New training building

If helping out our lower league neighbours becomes a thing, perhaps we could let the Pigs use our training centre too? It'd help Darren Moore out a bit, save him having to arrive two hours in the morning just to inflate theirs.

Just two hours a day and 11 bibs can help Dejphon get them on their way. Do something amazing today x
No they can have shirecliffe at a ludicrous rate. I’d love Chansiri failing to pay and united sending in the bailiffs.

We should build a housing estate with a pub and some nightclubs for the players, so they can walk home instead of binning their supercars.

Put a chippy on it for Moose.

It is mystifying with so much money coming in and investment going on players the last 12 months, that this building has not been sorted.

Especially if its constructed off site and shipped in.

I cannot think of any reason why (covid may be mentioned but contractors/builders have carried on working) this has not been sorted?

As others have said Jokanovic is going to be in with a shock as he gets changed in a crumbling working mans club.

Surprised no journalist has asked Bettis why has there been a hold up when the club indicated Jan 2021 it would be up and running. Nearly 11 months later and nothing has happened after the announcement.

Nah can’t have a chippy far too controversial would cause big fall outs. Can’t see us signing foreign players when flecky is hanging round outside their houses extolling the virtues of a deep fried mars bar. Slav stalking the streets enforcing curfew.

I have no problem with the Club coming out and saying due to losses sustained during the pandemic the training facilities upgrade has been put on hold. Providing a revised timetable would be informative or a statement that the decision has been taken to focus finances on a new training facility at Norton with expected timescale for completion.

Yesterdays fluffy sound bite exercise by Bettis provided little in the way of new information other than we're hopeful of getting two Spanish coaches in. Generic statements about sustainability say little about the financial direction the Club is going in. The loss of the final year of the USG sponsorship appears to have been glossed over as an example. As for journalists asking direct questions well good look with that. They are more fearful of upsetting their limited contacts than good old fashioned investigative journalism.

I think the plans for the new building at Shirecliffe have been shelved.

You would think it would be quite straight forward. In the Bettis interview, did he mention SCC delaying work due to COVID? I think they were destroying the buildings.

I disagree. Bettis said the Norton site wouldn't be done for a few years and the current building isn't the best. Hope SJ is aware of it, cause he'll be in for a shock first day of training.
'Isn't the best' is the nicest way of coining it, but 'Not fit for Purpose' would honestly be more apt.

I know we have a medium/long term vision regarding facilities but we desperately do need a short term solution if we are continue with this 'Global reach' as Bettis states.

Getting players in of elite caliber require elite facilities, and even if our wage budget could accommodate these type of players, having broken down/deteriorating training facilities would still be a detracting factor in their decision to join us.

Shirecliffe was always a bizarre choice. Pig country and a shit hole.
I’ve always thought that it must be a bit of an eye opener for players coming in, rocking up there in their flash cars.

Maybe the Norton development is moving quicker than expected, so the club shelved the improvements for Shirecliffe?

For years I thought the site between Woodhouse and Aston Fence would be perfect for a new training ground. It has a Home Decor warehouse on it now though.

Something for the WAGs to do while they are waiting?

Could well be this. In the 12-18 months since Shirecliffe was meant to start, maybe the progress at Norton has pretty much continued as expected (maybe it's 6 months).

If back in 2019 the club had expected Norton to properly commence say at the end of 2021/22, phase 1 completing say at the back end of 2023/24, then having a new building at Shirecliffe for 3 years, or so, may have been commercially viable. The longevity involved in Shirecliffe may have been diminished further and throwing the loss of revenue into the mix, it might be a case of holding on for a couple more years and having it all done properly, elsewhere.

I'll point out it was a steelworks sports and social club ,with the best communal baths in Sheffield football .

Sure Bettis is quoted as saying that we have purchased two plots but are waiting for the council to release the plot that they own and no doubt negotiations are protracted as it was initially purchased at a discounted rate.

I didn't think there were any plans to draw back at Shirecliffe? It will remain there for the 1st Team only (with the proposed upgrades), and the new site at Norton will become the new Cat 1 academy...Or have I missed something?

Nothing will happen now, we thought up plans from staying in the premier league with that money.

There's been quite a bit of demolition work done at Norton, first time there has been anything done in decades apart from putting tyres out for the learner drivers to crash into

First stage is to move the women’s and junior sides to norton and then for there to be a second wave of construction moving the first team there as well. Or at least that’s what was first floated out as the plan when the building of a new facility was discussed.

Does anyone watch the women's team? They any good?

I've zero interest in them which is a bit odd really considering i love all things Bladey and i'm a massive pervert

They've not done bad, but losing probably their 2 better players, Katie Wilko who has been a goal machine and Nom Hartley, an utter rock at CB.

Ocean Rolandson is a looker as is Maddy Cusack (don't go by their profiles pics on the website).

Recent pic of the site, courtesy of my brother. The hangars are nearly gone (apparently there was asbestos). He reckons there's an underground bunker, dunno if that would complicate matters.

The hangers were full of asbestos but there cracking on with the clearing of the site tbh it's the best it's looked in years, the said bunker is further away in the woods next to the charnock football pitches & it's not underground so won't cause any issues. With it been in the woods I wouldn't know who is to take responsibility of it.

I have a vague recollection of the bunker now you mention it. I grew up on the Valley and used to go exploring a lot.
