Keith has three golden boots you know and for that reason he considers himself to be a world authority on strikers and their ability, especially if they play for Sufc.

As wrong as he is, I can’t criticise him. I saw him play. It’s as simple as that. Like Deano, he was a talisman. He played a huge part in our recovery. For those who aren’t old enough, watching Edwards in the lower leagues was like watching Sharp in L1 under Wilder, you just knew he was far too good for that league. Never took pens, often took corners but was still top scorer in the division. Good free kicks too. He’s a genuine legend, a shining light after some pretty shite times. He’s one of a few players and managers who’ve earned the right to talk bollocks.

Well said , and the reality is that , as with the vast majority of commentators he does talk bollocks from time to time he can also be very knowledgeable and perceptive .

I well remember his pre match comments in our first match under Adkins at Gillingham when his co-commentator was gushing with enthusiasm about our prospects for the season and of winning the match .

Keith said that he was far from convinced , having serious doubts about our defence and that he could see us struggling against teams like Gillingham . We all know what happened next .

As for his occasional replacements in the role , David Holdsworth and Kevin Gage the least said the better , the former being an instant cure for insomnia and the latter , well .......

Keith was my first Blades hero but some of his radio ramblings are like his drunken golf club bar garblings

It’s ok for UK based fans, but as I live in a time zone 7 hours ahead of you, I really enjoyed the value for money on a 45 quid a season subscription to BBC radio Sheffield. Home or away, I could always listen to Edwards at 2am onwards on a Sunday morning, even if I nodded off at his half time chatter. 👍
Edwards has more than earned the right from his playing days at the lane. Big up for Mogadon man. 😊

It's almost as if the producer of the show has said, say something a bit controversial and create a talking point for fans to debate. As an opinionated fxcker, it'll hardly be a problem for him

As a kid of the 80’s, I don’t have the same reverence for Edwards as I never got to see him play.

His co-comms tend to be an under-researched verbal diarrhea of negativity, cliches and out of date tropes. Frustrating but no worse than most of the ex pros do on national radio/tv.

Given how many people pull a wage to be bad at it, it’d seem to be harder than it looks

I remember when Edwards used to write for the programme in the warnock era and slagged his tactics off , the programme column got scrapped.

Clearly old Warnocks ego couldn't manage to accommodate any criticism coming his way. The man's ego knew no bounds (probably still doesn't). Who can forget the Warnock show that was our season back in the PL in 2006-07 where it was all about him and not the club.

Each to their own, but I really did dislike the man (and yes I acknowledge that he did have a lot of good days with us as manager).

I can remember the late 90s when we was going through one our spells where we churn through managers and Keith Edwards appearing on Look North declaring himself as the only man who could sort United out.

I can also remember an away trip to Leyton Orient in the 11/12 season where Steve Simonsen dropped a clanger and walking from the pub to the tube station a couple of hours after the match and bumped in to Keith Edwards after the match and he delivered a critique of Simonsen using some curt, barrack room language

Seriously I thought you all were kidding with what Edwards were saying…had a listen last night, my god what the hell was he on about, what utterly uninformed drivel, time to get someone in who knows what they’re on about, someone younger and understands the modern game, his ramblings about the only goal scorer and Berge were just wrong.

Rob Staton is back on football heaven which should improve things

Poor mike never stood a chance
Is that Mike from Leicester , has he gone now ? , i don't think Chris Wilder liked him when he interviewed him . I didnt like him at first but he grew on me after time , hope hes still around .

In what way is Sharp our only proven goalscorer?
We have another 3 strikers who got double figures the last time they were at this level. I don't think any club in the league has a batch of strikers with as good a record at this level.
This. Keith Edwards, legend as he was on the pitch, is wrong here. It wasn't the strikers last season, it was the ineptitude of the midfield or wing backs to create anything for them. I'm confident that, if Slav gets the rest of the team right, the strikers will fire us to promotion. Especially if he gets Moose and/or Brewster firing in addition to the proven records of McBurnie, Sharp and McGoldrick.

McCarthy was the only person in the local media prepared to ask Wilder a difficult question.
As any good journalist should. Stop allowing them to talk in riddles and clichés and we'd all benefit. Most football clubs would happily cut off access to them if they got too difficult nowadays I think though.

Not a lot wrong with Keith Edwards summarising on Radio Sheffield, there's a lot worse. Kevin Gage was ok when he stepped in a few times - I guess some of you haven't listened to piggy Pearson in days gone by - now that is crap! I doubt RS pay very much either and considering KE is not Sheffield born, he's still "one of our own" in different ways.

McCarthy was a shock jock nob end who just aired his own view talking over callers all the time. Worst one in years in my opinion and hes all Leicester. Staton is much better informed and knows some of the history of the area ,McCarthy didnt even seem to research that.

It was both. The midfield and wing backs were poor, but so were all of the strikers bar McGoldrick, who managed 8 goals despite this ineptitude.

Very much agree….Edwards is fine.

Think people need to understand the nature of the job. There’s different methods,
1: You could pretty much sit on the fence, be safe and non controversial. This is boring but rarely upsets anyone. The BBC commentator generally take this stance.
2: You could be like John Pearson being extremely biased lavishing exagerrated praise on your club. Most fans are going to love this but it’s hardly authentic.
3: You could be opinionated and honest. Giving praise when it suits but also negatively criticising the club or players when it suits.
Giving strong opinions will sometimes by controversial rubbing up some fans the wrong way. It’s creates further discussion and invites criticism for airing your views.

Personally regards the 3 styles I prefer option 3….I like that he’s a self declared Blade but isn’t afraid to criticise the club, manager, tactics or players.
I don’t always agree with Edwards…sometimes he talks shit but he’s brave enough to give an opinion and tries to back it up, so I find him interesting.

Agree about your comments on John Pearson…talk about deluded….he did offer comic value tho….but I don’t believe that was his intention.
Any challenges in the penalty area and he‘d always be screaming “nailed on penalty“, “the ref must be blind“, ”why are refs always against this club” etc.

That's why I don't have sound on when watching footy on telly ... I don't need anybody telling me what I can see with my own eyes ... fuck stats etc im just not interested .... sack em all ... especially Lineker ...

The Wilder love-in has resurfaced in the last week following the Hooligans book launch so not surprised to hear a couple of digs......from the clips I have seen on social media I found the singing of "one of our own" and that flag by one of the Facebook groups hanging from the ceiling totally cringeworthy....

Does kind of give him an insight into it though, doesn’t it? Especially when you blokes who’ve never played higher than Powerleague slagging off professional players …

I don't think either covered themselves in glory, don't get me wrong. But I never really felt the issue was that we were missing significant amounts of chances, we just weren't getting anywhere close to threatening or creating a chance in the main which I'd put with midfield and wing backs rather than strikers.
