I know all the focus has been on our woeful display last night, but I thought it was worth mentioning West Brom's IMO overly aggressive approach. Body checking, off the ball incidents, potential ankle breakers and a manager on the touchline ready to Hulk out at any moment. No wonder the ref let them get away with everything, he was intimidated by them.

A stronger team than us wouldn't have put up with half of their antics either. Swansea defenders tried a bit of it with a degree of success and I worry every side we face now will be told to rough us up as we are a soft touch. We are screaming out for at least one aggressor in the side for this level if we want to avoid being bullied all the way down to League 1. I know Baldock tries but really he's just like a yapping small dog that's all bark and no bite. Another reason we miss JOC so badly.

PS - The Baggies may well get promoted playing this way, but they will come straight back down with a bump as they will be giving free kicks away every two seconds in the Prem.

I bet the baggies fans would laugh their bollocks of if they read this ....
Remember the battle of Bramall lane
Oh the irony
They did to us what Brentford did to Arsenal, but without the style or skill and none of the subtleties, no attempt to hide anything from the towel to the tackles and behaviour of the manager, its like Wimbledon team of old, with a better fitness regime and a bucket of steroids

Considering the tactics we employed under Bassett, Warnock, and Blackwell at times, it's easy to be a raving hypocrite.

I did, however, wonder if Ismael wouldn't be so industrial at WB with the better standard of squad.

Watching them last night was certainly a throwback.

Completely agree though, if they get promoted, next season will be interesting in the Prem seeing them adopt those tactics.

If the referees are indeed letting things go this season and the other team are dishing it out then the obvious thing to do is...

Do the same or adopt the Bournemouth and Norwich approach, not just feigning injury but constantly putting the ref under pressure, problem is with the current crop we lack the ability to do either

The most overrated "battle" of all time. Santos's revenge and Suffo's headbutt; apart from that nowt much.

It was like playing a Warnock team and the ref allowed it to carry on that way.

I agree in that it may get them up. But then they might then adapt a little to suit the PL.
This is the Championship and you do get away with this more. But in the PL they'd be picking up bookings and reds most weeks.

Still they've got a system that works at the minute and they can worry about that if they get back up.

It is entirely possible that the standard of football in the Championship is now conducive to this prehistoric method actually reaping significant rewards.

Good luck to em I say.

But it’s not progressive in any way shape or form so my view is Slav, continue with keep ball, pass it out through the back and up the pitch.

To be honest, i thought they played the game the right way. Ruffle a few feathers and rough up our softer lads.... because they know they'll get away with it.

This is the Championship, not the Prem. Contact is allowed.

Yeah thats all good, but lets smash into a few teams and give them something else to worry about.

For me from the kick off last night it seemed they targeted Billy, Didz and Berge, nowt like Battle of the lane, some chopping, hacking and good owd nudges in the back, a lot of which the officials ignored or missed.
Baggies fully deserved there win, could have been more.
No sour grapes, we had no tactics, system or formation, and the team looked bewildered and lost.

I think the Burnley goal where the lad obviously shoved Maupay out of the, has been shown in a few training sessions around the leagues, every long throw Bartley simply pushed Berge back 5 yards like a tackle dummy, no one came up with any kind of plan to directly stop that or indirectly by someone standing on the goal line/ front post common practice for defending a corner

I’m not denying we got bullied last night. That much was obvious.

But let me tell you something I know as fact.

The very best way to deal with these situations is to pass the ball around the pitch and have them chasing shadows. It works almost every time. You have to be good at it (we weren’t), you have to be able to pass around the press (we didn’t) and you must offer something going forwards to give em something to think about (we didn’t).

After 60 or so mins they get knackered or pissed off.

I believe Slav has us on the right pathway but there may be some turbulence on route to the promised land 😀.

That would be lovely to watch and we've seen some fabulous football over the years, with teams not getting close to us.

But there is also an art to seeing a perfectly timed tackle go in and sending a player up in the air as the crowd wince.... only for a full 22 man melee to ensue and have it capped off with a stern talking to by the ref with no option but to have a hotly contested bounce ball as play was dramatically brought to a stop.

Agreed.

But this is 2021 and killer football has been replaced by this non contact crap dished up most weeks. Don’t blame the players. It’s the rules.

WBA did a number on us. No denying that and our soft underbelly needs sorting out in this physically ruthless division.

Anyone notice the pitch and how the ball held up? It’s like Ishmael is the illegitimate son of Bassett.
