Why is that team so mentally fragile
Is Billy a good captain ? If so why do we contrive to lose games so meekly and against such bang average opposition ?

Don't think there's a mentality or effort problem. We're just not taking the chances we create and don't seem to have much luck at the moment.

I think Egan needs to have a think about how he can lead from the back, he's the one steady piece of our defence and he needs to really take command.

Midfield doesn't have any leaders even though two of our most senior players play there, Norwood points a lot but we need someone snarling at players who go out of position, Fleck seems like he's too busy holding back the transition to Jimmy Fleck to do much organising.

We need a hard bastard.

Billy is a great ambassador for the club but a terrible choice as captain. When he's on the pitch he's fully-concentrated on his own game. He's on vocal when people don't pass to him and gets frustrated with himself and others too easily. Not the lads fault, he got made captain Blade.

I think Billy's a great leader and captain but he's a short striker, he's not got much to do with keeping them out at the other end.

Personally I'd always prefer a centre half as captain but either way, it needs others to take responsibility and leadership, not just look to one bloke to lead them out of the shite over and over again.

Maybe not enough different players standing up and showing some mettle and having a pair is more the issue

Strikers and goalkeepers are never the best of choice of captains due to their positions. I always think you need a leader in every department and Billy does well as the main man up front. However, the main spots to influence the rest of the team are centre defence and centre mid and our leadership in those areas isn't good enough.

Egan's a good defender but he's not leader of the pack at the back and it's unfair to expect him to step into that role. SJ should have brought that type of defender in instead of Davies and until he does we'll continue to ship sloppy goals. We also lack a leader in centre mid too, unless Guedioura can step into that role, then that's another position that needs sorting.

When you plug those two gaps, players around them that have been hit and miss, or below par, suddenly start looking a lot better, as the leaders make sure everyone puts in a shift.

Billy's a club legend but he's missed his fair share so far this season.

He avoids the same pelters other players get though.

The sad fact is we don’t have they type of player that makes a good captain. Someone who leads by example, motivates others but doesn’t accept slacking. Egan hardly ever speaks on the pitch and most of what Sharp says seems to be aimed at the ref.

Got to face it pal we come out of last season scarred the team and us takes some getting over.
The players who were the backbone of our success we know who they are are poor we can only get on with it and hope the worst doesn’t happen

We do lack a bit in terms of leaders.
At the back, there's nothing wrong with our Centre Backs, but they are more no.2 CB's and I

Yeah, I think our CB's are more no. 2 CB's.. we'd benefit from a more imposing, dominant main CB, who organises things.. also Rammers was very vocal, and not sure if Olsen is or not.

Billy’s a fantastic leader and a blades legend

He’s a top finisher and won’t ever lose that

But he isn’t good enough FACT

Mcburnie/Brewster might be good enough to be top forwards

What is a fact is we will never know if we don’t give them a run as a no9

But yet he keeps popping up time and time again to score goals.

Just cos he a Bkade shouldn’t automatically enrol him as captain

When it’s going tits up, and that’s happened a lot in the last 2 years, they look around and no one is the Morgs on there

Know we seem to be buying for the future, but we could do with an experienced head coming in as a leader, know his wages would have been high, but Cahill for example

Berge ?

Could he be that hard man we need ?

So you think McBurnie and Brewster would have got more? Why does Slav keep picking him?
I'm not criticising Billy he is in the team because he deserves to be
I'm just pointing out your comment that he keeps popping up with goals is wrong and irrelevant to the point of the thread about leaders in the team and whether he Is the right man to be captain given the teams mental weakness

I was sticking up for him getting compared to McBurnie and Brewster. I reyt want them to come good and step up but they won't. I obviously don't see them training but Slav does and he keeps picking Sharp over them. I'll get beind that because I personally don't think any of our strikers can lead and play like he does.

I don’t know that and you don’t know that the only way to find out is if they get a run of games

I think if they got a run of games yes they would score more as shown previously when we signed them
