Nathan Blake Still Loves Us At Least

Poor little big arsed show pony. He was shit and loved to play the race card when things appeared against him. Not a case of him being black more a case of him being an arrogant ,over-rated, vile individual with no class.

Quite possibly.
I'd love to know what happened surrounding his departure from the Lane which was I believe very shortly after Mr Kendall arrived.

I remember reading a quote from Charles Green some time after Blake's departure. It was along the lines of Howard Kendall asking him at half time at Ipswich about Nathan Blake, who hadn't been very impressive. Kendall asked him is that all he does and Green said "yes". Blake was off very shortly after that.

I was incensed at the time for two reasons. Firstly, Green happily overlooked the fact that Nathan Blake scored a load of goals for us and at Championship level was a real threat and secondly, Green, as Chief Exec, was claiming enough football knowledge to influence the new manager and that was to the club's detriment.

He took absolute dogs abuse for being lazy. Unfortunately we back a trier over a player every time. So long as they can run about for 90 minutes thats fine by us.

Personally one of my favourite players to pull on a Blades shirt. Skillful and almost kept us up with that goal at Spurs but unfortunately we couldn't defend for ten minutes at the other end.

Didn't he bag a brace against Newcastle that season also?

arrogant welsh tosser, whats he ever achieved ? oh the player who holds the record for most relegations from the premier league !!!! WOW

Don't really care about what players say in the media. As a player I liked watching him. He was quick and strong and always a goal threat. His style often made me laugh as well.

Bergen for Manager it is then. The "Shawcross" to become a standard unit of measurement.

Thousands of posts on formations, team selections, team balance, signings, zonal marking, defending and football efficiency, but all I'll be remembered for is the posting of two googled images of Ryan Shawcross isn't it?

Yup, that was when the commentator declared there was a new man at the head of the escape committee.
He also got the winner at Norwich I think the week before, both days were hot and sunny, we were smiling, we were staying up...

Keith Edwards scored a lot of goals for us, but wasn't renowned for breaking out in a sweat very often. We were happy to back him rather than have a trier in his place.

My work here is done.....

I remember Edwards getting pelters for being a lazy bastard and if I remember thats one of the reasons he left. Porterfield started dropping him to the bench because his work rate wasn't all that and when Leeds came in (any younger members please note this is how its always been) we sold him as quickly as you like.

personally i am all for the main striker too be a lazy fucker,as long as he puts the ball in the net ,for which he gets paid for.otherwise we finish up with strikers trying to defend like crouch did against real madrid

Sadly enough, on the first game i took my last girlfriend to see, we were sat in front of a bunch of six meatheads who regaled anyone in earshot to "You're just a team full of niggers." This was at at the Emirates when we got spanked 6-0. Thankfully they all got thrown out by the police (and hopefully arrested) at half-time.

That wasn't the first or last time i've heard racist abuse from United fans. The racist element is still there unfortunately

I remember a few years ago when I was sat on the Kop a black opposing player scored a penalty against us (I think it was Marlon King for Gillingham). When the ball hit the back of the net there was just complete silence on the Kop apart from one bloke who shouted at the top of his voice "Black Bastard!". Everybody within a 30ft radius just slowly turned their heads and looked at him and he all of a sudden seemed quite embarrassed and slowly sat down.

It was quite funny.

Whereas "Sex Pest" would have been better and legally accurate.

Its what is known as the Andy Gray Syndrome. Score 18 goals in a season but still get slated for not putting in slide tackles in our penalty area.

The blame lies with SCB and I. We were debating Ryan's height.

SCB was wrong, as usual. :)

It then emerged that you had the largest collection of Ryan Shawcross images in the UK. We were all impressed, though slightly puzzled.

It's staggering that people [well, Sitwell actually] can defend regulars in the present non-football team, yet label Nathan Blake 'shit'.

Well said. 34 goals in 69 games, a rubbish record. Including a pathetic 12 in 22 games in a bottom placed team just before he was sold. No one else has scored as many for the club since he left - well, except that other lazy overrated waster James Beattie - but personally I think we're much better off watching world beaters Darius Henderson and Marcus Bent.

Spot on there Rev BT was an utter waste of space, imagine scoring 20 goals a season. Don't forget that he was once seen putting an alloy wheel for his lambo into his boot as well. Tsk footballers these days.

The clue is in 'bottom placed team' as Nathan Blake spent his entire career. Did you actually see him play because although he had some ability Nathan Blake played for nathan Blake which is why he was the striker in relegated teams at Utd Blackburn and Bolton. His attitude and arrogance was unbelievable culminating in his drug abuse and total disrespect for anything to do with football. Scum like him have no place in football ,a game which gave him a fantastic living based around 1 outstanding goal for cardiff to which he treats with total disregard.
Goalscorers also have to be team players ,Rush and Lineker were 2 of the hardest working players you will ever see ,Blake and Andy Gray were not ,Rush and Lineker won loads ,Blake and Gray won fuck all.

Blake has won 2 more promotions to the PL than United have since we sold him.

Yes, I saw him play many times. I saw the full package - the debut at Ipswich as a sub in the snow, his first goal vs QPR after a strong run, the winner at Norwich, the super strike at Tottenham, the frustrations of early 1994-5 until he scored at Port Vale, the mercurial 1994-5 season where his 17 goals (8 in 4 games at one stage) were mixed in with daft sendings off , such as at home to Udinese and West Brom, early 1995-6 where he was our only attacking threat and, like Beattie under Robson, he was the just about only reason we had any points at all by the time Bassett went and, of course, the half time substitution at Ipswich (achieving a pleasing symmetry if nothing else) in his first and last game under Kendall.

Throughout this period I saw a forward with strength, pace, an eye for goal, and too short a fuse. He had arrogance and an attitude - his sending off against WBA, when he hadn't even touched the ball after coming on as a sub, is evidence of that - but it's simply false to say he didn't put in the effort. He was not a lazy player. As for selfish, what do you want from a forward? Someone who hasn't the balls to take a shot?

He was no Rush or Lineker. Perhaps he isn't a nice person. But I'd take the 1994-5 version of him over any player in this current crappy squad in a heartbeat.

As for Andy Gray, yes, he had his limitations, but someone has to score the goals. If you don't have anyone who can finish, well...just look at where we are this year.

see the sheffield pig paper has blake splashed all over the back page. adams should stick this on the dressing room wall, to show the team what the outside world think about them
