£75m for 4 useless lumps. Do we just write it off?

Berge, Brewster, Mcburnie, Mousset. Is it time to just throw in the towel, admit they're completely shite, hope that Stocksbridge Park Steels are in the market for some subs, and write the whole £75m off? The odd big money signing doesn't always work. But all 4 of ours are shite.
How do we move them on? Please discuss......

I've not given up on Berge yet.

Berge played better last time he was on the pitch and I'd like to see more before blasting him.
Brewster might have place to show himself as we have got some new legs and strat to provide him better balls.
I don't rely on McBurnie much so far plus he haven't got much play time from Slav anyways and Mousset has been injured (i think?).

If these guys are/play bad or don't play at all, who's going to buy them from us?

I'd like to see Berge and McBurnie in our new reinvigorated line-up, playing alongside confident players before I write them off.

Mousset, I doubt we'll ever see any consistency from him due to his fitness issues. BUT, he made up for his fee during the first half of the Prem season where it could be argued his goals contributed massively to our good run of form. Best to let his contract wind down.

Brewster's the only one I'm genuinely concerned for - £20 odd million on spent on unproven potential is not what we needed last year (see LCB, creative midfielder & Ivan Toney for what we did need) and it looks to have backfired. Unfortunately our poor start means we don't have room for passengers in the team and can't afford him a run of games without contributing to find any sort of form.

So that's three i've not given up on, just Moose to sort out, you never know he might just make the grade - one day!

I've not given up on any of them. That said Brewster is the one who is causing me the most concern. I think that money could easily be a right off if we don't start seeing some improvement soon.

The rest still have something to give, even Moose if he ever gets fit, though he'd have to play like a world beater til the end of the season for us to even think about renewing his contract. Think it will be time to say out goodbyes to our favourite ferrari racing frog in the summer (he reminds of toad in Wind in the Willows who is always driving madly and crashing his car).

McBurnie and Mousset were good in their 1st season. Last season they and Brewster were expected to score playing in front of one of the PL's worst ever midfields. Judge them when/if they've had a bit of decent service with the current midfield.
What a stupidly sensible answer that is. Wheres the ignore button?

I'm still in the camp that we got our money's worth out of Mousset in his first season anyway. Definitely frustrating that he's shown nowt since but he paid his transfer fee back for me.

Lets see how the others get on now Slav-ball is up and running. Signs from Berge and McBurnie that they'll prosper.

WUM post but it's a quiet day so I'll bite.

'All 4 of ours are shite' misses out Ramsdale who was dearer than Mouse and possibly McBurnie, depending on which figures you believe.
-Ramsdale was sold for a profit
-Mouse & McB were instrumental in keeping us up and generating the revenue to buy the first two.
-Too early to write off a young Scandinavian who is a regular selection for his country
-Not looking great for Brewster and it was clear we had our leg lifted on the price, but again, he is a regular for England U21s.

Good post though, other than the above.

U21 stint might improve him!

I get all the criticism around Mousset and agree with some of it but we need to understand he has had personal issues and we all

have those but not necessarily under the glaring spotlight of professional football.

How many of us would be acting like he has done with £30k dropping in the bank each week to fund the bar bills, nights out and fast cars etc

More importantly, if you take away his goals from the first PL season we probably would have been a one hit wonder, therefore you could argue

that he 'earned the club a mere £100M+

£10m for six goals (seven with the Zouma OG which he basically made happen) and four assists in the Premier League, all of which were important, makes Mousset worth it in my opinion. We got a tune out of him when it mattered most. Now he's just a frustrating figure to have around.

I have always thought this: essentially we got value for money in the first season. Now of course he is a sunk cost as we won’t get a fee and he has contributed nothing for an age but it was still a good deal IMHO.

If we were marking them out of 10, I don't think any of them would get more than 6 based on a lack of consistent output.

Berge at least had nothing to do with last season's shambles and should be like having a new signing this season but needs to go for it because he looks like he's not got out of 3rd gear yet.

Ramsdale to be fair is now first choice at one of the biggest clubs in the country, so has gone on to better things than we can provide him with potential for a place in the next England squad if he keeps his place and we lost no money in the process.

The frustration with McBurnie and Mousset is that they are capable of scoring goals and troubling defences, certainly at Championship level, they just don't do it often enough. This team is in the process of a much needed revamp and these two need to move with that. If they do, they could tear this league to bits if they're motivated and the fresh midfield keeps turning up.

Make or break for Brewster otherwise it'll be a long road back to the top for him. He desperately needs a ball to deflect in off his backside to get him some confidence but at the moment, despite the money spent on him, he's not delivered anything. Compare that to Ndiaye and MGW who were at it from the off and have been stand out performers since they came into the team.

We've spent all this money yet Billy Sharp, signed by Nigel Adkins, is still our best, most consistent performer up front.

I still think mcburnie has a part to play, especially at this moment in time because he is very important when were defending corners and long throws,

We could just ignore them and pretend they didn't exist, a bit like this thread tbh.

I wouldn't hold your breath. Mousset is contracted to the end of this season, McBurnie to June 2023, Berge to June 2024 and Brewster until 2025. The earliest any of them will leave is January and that would require them to be in form and attracting bids sufficient for us to want to sell. The board has made it clear that Berge won't leave on the cheap so I'd imagine the same applies to the rest.

If... and it's a big if, he could stop pulling up injured, he's one of the best strikers in this division. Not sure most teams could handle him if he re-found that form he had up to Xmas in his first PL season for us.

Without him we'd have been playing with 10 men?

Or perhaps we could have spent the money on somebody who could have contributed more than 2 months effort once every 3 years?

Moose didn't cost £10m I don't think. A fair whack less with a lot of add ons. 100% worth it.

Berge? Who knows. There's talent but he's far too keen to hide in possession. I think he'll go abroad in the summer for less than we paid

McBurnie will play out his contract and leave on a free in June 23 (or for a small fee beforehand).

Brewster could maybe end up as a hard working wide player, but he's not shown any of the instincts of a centre forward. He's not great at football 🤷‍♂️

The shit threads posted on here get better by the day, you would think we have a load of fifth column Wendyites sat here for years waiting to come out of the woodwork. That or we have the shittest fan base ever.

Im in the Moose paid for himself with that first season camp. Not expecting anything out of him now, but who knows; I wouldn’t completely rule out a months purple patch at some point, where he knocks a few in and looks amazing. We all know the talents there and its amazing what a need for a new contract/club will do for a players motivation.

I've been guilty of slagging them all to the moon and back but hopefully Slav can get them firing/fit/contributing.
