I've been to football all around the world. There is something emotive & spine tingling about well organised & co-ordinated chanting/singing, either Ultra style or organised in another way.

Unorganised Organic Chanting, where one person starts & others nearby gradually join in, plays a big part in English fan culture.

But, if you want to know the real power of everyone knows what to sing, and when, and there's a cue, look no further than the organised & co-ordinated renditions of "You fill up my senses" (Magnet Edition) at The Lane.

There's room for both. The organised, as you note, is indeed often very powerful but I'm always a sucker for anything organic and the spontaneity of English humour can produce some gems on the terraces also.

Would like to see some Thomas Tallis style layers - GCB for 40 voices anyone?

I'm going to Millwall away in February. Chief reasons for wanting to go are;

1- I've never been
2- I should be OK to get a ticket
3- Millwall home matches don't usually get moved for TV making no 4 a decent gamble
4- I've already booked my flight so SKY TV fucking behave and don't alter the fixture day/time
5- My brother has promised me a pre match tour of independent boozers in Rotherhithe
6- I think I've reached the stage of life where going to the Den shouldn't involve having to face off the local Herberts.

If we are in the mix by then I might be on the scrounge for loyalty points.

Seen it mentioned they took 4000

They took 3,566 to Wigan
You should know what ever figure their fans say it’s always rounded up and it’s a bizarre phenomenon attached to Wednesdayites.

If SU had sold that number our fans would say “we took 3K to Wigan” with a few saying “we took 3 and half thousand”
Whereas for some weird reason almost every Wednesdayite will say “We took 4K to Wigan”

We got 27,900 and odd against Derby on Saturday.
A Blade would say “We had 27K” some might say “we had 28K”
Where as a Wednesday fans will say “we had 30K against Derby”.
They are such an insecure fan base with their role in life to try to convince others they are a big club.

Even my own parents say “Wednesday always get the big crowds”
I’m in my 50’s and when I told them that SWFC have never averaged over 30K in my life time.
They were shocked saying they had the impression Wednesday always had really big crowds.

think its the glass half full glass half empty syndrome with united and wednesday fans we always seem to fear the worst they expect the best

Given that the majority of Wednesday's support comes from South Barnsley, it's a little wonder that they choose to escape at any possible opportunity.

On yorkshire away days it says 4k pigs at wigan. We ‘apparantly’ took 1700 ish to boro. I dont think they took 4k to wigan either but it dunt really matter what matters is why we arent selling boro out when we have over 20k ST holders ? Thats my issue. Fuck wendys im more concerned with us

You shouldn't be concerned. SUFC = biggest home crowds in the league. That's all that matters as far as crowds are concerned. The pigs home crowds have been declining for donkeys years. They're very jealous of our home crowds.

1700 to Boro on a Tue night when the game is live on Sky is decent. The pigs would have taken nowhere near 3600 to Wigan had their game been live on Sky.

You don’t appear to have commented on the fact that we have the best average home attendance in the Championship either.

Yes, they do a free for all

And anybody that thinks our loyalty points system has not decreased our away attendances must be sniffing something

In 2006-07 I was at our two first away games in the Prem, at Spurs and Fulham.

Not as a loyalty points holder, I was on a corporate beano

Our support for both games was shyte, bearing in mind the games immediately followed our promotion to the Prem.

The reason......... the way our loyalty points system is administered, not the loyalty points system itself

You hit on the key point. It takes far too long for tickets to be sold. When you go away you have to sort out your life to go. A bit extreme maybe, but you have to sort out money, transport, work (if applicable), smooth it over with partner/family etc (if applicable). Probably a lot that I've forgotten. Our tickets are that slow out the door that it renders these things impossible for a lot of people. I know a lot of people that say "I probably won't get a ticket". The next time you ask it's "I'm working now " or "I've got something else on now" or "coaches are booked up and it's £112 on the train". Real problems with going to an SUFC away match these days. These problems can be ameliorated somewhat by going through the point brackets faster. For a lot of games in the Champ and below there's no need.

not sticking up for pig fans here but i think they would have taken 3500 to wigan even if it had been on sky and do think it helps their away support that they seem to have a more open system with ticketing

Reasons have been given in this thread.

Constantly posting about wendys away support seems to be a big concern of yours.

Wheres all our ‘fantastic away’ support gone now we not in prem ? THATS what im wondering. Now they actually need us again. Anyway im not going saturday cos i cant get a ticket. 🤣

Best attendances in the league, can't you count? Still there is the answer? Where's all the pigs gone? Averaging a lot less than United yet again. Massive indeed .
No 30,000 average in over 50 years for the tin pot truffle hunters from South Barnsley. 🤣😂🤣

I'm not having a go at anyone in particular but a lot of this is bollocks innit??? Fair fucking play to anyone who follows us home and away everywhere, absolute class, fair fucks to ye.

But not everyone can afford it and folks have different lives don't they, kids, jobs etc. Great if you go, fair enough if you can't, but a load of bitching about nowt

We (my old fart buddies and I) don't go to away games unless we can have a decent sup of good ale before and after the game. The days of club coaches with police delays outside the town to stop us supping, and coaches being escorted out of town afterward mean that we abandoned coach transport long ago. Even Shred's and The Railway coach trips were being closely monitored by the rozzers. Which leaves the train. We fancied Bournemouth for a trip, so before the tickets went on sale, we looked up train times. Cheapest return ticket was a bargain (apply irony here) £122.00! So that is why we're not gonna Bournemouth. We could all afford it, but cannot seriously justify it. Fuckin ridiculous rail prices.....

All this talk about loyalty points stopping ticket sales is complete bollocks.

Anyone that wanted a ticket could have got one.

Most unusually you could even pay on the day.

The truth is that everyone that really wanted to go to Boro went to Boro we just didn't have enough willing supporters to buy all the tickets, so will people just stop making excuses for that.

Also, I went but I thought our support was crap. The atmosphere in the away section was flat as a fart probably not helped by a similar level of activity on the pitch.

Snap. I could do the train for a mere £180 return for me and my missus.

Chuck in £400 for 3 nights in a hotel as I won't do long distance train journeys on a Sunday as I never know when engineering works will strike, add in a couple of match tickets and that becomes over £600 for 90 mins of football.

One of us could have a week in the sun for that.

It’s a 1 hour 50 min journey to Middlesbrough from Sheffield. Personally I like to get parked up an hour before kick off (if we aren’t having a drink like Tuesday) That means leaving Sheffield just before 5. Some of us have to finish work a little early and me and the Mrs, due to work had been up since 4.30am. Some travel much further than from Sheffield. It’s about how much effort you want to put in to watch your team and being an away regular means making plenty of sacrifices. I’m not knocking those who stay at home, far from it but to not sell out after being on a decent little run is disappointing. Our fans had there moments on Tuesday but I’ve seen them better and louder many times before. Again not knocking them, just my own observation

It's a great day out at Millwall if you don't buy into all the hype that you will be killed or maimed on your way in or out of the New Den.
