Haven't there been rumours of this for ages? Even a site visit by some of the board at one point?
Yeah that’s true. Someone posted something about it last week and the council relinquishing on a previous deal. Can’t recall who the poster was now.

I could be mistaken but driving past it earlier, from the dual carriageway it looked like there were some vehicles parked nearby and I think a lot of the roofing sheets have been taken off.

But it is hard to see through the hedge whilst driving, and I am not sure exactly what the roof was like before.

So basically, I could be talking absolute conkers.

There was some drone photography doing the rounds there other week of the buildings with the roofing half removed. Can't remember the exact details, but the conclusion was the that, for health and safety as opposed to development, they needed to remove the roofing.

Gotta say, the idea of a unified, club wide, state-of-the-art training facility being up there is fantastic. So much better than Shirecliffe.

So the roof is now leaking?

the buildings has/had asbestos sheet roofing on thats why the car driving business was moved off, pre lockdown they were due to be demolished to make it safer

now covid restrictions have eased they are looking to demolish the remaining buildings to make it safer, theres currently a security team on site with dogs mostly to deter youths from pissing about as last year they were having parties fires etc. and off road biking etc

i think there was also delay as some live utlities are still on site so they need to be capped off rerouted etc

That's good and all but what is the contract details and immigration policy on the people that would be putting it together? ;)

"hard to see through the hedge whilst driving"
Pathetic!
Exactly how big a Blade are you anyway?

The driving people were kicked off because they were allowing ’ken block sessions’ late at night with boy racers screaming round the insides of what was left of the hangars

Noticed this didn't get mentioned in Bettis' interview. I take it the plans have been scrapped?

Did you read it?

I only ask because it was mentioned, specifically.

Edit..sorry, just realised the thread was originally about the building at shirecliffe. Norton aerodrome was mentioned. It would seem somewhat pointless to put a new building in at shirecliffe if a whole new site was being secured.

I disagree. Bettis said the Norton site wouldn't be done for a few years and the current building isn't the best. Hope SJ is aware of it, cause he'll be in for a shock first day of training.

The Wendy's are short of a proper training ground, maybe we could support the lower leagues by loaning it out to them when the new one is done ?

For a small remuneration of course.......... ;)
Theyve asked for any spare steel to be dropped in the sty car park to carry out repairs to the stands.

Just hope training roof doesn't cave in on him 🤣

I was under the impression Shirecliffe would be kept for First Team training. Norton would be used as the academy and ladies teams' base.

I think they said that the new one/Norton would be for everyone eventually, but the first team would remain at Shirecliffe for a bit while the academy gets moved over.

Doesn’t really make sense to spend money on shirecliffe if we are building a new facility

Only building a fancy terrapin building though, not much investment really, plus it'll be a while before any new facility is ready to go and we can't really go on with the current one for any longer.

Plus we might be able to take it with us if it's a fancy terrapin building, or give the women's team a permanent full time base at Shirecliffe while the men move to Norton.

If it’s not much investment, why the hold up?

And why pay to run 2 facilities? Makes zero sense

Think the end goal is a fully integrated brand spanking new facility at norton with all the bells and whistles and all teams under one roof probably with some branding around the word united. I’ll be interested to see how many pitches we end up with there. Also sheffield fc will have their new ground close by at meadowhead so there’s a chance for collaboration there and some good PR if we can offer them the use of some of the facilities.

I think that the building that’s being constructed is built off site and assembled at Shirecliffe. That would mean it could be de-assembled and transported to the new site to be rebuilt.

Stand to be corrected though 😉

We probably won't, probably sell it for housing, but having a permanent, full time, always available facility for women's football in Sheffield would be a good thing even if it didn't make much financial sense.

Obviously if Norton is big enough for them to have full time access to the facilities there then get them to Norton, better to have everyone under one roof if there's room.

If helping out our lower league neighbours becomes a thing, perhaps we could let the Pigs use our training centre too? It'd help Darren Moore out a bit, save him having to arrive two hours early in the morning just to inflate theirs.

Just two hours a day and 11 bibs can help Dejphon get them on their way. Do something amazing today x
