Isn’t it a tragedy that Billy Sharp has had to step up to the plate to fill the roll that the manager requires.I am sure that Billy is quite aware of his limitations and he is doing a very decent job in an unfamiliar role to allow the manager to play his system of choice. We have spent a small fortune on forward players and yet the manager feels that Billy has the more complete overall game than the likes of McBurnie,Brewster and the other overpriced options.I suggest we don’t blame Sharp for his short comings, but rather those overpriced imposters who are unable to offer an serious alternative.

I don’t I watch the match and judge on what I see not what club the players support or what they wear etc etc …

Sharps a legend but he doesn’t cut it for me I support SUFC not Billy sharp FC

He’s scored 6 goals in his last 53 appearance in open play 9 with pens which isn’t good enough

He doesn’t offer much else and has been annonymous since the Peterborough match
Who in our squad is better?

That line alone shows you’ve got an axe to grind. It implies anyone who doesn’t share your opinion on Sharp prefers him over the club which is total bollocks. Of all the shit, wasted money and none performers we’ve endured over the last 14 months - Norwood, Fleck, Burke, Brewster, McBurnie, Robinson, Bryan, Ramsdale, Verrips, Zivkovic, Lowe, Mousset, Lundstram, Berge. Yet Billy Sharp irritates you so much. Bizarre.

Sharp pulled those 3 big backs all over the pitch which created space and opportunities for others.

Stop it - you’re getting far too technical for some of our posters now .

One in particular is still clinging on desperately to his pre season prediction that Brewster and McBurnie would be the answer to our prayers in this league and that it’s only a matter of time before the manager realises the error of his ways and plays both of them .

In this dreamlike scenario , both bag a hat trick and prove conclusively that they were worth every penny we payed for them .....

Sharp gets by on sheer hard work, experience, and the application of his trade as a striker. He was more prolific as a goal scorer in his youth, but he has turned provider in more ways than one as he has become older. That kind of game development does not happen overnight.
At his age, he is a model professional and still a great asset to the team. His maturity is finding a good balance between youth and experience, with his outstanding all round attitude to his job.

I will admit that I had doubts about him and Didzy, purely based on their age. I am delighted to be proved wrong. :)

2 goals in 12 from open play

That equates to 7 goals over a season

Is that good enough for a no9 in a promotion chasing team

He doesn’t irritate me I love billy sharp he is a blades legend

He just isn’t good enough as I think has been shown over the course of the season bar Peterborough and I find it baffling that he is still starting every week and not even been subbed

I’m not sure where I said that the majority are kicking off just because I dare say a bad word about Lord Bill

Who would you play

If I was building a team for the future mcburnie or Brewster

Freezing out both of those makes no sense two players who we could build around for the future

If not sell them and buy some players slav will play

He’s our best player in the role he’s being asked to play and you can never fault his effort.

But I’d have taken him off today. Worked hard but nothing really came off.

We don’t know that because nobody else gets a chance

Mousset did more in 15 minutes than Sharp has done in the last 4 matches

Fucking love Billy me sen , Bet he scores Tuesday
Go Billy Boy ❤️

I am sure that the current manager will move both McBurnie and Brewster on in January as neither of them are capable of offering him with what he requires. In the short term Billy Sharp and Lys Mousset, when available, are the only forward players that can offer him some hope, but neither of them are the long term solutions. The forward players that he has inherited are simply not good enough and it will take the next two transfer windows to shape a side that can challenge for promotion.

Billy created an excellent chance for MGW. It wasn't Billy's fault he missed an open net with his header.

He played Bogle in for a very good chance second half that just went wide.

He got in two good scoring positions. One hit the keeper, the other he was reaching for and flashed wide.

He also headed one off the line saving a certain goal.

The way you commented suggested he had a quiet ineffectual game.

He's not scoring as much as he'd like but he's not letting the side down.

Bert can remember seeing Popeye once, he ate a tin of spinach and played tennis with himself, smashing the ball then running to the other end and hitting it back.

That's what we need.

Also Raven On The Wing taking a corner and heading it in.

Anonymous yet again

If any other striker puts in his performance this season he’s hounded out the starting 11

Sick and tired of people cutting him slack he’s been poor for months bar Peterborough @ home

Bill is holding this team back basically playing with 10 men , bill is a finisher and poor at everything else

#FACTS FB
Oh dear, no idea what game you watched. Billy is not just a finisher, he runs the channels, puts in crosses better than any of the wing backs, holds up the ball and leads the team by example (two great defensive headers today). Ask any championship defenders who they worry about most in our side? The opposition today had him double marked.

BTW the vast majority of fans want Billy to play and so does Jokanovic.

Definitely need an optician, he wears 10 😉
I've been critical of Billy in the past when he did have moments where if he didn't score then he didn't contribute but I can't say this is the case this season.

He has 4 goals and 4 assists. 8 goal contributions in just 11 starts and 3 sub appearances. He's played 917 minutes overall so equivalent to 10 full matches plus 17 minutes. I don't think 8 goal contributions from that is bad at all, especially when the team has been finding it's feet.

And he doesn’t lead the line well he’s annonymous for large parts

He was great v Peterborough but poor since

Obviously on the wind-up, we all agree Sharp has his limitations but literally no-one shares your opinion.

Fantastic to see Moose and Didsy get on the scoresheet yesterday, both looking sharp and fit. I could see us starting with those two in the future, with Billy on the bench. Moose seemed to have a good rapport with Ndiaye too.

EDIT Might have got a little carried away there, Moose was actually a quite clumsy on the ball at times but the goal will have done his confidence a lot of good. Wouldn't start him ahead of Billy though.

It's the balance that is wrong, not Sharp. He's more of a Firmino these days - in this system. Drops into the ten position and gets involved in the interplay with MGW and Ndiaye rather than getting manhandled by six foot odd centre backs . The problem we have is that this allows the opposition to play a high line and squeeze the pitch as none of these lads make medial runs behind the backline to keep them honest and make sure they drop. Osborn and MGW or Ndiaye have to run beyond the backline to give the other two or three the space in the ten position(s), before they hopefully arrive late to finish the chances.Teams just crowd the half spaces in central areas and stop us creating chances that way as we continually try and play through the eye of a needle with three or four bodies there and none running behind. We don't have players making penetrating runs off the ball which is a major problem. It also takes any counter attacking threat from us - everything is slow and deliberate. Easy on the eye, but lacking in efficacy.
There was a period yesterday when we got the balance right: one touch and two touch football with the third man running beyond. Unfortunately we missed the chances and it fizzled out for the rest of the game until the subs.

Moose's introduction made it even more obvious what we are missing -he played on the shoulder and opened the spaces up.There was two games yesterday, the one pre Moose and the one post Moose. It was exactly the same at Bournemouth.
