I have always had a lot of respect for McCabe, but looking at some of his recent decisions, I fear that he might not be the right man to appoint the new manager.

In recent years, he has:

1) Sanctioned player sales that arguably contributed to getting us relegated from both the Premier League and the Championship
2) Got rid of Warnock immediately after the Wigan game
3) Appointed Robson
4) Sacked Blackwell two league games into the season (one of which we performed well in) after he has spent all summer planning for the campaign ahead
5) Appointed Speed as the “man for the job”, then let Speed go
6) Appointed Adams as the “right man for the job” then let Adams go.

This leads me to believe that McCabe should not personally make the decision on who the next manager is. I would be more confident if he did not have the final say and the decision was left to a majority vote by the board.

Would that be the PLC board or the football club board? The same in Scott and Simon's case anyway. The carpet seller? The property developers? The finance director? Our semi-consultant almost ex-chief executive?

I would hazard a conjecture that a majority vote by this lot would not stand a much better chance of hitting the treble top than one of Mr McCabe's wildest throws.

While I don't disagree with the general theme of the post, I'd make a couple of points:

1) Sanctioned player sales that arguably contributed to getting us relegated from the both the Premier League Championship
- That said, while I can't remember any sales that got us relegated from the Prem, I think sanctioning some of the strange purchases over the years and in that particular season has been to our detriment. The purchase of James Beattie was ill thought IMO.

2) Got rid of Warnock immediately after the Wigan game
- Agree here. Although, in the emotion of the moment, I think I wanted fresh ideas too. Warnock did make some huge mistakes towards the end of that season.

3) Appointed Robson
- No arguments on this one of course.

4) Sacked Blackwell two league games into the season (one of which we performed well in) after he has spent all summer planning for the campaign ahead
I'd change this to "appointed Kevin Blackwell.

5) Appointed Speed as the “man for the job”, then let Speed go
Can't see this as any error from McCabe.

6) Appointed Adams as the “right man for the job” then let Adams go.
Half agree on this one. I did think Adams would keep us up and that would be the best reason for getting him in rather than long term planning.

Everybody makes mistakes.

1, Selling players is part of being a smaller club you need to survive and although we hate to see top / young talent leave sometimes you can't afford to turn offers down
2, A lot of blades would say this was the right decision fresh start and all that.
3, Although robson was the wrong choice McCabe can't have known that he took west brom up and has been there done it on the playing side, he just wasn't the right man for us.
4, Always thought this was a strange one i wanted blackwell out but would have done it back in May. McCabe obviously panicked and thought get rid while there is still time.
5, Appointed from within like some clubs do not McCabes fault speed wanted to leave no point forcing someone to stay.
6, Brought in a blade in a like warnock, probably thought he'd have a more positive affect unfortunately he was wrong, i think getting rid of MA is the right decision and by the looks McCabe is taking time to appoint the new man.

There were many many many people questioning that decision the day it was made. McCabe can have known Robson wasn't the right man for us becuase of how terrible a manager the entire football world knew him to be. It's his biggest mistake out of the lot as well.

In McCabe's defence. He hired the likes of the Pieman to help him make the right footballing decision. Robson was hired on the recommendation of the Pieman who had a football background and McCabe relied on his advice.

For me 3 & 4 are the only ones which at the time I couldn't understand.

Following Finance's post I would add 7) appointing and listening to Pieman

Totally agree. Looks like McCabe will be making this decision mostly on his own.

Perhaps you should do this in a more objective way then come back with your conclusions.

between 3 & 4 there was also, appointed blackwell, persuaded blackwell to stay

Blackwell came within an inch of getting us back into the Premier League. I don't necessarily think his appointment was a bad one, and still can't understand the real hatred he sparked on the kop. He certainly did much better than Robson, Speed, and Adams.
