Think we were linked a couple of years back. Winger. Oldham.

Maybe things are looking up when a player can't pass our medical,I thought our club just ignored that players that we signed had long histories of being injury prone.

On the OS now. Hope the rumour about the medical isn't true. 3 signings in two days. Porter Slew & Flynn. Lets get a solid defender in next.

Porters record for Oldham wasn't too bad in L1

Did well for Oldham as well I remember. Decent goal scorer at this level and not bad in the air.

Quite a shrewd signing I think. Seen him play before.

Is this the bloke you've to double check your settings before googling?

Officially signed - http://www.sufc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10418~2393657,00.html?

Danny Wilson has added to his striking options ahead of the new season with the signing of striker Chris Porter on an initial two-year contract.

Porter, 27, was a free agent after being released by Derby County at the end of last season, with his last goals coming against the Blades at Bramall Lane for the Rams second string, as they clinched the totesport.com league title in May.

The Wigan-born marksman also started for County in their 1-0 victory against United in the Championship in February.

Boss Wilson commented: "It is difficult trying to find strikers who will score goals at this level and if you look at Chris's career, possibly his most productive time was when he was at Oldham in this division where he scored a lot of goals. We know what he is about and he is very hungry after overcoming some injury problems.

Also, potentially his debut will be against his former club Oldham with whom he scored 22 goals in a seasons a few years ago. Lets hope that former striker curse works for us for once!

We see how he does i think the fans of oldham Athletic will give him abuse when he returns back to Boundary Park who last night were thinking off signing him back.

The fans have not forgive him the way he used the club and went to mother well when he told the club he was staying.

How long can he stay fully fit only gods knows.

He has undergone a tough surgery to his hip ,quite an adaption to play to the same standard with one leg shorter than the other.
The change of scenery might be just what he needs to get his career back on track, good luck to another new Blade!

His injury record in the last few years worries me!

It's a concern, but its the gamble you take to sign an undoubtedly talented player for no transfer fee and reasonable wages.

If he stays fit for the season he'll score 25 goals and we'll gain automatic promotion.

If he has a good preseason training he should be more than fit. Hopefully we'll hear about Duke sometime soon and then a CB with high earners going.

Pleased with that one if he can maintain any serious level of fitness.

As long as we haven't got another Ryan France on our hands here and/or is contract reflects the risk we are taking regards his injury record, then I suppose that should be ok.

2 goal in 20 appearances for Derby is a bit crap, but his record in lge 1 looks good.

DCFC fan here. Shame it never worked out for Porter with the Rams. He started with a real bang, had a great scoring record the first season he was with us, but what appeared at first to be an innocuous hip injury plagued him and he never regained that.

Firstly, he's a brilliant finisher in the 18 yard box- headers, scruffy tap-ins, one-on-ones he can bury. But he's not massive or fast so struggles if played up front on his own. Bit of an old school, Gary Lineker esque striker i'd say, needs someone else to feed off, so hard to fit in to any formation other than a 4-4-2 (we also changed to a 4-2-3-1, which didn't suit him at all).

Seems like a decent bloke and if his injuries are behind him and you play 4-4-2, he'll be a good signing. As others have said, he thrived at Oldham

good luck for the season ahead.
