Many of the Blades Mad forum are relishing relgatioin saying with the youngsters coming in we will bounce back with a fighting side. However I feel if the youngsters perform well in the FA Youth Cup Final many will be sold on. What do you think? The FA Youth Cup Final could prove to be yet another nemesis......

i think it should be pointed out that most of the youth team won't be good enough to have good professional careers.

look at previous winners, it's rare that most of the winning squad go on to bigger and better things

I'd hope that at least Maguire, Harriott and Ironside are signed up for decent contracts that make it difficult to be bought out and if so, bought for a ridiculous sum of money in true Ian Holloway fashion. £20m for each.

I think both opinions are just plain stupid. Firstly no one will be coming in for them, they've hardly made it at a professional level. Likewise they arent good enough to make up the squad en mass.
A couple next season, a few the season after but some fans are getting typically carried away.
There arent any Mellis' who stand out a mile.
We are already building them up too much, burdening them with expectation. Remember the unfair pressure that was thrown at Connor Brown when the Kyles were sold.

I would look more to the development squad for next season rather than the academy for most of the new faces.

Anyone thinking we've got a set of world beaters on our hands should simply go and watch the FA Youth Cup Final.
They play well together and there are one or two decent players who've already played first team this season.
Beyond that, I'm afraid none look obvious professional footballers in the making.
Some will no doubt go on to make it but there didn't appear to be anyone approaching the ability of either Kyle in the match against Villa.

Not in total disagreement but how much did you see of the Kyles at a similar age to the cup final lads?

Just wondering what you based your damning opinion on?

Nothing.
I just didn't see any similar pace, in particular, or dynamism which they both showed pretty quickly in the first team.
Was very disappointed in the forward players against Villa and think they'll struggle to make the grade.
On the pace issue, it was a bit worrying that we seem to have managed to produce a youth team without much pace in it to go with the plodders in the first team.

The reason I asked is because there wasnt much about the Kyles that stood out. They looked tidy but hadnt developed physically so were lightweight. Walker in particular looked totally different within 9 months and stepped over a lot of others in line for his 1st team chance.

Ability aside one of the reasons Rooney made such an inital impact at Everton was because he could always compete physically even at 17, he had a mans build.

That Conor Whickham is a big unit as well. I suggest that pies are added to the Academy menu!

"won't be good enough to have good professional careers" yet 13 of that side are now (as of Saturday Evening) playing at the same or higher level of football than the Sheffield United Football Club first team.

Good reasearch Soppers.

I think you're being a tad harsh though as the word "rare" suggests it can happen (and look further back to the MU team of Giggs, Beckham. the Nevilles for an even better example) but it is the exception rather than the rule.

I will be happy if 3 or 4 of the lads makes it (and fucking ecstatic if we actually hold on to them instead of selling them off and employing a Nosworthy) but it won't be easy.

I have a bigger worry. Firstly, the caveat. I've not yet heard Matt Lowtons interview in full, but the summary on RS sport this morning was about how he admitted "the players are finding it difficult " at the moment as morale and motivation is so low. If true, how exactly does bringing in kids not old enough to drink yet help with their development? Are they going to learn good habits or bad ones when being mentired by the likes of Collins, Doyle and Boggy? Smacking of Adams hoping they'll save his job rather than benefitting them long term to me.

Well until this season our youth academy has been creating players for Rotherham United.

Its about time Sheffield United got some players from it.

It would be lovely if we could get anywhere like the return that MUFC got from the 91/92 team:

G Neville
P Neville
D Beckham
N Butt
R Giggs
K Gillespie
R Savage

What would you think if Lowton said the lads were settling in fine and confidence was high?

The problem with the youth team, is they all have a lack of experience and it is getting them experience and bedding them in to the first team.

I'd start next season with maybe 2 or 3 in the first team as starters (Long, Maguire, Harriott and Slew) and keep 2 or 3 on the bench. If we go all guns blazing with several of the youth team as starters on the first day of next season then they are on a hiding to nothing and the inexperience will show through.

I would like to see us go in to next season with a strong spine, and set our stall out early to be hard to beat

They certainly ain't getting one at the Lane.

No, we made some decent money off them I hear!

(Let me remind you, you're the one always worrying about money at the club, perhaps we did well to sell them when we did)

Kyle Walker - Tottenham (Leicester on loan)
Kyle Naughton - Tottenham (Aston Villa)
Billy Sharp - Doncaster
Jonathan Forte - Southampton
Jordan Robertson - St Johnstone
Matthew Lowton - Sheffield United
Jordan Slew - Sheffield United
Harry Maguire - Sheffield United

The only problem with selling the Kyle's was that they were replaced by Ryan France. Thanks again Mr Blackwell for deciding to blow your budget on Ched ( Although I would love to keep him)

Definitely, worked out really well for SUFC.
Hopefully we can sell a few more, end up in League Two, tell ourselves we did well to sell them when we did and remind ourselves how thankful we are that we're a well run club.

Blackwell blew a considerable hole in his wage budget if the £7k per week rumours about Ryan France are to be believed. It's signings like that which have left us where we are - and will be partly to blame for the selling of our best young players.

Does anyone know if Kyle Walker and Kyle Naughton are getting a game at Don Valley these days?

They certainly ain't getting one at the Lane.

Based on your rhetoric Lenners, we've never been well run and now we're in dire financial trouble, so any player sales will have at least kept us out of Administration, so when we eventually end up in 4th Division, then we may well be glad we're there and haven't gone out of existence!

Do you want to switch your argument again?

that was Max Gradel. He's fallen well out of favour at Weeds.

Switch my argument?
Given that my argument has resoundingly been proved bang on the money, that would be a bit odd.
