As a Brummy blade unfortunately I can't get to as many games as I'd like (I still do a few)..so its the Blades Player worth the fiver a month as in like what comes with it etc??, (as I just received a small raise :D)
Cheers!

Probably is worth it now we are in the 3rd division. There will be precious few updates on TalkSport or Radio 5 about the Blades.
Nothing on Sky Sports (plan to cancel this as soon a cricket season finishes).

Still wrankles though. You pay your license fee and you can can get BBC WM or C&W football commentaries included in the fee but not get access to others because of where you live. Means you have to pay for Baldes Player to get a feed. Understand this for those abroad since they don't pay a license fee. Just another way for teh Football League and football clubs to stiff the fans. I'll bet they don't make that much out of it anyway.

Agreed on all of the above. I've just bought it for the 1st time ever, but i would really like them to produce an iphone compatible version soon!

Does anyone know if the bladesplayer works on the iphone or ipad if you use the skyfire browser?

Also just noticed that they do an accessible version ....that is inaccessible if you have javascript switched off.

Fail

As Kenilworth says there won't be many matches available on the internet or tv so the only way is Bladesplayer.
The only downside is having to listen to Seth 's off topic nonsense and silly giggling.

If the sole reason for buying it is to listen to the matches, then it's not worth it. FA cup matches ain't coverd (BBC or someone else has the rights), there usually some techincal problem meaning u miss the start of the match (but don't get any refund) plus the comm is dire.

I disagree, have had it for several years and if you're outside the range of Radio Sheffield, it's a god send. OK, Keith Edwards is a miserable old bugger and a negative commentator, but perhaps he'll havea bit more to be positive about this season. Has it gone up? I thought it was only about £40 for the year? Technical problems weren't as bad last season and hardly any breaks in the commentary at all.

Is it showing Harry's goal yet? ;)

Sounded shit in the first 3 games on comms. Is it even the radio sheffield commentary?

If we are the main game on Radio Sheffield then it's the radio sheffield Commentary, otherwise it's some bloke from Premium tv i think.

I thought it was alright, though the silence at half time was a bit naff.

I guess that depends on whether you think keith Edwards is an expert or not:)

Like I said, I thought the commentary was ok, but the production values were shit

If you can't get to all the games it's worth it, especially if you struggle for reception. I felt a bit cheated initially when I realised it was just streamed RS on there but it's very handy for the reason just mentioned. You also often get match highlights, sometimes whole games and interviews not available elsewhere. I can't remember how much it is...about £40 per year? I've had it for best part of a year now and though I was initially sceptical, I'll be renewing next time round. It works well in google chrome if you have any problems with IE. Hope this helps.

Yep, well worth the dosh imo, especially for exiled blades like myself, match highlights are of good quality, often extended and there is a lot of archived stuff worth a look at. What i would really like to see though is internet streaming of every Blades game, the technology is there and i would pay a premium for that kind of service.

I'm with you Hugh Nitedite most sports have internet streaming especially for away games the club could make some money as alot would be interested.

The league sells media rights on a collective basis, so it's out of uniteds control

I wrote to the club some time ago on the subject of streaming and got the same answer, it just suprises me that no one has thought of a way of making money out of the many thousands of expats from all clubs who would jump at such a service .

Just had a call of Bladeplayer to offer me 3 months subscription to £4.99 anyone else had the call?

Thinking of making money and being competent enough to sensibly implement a solution are two very different things :)

Look at the music/film industry and their disgust at people using newer technology to distribute their product, they aren't going to stop it, what they have to do is embrace the technologies and use them to their advantage... But thats an off-topic can of worms for another time :D

Would your service be available to exiles, worldwide, europe, uk, south yorkshire, or would you black some of those areas out ?

If they continue to upload the games like they have done with Walsall, home, away or both - I'd gladly pay for it!

does anyone know if they are planning to make more entire matches available, like the walsall one?

whilst i'm happy to follow the live matches via various other media streams (either by watching soccer saturday while checking the @s24su twitter feed on saturdays, or checking the livescore iphone app if i'm in a pub on a tuesday evening), i'd love to be able to watch entire games on the 'pooter a day or so later :D

Yes it was good that they uploaded the Walsall game. No commentary though, and no replays except the goals. The commentary generally works these days, which is a good start. But yes, the commentary is poor and half the time we have to listen to the build up to the pig game.

Incidentally, the full-year price looks less good when you realise that you only need it for nine months per year.

I subscribed by direct debit, but then cancelled when they put the price up without informing me. I have since re-subscribed.

I know for a fact that Barnsley and Leeds fans rebroadcast their online commentaries, enabling other fans to listen for free.

Once you've cancelled sky for the cricket, you can still get all the BBC regions through your sky box without a subscription. Look on the TV guide at around 978 (that might be BBC NW, but BBC leeds is around there as well). You won't get much that way either of course. It'll be all weeds now.
