Back to Linighan I seem to recall the Kop singing his name when he returned later in his career, may have been with Palace. Blades favourite without ever playing for us! Arsenal also relegated Wednesday back in 2000 although they were down anyway.

He came on as a sub and his name was ringing round the ground as he ran on.

Oh Andy Andy, Andy Andy Andy Linighan.

The Palace fans must have been wondering what the hell was going on 🤣

It’s very telling that non of the local journalists are saying that Ramsdale ‘gutted’.

Sounds to me like arsenal were trying g to pick the bones of our carcass while we are still crawling round looking for rehydration.
Shame that the sycophant journos won't be able to slap them on the back for thei excellent recruitment

I also remember Wilder been asked in a Rotherham programme interview "who is your favourite other player?" To which he replied Andy Linighan 🤣

It seems strange that they need one.
Saka
Smith-Rowe
Martinelli
Balogun
Bellerin
Chambers
White
Holding
Mainland-Niles
Willock (although looks like going to newcastle)
Nketia
Nelson

that’s 12 homegrown players, how many do they need?

I guess the thinking is that if you can get a home grown keeper they're likely to play every game. Not many of those others are. White, Saka, either Martinelli or Smith-Rowe.

Agreed. We could have used the money to buy a high quality keeper. Oh.
High quality is debatable, he’s a good keeper but I’m sure he could be replaced fairly adequately. I’m no football scout so don’t have the answer as to who could replace him, maybe it’s why we held out for top money because we had no suitable replacement lined up. This deal would have made sense IF the funds were used to bolster the main problem (midfield).

This is why I don't do Twitter. My blood pressure is high enough without all the spats I'd get into with silly nobs like this.

I don't know the ins and outs of the offer. However, if it was circa £25m we should have accepted.
Ramsdale is an OK goalkeeper, but I think we could replace him for a lot less and use the additional to vastly improve the squad.
I've said it a few times, but Arsenal probably represents the peak of where Ramsdales abilities could ever take him so it's a huge opportunity lost if it doesn't go through.

For once, I'd have probably taken a slight hit on the valuation for the greater good of all parties.

a) What replacement keeper did you have in mind, and how much would he cost?
b) If he is worse than Ramsdale, how many points do you think he would cost us over the course of the season?
c) Given that mediocre players like Carl Cort were going for £7m over 20 years ago, which players did you have in mind which would "vastly improve the squad" that are affordable for £25m minus your answer to question a, and would said improvement counteract the lost points you've calculated in question b?

This sort of post is unbelievable. Just because we've got a history of selling players for cents on the dollar doesn't mean that other clubs are

I don't think it was £25m. Sounds like we want £24m rising to £30m but Arsenal aren't willing to go past £20m. We'll see how desperate they are in a couple of weeks I guess

Arsenal have apparently called off their pursuit of Aaron Ramsdale, with the Gunners pulling out of the transfer late last night.

Reports from The Athletic claimed that Ramsdale’s move to North London was on the verge of breaking down. After that, multiple media outlets confirmed the news, with Arsenal said to be unwilling to pay United’s £35m asking-price.

Whether the Gunners resurrect their interest in Ramsdale, remains to be seen. But according to Talksport’s Alex Crook, the goalkeeper did want the move to Arsenal, albeit being the only move he was interested in.

Taking to Twitter, Crook confirmed that the Blades number one had other offers on the table. However, he didn’t want to ‘jump ship’ if it wasn’t for one of the very biggest clubs.

Yes capt you are a c**k

Rammers needs to be playing for a Premiership side if he has ambitions of playing in the World Cup 2022. He has one foot in the door already and seems well liked by Southgate. Got to be a dream of all young players and that chance doesn’t come around very often. GLTTL if he leaves us.

See the arsenal fans responding to James shield tonight. Not a happy bunch think we will accept less than our price and not interested in berge

Now that Arsenal have pulled out of the deal, I fully expect Ramsdale to be paraded around the Emirates in the next few days with the Blades getting a couple of million less than they've just turned down today. It's what's known as the Blades way

A fine point well made, Sir. Bravo, old chap. What an intelligent species we humans are.

Just had a quick look at your posting history to see if you're normally this weird with people. Turns out, yes. You are. All you've done for a year is post in defence of Ramsdale. If you like the bloke and his family so much, why on earth would you insult me for suggesting we should accept the offer for him?
It would make him, and them, rich beyond their wildest dreams. He'd be moving to one of the biggest clubs in the country. Have the chance to play at the highest level and perhaps a shot at fulfilling England ambitions (though I doubt it myself). By all accounts, he allegedly is gutted it isn't happening... so what's your craic?

No that’s called Kevin McCabe’s way. That’s exactly what happened when Maguire went to Hull. The article on Hull’s official website even stated as much.

All accounts???...... maybe you could give us a few examples......i.e. more than one.

Agreed, valuation was apparenty met,Wasn’t signed though. Personal terms was the reason. Didnt wanna be 2nd choice. A classic case of agreed but not signed. Meaning Arsenal,Blades or Ramsdale can pull out. Nobody wanted him to leave, he didn’t wanna go. Case closed on that one then.
Dont accept Rammers wernt in the loop when Arsenal came a knocking and to say everything was in place until Rammers said he wasnt happy with being 2nd choice.
All that would have been sorted first as there was no point in doing a deal if Rammers didnt accept being on the bench to push Arsenals 1st choice.
Just totally illogical to push on with negotiations when Rammers wasnt accepting a bench roll .
It's not really in the know ! I my opinion.!!!
