£75m for 4 useless lumps. Do we just write it off?

The 15 million pound man Burke , was worth every penny . why has the Miserable OP left him out ? . Berge could end up being worth more than the lot put together .

Berge, Brewster, Mcburnie, Mousset. Is it time to just throw in the towel, admit they're completely shite, hope that Stocksbridge Park Steels are in the market for some subs, and write the whole £75m off? The odd big money signing doesn't always work. But all 4 of ours are shite.
How do we move them on? Please discuss......
The squad needs to be used as the manager requires. Whether a player cost £10m or £10 is no longer relevant when selecting a squad for each match.
If in a transfer window there are some who are not needed then they can be sold or released.

The number of times 'so-called' Blades fans have written off Billy Sharp (admittedly over a very long period of time, during which he's been farmed out to other clubs) far surpasses the number of times these players (collectively) have been written off thus far, so there's still time for the nay-sayers to be proved wrong.

Anyone who's played football for both shite teams and good teams should have an inkling of what a difference it makes to their own performance (and morale of course). With the influx of youth, energy and class into the Blades squad I have to say that if these much-criticised players don't perform now then there ain't much hope for them in the future!

Hi Stegosaurus here,

Add Freeman to list, tot it up a bit. I suppose technically whatever we paid for Robinson we also paid for Burke since was a atraight swap.

Wilder spaffed some money away, didnt he?

Aree Mousset should go. Brewdog will improve. Berge good player will be sold in January if no injuries.Mcburnie I would sell him next summer.
Just my humble opinion.

because it wasn't anywhere near £15m - where did you get £15m from?

UTB

I think £15m is what West Brom once paid for him, which should be hilarious but is not that funny because they then managed to offload him onto us

I don't think he cost any actual money - we just swapped him for Callum Robinson (who cost us £7m, I think). So in a roundabout way he cost us whatever Callum Robinson is worth.

West Brom gave us Burke +£3m for Robinson. That deal valued Burke at £4m and Robinson at £7m and they definitely, definitely got the better end of it.

The news at the time was WBA paid us about £3m plus the swap with Robinson.

Values in other transfers was £13 from Leipzig to Forest & £15m from WBA to Leipzig.

People close to the deal (as much as they could) rated Burke around £5m after the swap had happened.

Whatever value, it's still what we seem a lot for a very average player - but that is where the PL is at and why many think the money we paid for Brewster/Berge/McB is wasted. The behemoth that the PL is, creates these inflated transfers and in the end causes misery to clubs outside the PL wanting to join the club - Derby being the latest and our S6 porcine neighbours also.

Sadly they won't be the last - lets hope we don't fall into the same downward spiral.

No, that'd be stupid. I could give my car away as there are nicer cars out there and I might've over paid. Still I think I'll keep it and make sure I get value for money when I buy the next one.

I'd like to see Berge and McBurnie in our new reinvigorated line-up, playing alongside confident players before I write them off.

Mousset, I doubt we'll ever see any consistency from him due to his fitness issues. BUT, he made up for his fee during the first half of the Prem season where it could be argued his goals contributed massively to our good run of form. Best to let his contract wind down.

Brewster's the only one I'm genuinely concerned for - £20 odd million on spent on unproven potential is not what we needed last year (see LCB, creative midfielder & Ivan Toney for what we did need) and it looks to have backfired. Unfortunately our poor start means we don't have room for passengers in the team and can't afford him a run of games without contributing to find any sort of form.
Toney was only potential then as well

Berge is still I think potentially very good player
Mousset is an injury waiting to happen sadly
McBurnie for me still has something to offer
Brewster - I still think he can do it.

Alas yes 75m for all of them and it did not have the impact expected. But then our midfield was no existent last season. I am willing to see what happens with them this year - if it is still nowt then agree they will probably move on.

Don't know if anyone else noticed on Saturday but Billy was walking off the pitch with brewster and mcburnie pointing and gesticulating with his hands as though he was going through some of the movements from the game with them, still think there's a striker in both of them I just think they are both short on confidence

I get all the criticism around Mousset and agree with some of it but we need to understand he has had personal issues and we all

have those but not necessarily under the glaring spotlight of professional football.

How many of us would be acting like he has done with £30k dropping in the bank each week to fund the bar bills, nights out and fast cars etc

More importantly, if you take away his goals from the first PL season we probably would have been a one hit wonder, therefore you could argue

that he 'earned the club a mere £100M+
I quite like Mousset ,but to say he earned the club £100 M + is not strickly true.
Any money earned went back to the players or on unwise transfers and in Wilders pay off.

Billy was doing it regularly with Brewster at different intervals of the game. It’s good leadership from billy and what you want to see from your experienced striker giving others the benefit of that experience. If he wants to do so after he hangs up his boots I’d definitely keep billy in house to do some coaching and not just because he’s mr sheffield United. I think what with his experience and junior coaching/academy work he does off his own bat he could probably be quite an asset.

Tbf watching young Tyler there's a lot of Billy in him ,hope we've put a cheap buy back in place

More to come from McBurnie and Berge. I worry whether Mousset will ever be able to complete 90 mins though, he's also had precious little football for the past 2 years. My instinct tells me he's finished at this level.

No idea what to do with Brewster, seen the odd bit of clever link up play but beyond that he's offered nothing. Not fast, not physical, can't beat a man, every shot is straight down the keeper's throat and always stood in the wrong place to be a 'fox in the box' type. I think the best thing all round would have been a loan til January to a bottom end Champ club but we are obviously too late for that now.

That said Billy Sharp's second spell at the club was very similar and look how he's turned out.

I hope he comes good and we do have a buy back and sell on clause. It was the right choice to let him go though he was getting squeezed at United billy, didzy, mousset, mcburnie, Burke, ndiaye and Brewster ahead of him with jebbison, lankshear, Osula and Hackford coming up behind. His development path was blocked here and he was in turn blocking the development path of others.

Blame Blackwell for sticking him on the wing and insisting he stays there for that
Yes he had two terrible managers during that spell which obviously contributed to his poor form.

Slav may be the right fit for Brewster. I'm yet to see it but there is hope.

so has darren moore 🤣🤣🤣

Mcburnie - fine with him, lots to offer and quicker than you realise will play other forwards in, should start to score when he gets his confidence back. However when Swansea come calling he'll be off.. ❤️ Affair in progress, that's the only negative.

Brewster, shoot at the corners pal, you get two goals at Hull, plenty of time to become epic, just does he want it??

Berge, absolute quality, probably doesn't fancy this division but won't get a move without standout performances.. Get on the pitch mate, earn it..

Mousett, when people were saying "if he stays fit we'll tear this league up" there was a fatal error in that comment, he's a treatment table warmer to rival Ashley Ward... Contract will run out and that'll be the end of him at united, nobody would buy him..

OLI Burke, I dont think oli Burke knows what he is, if only you could get him to cross like MGW Barcelona would be knocking.. There in lies the problem, no end product whatsoever..

I haven't given up on anybody really and as for mousse, lots of "mental health" comments from a few posters who may know more than me, so cutting him some slack seems to be the way to go.

All these players can be successful here, just get on the pitch and give it 100% it's not about price tags, that wasn't thier faults..
