Wilder's pride is the reason we find ourselves in the situation we currently do.
He should have owned the relegation fully knowing the club didn't want him to leave and not been upset because we wouldn't or couldn't spend money that we didn't have. He must have known he would be best placed to take that group back up and any upheaval from the system would see us step further back.
He spent poorly at the top level. Only Ramsdale out of all the signings above 5m can eventually have been deemed a success because he was Player of the Year and sold for profit. Even he wasn't an unqualified one.
He's left us with very little to show for 2 years at the top level. As a Blade, he should have helped with the infrastructure requirements by not being so insistent on flexing his muscle in the club. It's pretty clear both Ramsdale and Brewster were 'me showing I'm in charge' signings and there was clear reluctancy within the club for these deals but they opted to back the manager. He should have made the training facilities top priority if the club meant so much to him and it was such a big issue, not put it on the agenda after he'd spent up.
In this regard he did what any other football manager would do, doubly disappointing as a Blade, spend their budget, not own the fails of that spending and then just ask for more even when he knew the money was gone.
For someone who wouldn't tip up the owner's pockets he did a pretty good job and now instead of an amazing training ground we are left with 62m tied up in Brewster, Berge and McBurnie just waiting to become a realized loss.
It's left us with about 2.5 decent options out of 11 for me - Gibbs-White, N'Diaye, neither of which were in Wilder's plans and Billy who his doing is best as creater and scorer to keep our head above water.
