he was clearly a bad fit, consequently his dismissal was inevitable and in my opinion better sooner, rather than later.
I am sure that Heckingbottom will be able to motivate the squad and increase the tempo of our play. I am also confident that he will at the very least keep us in the Championship, which is not something I could honestly say about Slav. Heckingbottom is no fool, he is intelligent, eloquent and has experience that will stand him in good stead. I’m happy to support him and believe he’s a decent appointment given the clubs current status and I’m expecting a completely different performance on Sunday.
Another positive was at the press conference Abdullah the money man, stated that Jokanovic‘s pay off would be all of the money that they’d earmarked for the January transfer window, so apparently Slavs due no financial compensation, every cloud eh!
