Memories of Luton.

My first memories of Luton Town playing the Blades was in about 1955/6. Ron Baynam the England goalkeeper played. The centre forward was a bloke called Turner if my old memory. I think he played for England as well. I think im right in thinking Luton won 3 0???

Mine is 2 0 up at home only to lose 3 2. The Futcher brothers played for them. 78ish.

It was the 50th anniversary of the first match broadcasted by the BBC, Arsenal V United 1927

Pleat lived near Luton , we made a delivery to him there when he was pig manager .We worked for Irwin Mitchell ,regularly going to pigs houses ,Trevor Francis in Virginia Water ,Dalian Atkinson in Barton under Needwood were the stand out ones. Trevor Francis was an absolute gent ,lovely bloke ,Atkinson was weird and a bit of a nob ,thought he was a gangster ,but Pleat was something else. The most arrogant bastard you could imagine , really talked down to you ,kerb crawling bastard.
All 3 houses were amazing.

David Pleat. Can imagine him shooting his bolt, then putting on his suit and doing a jig around the bedroom.

That was Boxing Day 1990, on their plastic pitch. No away fans allowed in Kenilworth Road, but I remember hearing the greasy chip butty song drifting from all four stands during the second half.

I was in the press box. 11am ko I remember, so it was a stupid o'clock start in a pea souper fog. Couldn't stop myself from leaping up and cheering when Deano scored, much to the annoyance of the assembled hacks around me. Plenty of other Blades around the ground did the same. The food at half time and full time was the best I sampled anywhere. Vinnie Jones and someone else, might have been Glynn Hodges, came in and started tucking in to the chicken wings and gougeons.
