For those of us on Mars - what's up wi' Berge? Set aside for sale?

Before he was banged up in the nonce's pen, that musical device would have fetched a princely sum.

Now he's been busted as a diddler, I doubt you'd get a fiver for it, just for the new owner to smash it up with a hammer and film it for Instagram with angry, mis-spelt comments to the likes of 'HANGIN JUST 2 GUD 4 THIS CUNT!'.

I think it was a previsionary thought that demolishing the Sheaf Valley Baths was better than painting over that mural the creepy bearded freak put up there.

'Hoo-ah-haa-ah-hoo-ah-haa-ah-hoo' indeed.

Wasn't he at number one with a song called 'Two Little Boys' an' all?

"AH SWEAR AH'LL DO TIME IF THAT CUNT EVEN LOOKS AT MY KIDS!"

Not forgetting "Jake the Peg" (with the extra leg ;) )

When me and Ms Crab sourced stuff from the auctions, we would regularly buy random boxes o shite as you'd often find something of value in them (bit like Storage Wars I suppose).

Anyway, this was in a box, and it was literally a few weeks before it all blew up about Rolf.

Is buying boxes of stuff a thing? Can you look inside the box before you buy? What sort of money are you parting with for said box?

It is at many auctions, we used to go to one in Nottingham at a place called Arthur Johnson's. They'd start with the pottery, the good stuff and onto the jewellery, then the boxes which you were allowed to have a rummage through during the viewing before the auction.

Top tip (we have been bitten in the arse with this a few times before) is even with the "good" stuff, use the viewing time before to have a good luck at anything you are interested in. With most items, they are marked in the catalogue as A/F (as found) if they are known to be faulty or broken. However, sometimes things get broken in the viewings. If you buy something it is usually on a "sold as seen" basis.

As for the sort of money, it could literally be anything. My daughter is into photography, and one time Ms Crab found a box of old photo development equipment, a real mixed box. Nobody opened the bidding, so I bid a fiver and got it, gave it to my daughter. She said that there was at least £200 quids worth of stuff in it, even with the bits she couldn't use.

At the same place, there is Auction room 5 where they sell electrical items. If I'd had anything with a tail lift and the means to move the fucker, I could regularly have had old pub arcade bandits for £50

What if it's just a box. Or a box full of boxes.

Funny you should say that.

I once saw a box full of boxes go for £300.

The boxes in the box were mostly Rolex and Omega watch boxes though..................

I actually found an empty brand new rolex box on an aircraft with everything except the watch (tags, warranty card, receipt etc). Sold it for £100 on eBay. Probably housing a knock off these days but whatever.

A lot of the knock offs are that convincing that they'd probably have got away with it too. The better ones are often good watches in their own right, just not what they claim to be

That'd be because the buyer didn't want to risk getting done for import tax so wore it and left the evidence

The club should look to make a good fee out of this situation. Berge left a big hole in the midfield, not his fault, but the long term injury crippled the midfield.
The club has had Berge medically rehabilitated so they are entitled to demand a good profit in return.

Based on what I’ve seen of him so far I’d take £35m for him. If that money is reinvested in the first team properly it should build a team that gains promotion.
I’ve been desperate for Sander to do well, as some have said he is a class player who can hold onto the ball but unfortunately not many around him can read the next pass or take it from him and move forward.

This might sound way off the mark but those of us who remember Jan Molby at Liverpool around the mid 80’s was a fantastic player with literally no pace. What he did do was sit back, read the game, collect the ball and set up the players around him with short accurate passing. More often than not It was the other Liverpool midfielder’s jobs to set up the strikers. As a few have said he probably isn’t what we need right now, unfortunately.

And before I get any pelters, I’m NOT saying he is anywhere near as good as Molby in that double winning Liverpool team. I’m actually coming around to thinking the same as Millhousesblade1889 comment above.

Berge hasn't set the world alight as he's too good for us.
I absolutely love this logic.

It makes no sense whatsoever, but it’s really amusing that some players can actually get away with such a flawed argument. 😂

I think he played to prove his fitness and that a move to Arsenal is very much on the cards, unlike McCabe though Blades stick out for 35m minimum.
If we stick out for £35m, my bet is that he’ll be with us next season, and we’ll take a third of that (tops) in the next transfer window.

I will bare my arse on the town hall steps if anyone pays us £35m for Berge.

Baring your arse on the town hall steps doesn’t cut it anymore since Martin Cranie had his tiny cock out on the town hall steps during the promotion party.

Berge hasn't set the world alight as he's too good for us. He's surrounded by players that aren't on his level, can't anticipate what he'll do, and we've dragged him down to our level.

It's a massive shame but we can't afford to surround him with better players that compliment him, so we'll lose him without seeing how good he really is.
Players who are that much better than their teammates show it time and time again and get frustrated.

Ched was miles better than anyone else we had in League One and showed it by banging them in and creating chances that people should have been on the end of.

What’s Berge really done? Does he dominate? Does he put tackles in? Does he grab the game by the scruff of the neck and drive us forward? No. He simply doesn’t. He drifts through games, pulls off a few touches, can’t tackle anyone and looks knackered after an hour.

Saying he’s surrounded by players who can’t anticipate what he’ll do is disrespectful in my view. He doesn’t really do much.

I think people underestimate Berge. He's only 23 and most of his time before injury was getting acclimatised to the pace of the EPL. In a team which largely didn't suit the possession game he needs and with strikers whose movement is not good. He's a deep lying De Bruyne type player who was asked to play a more attacking role but always needed to get back to cover. It's easy to underestimate the sheer amount of work out players get through.

He'll be a quality player for someone like Arsenal.

That would be a sight for sore eyes, apparently the 35m is the release clause in his contract that's how I got the figure.

I'm sure it's right - but that's the value that if someone offered, we'd have to sell no matter what we wanted to do.

If we actually rate him lower than that (and that's all someone will pay), there's nothing stopping us dealing at a lower price.

I agree entirely alcoblade

I know it's a lot of money, but I do wonder if it was a signing, with the idea of making a profit, a little bit like Coulibaly, perhaps 'we' jumped in first after doing the research and took a relatively small risk, International player, good reputation on an upward trajectory

A few years ago (before noncegate) there was a gallery on Deansgate in Manchester selling a few of t’old Rolf’s paintings. I thought about buying one as an investment, considering he was knocking on a bit and it was bound to go up in value once he croaked. Thank Christ I didn’t bother...

Having Berge was like opening the wrong Christmas present when you were a kid. You played with it a little bit, but you always knew it has to go back in the box in the same condition you found it. Then ultimately return it to its intended recipient.
