It will have been as a result of exposure to St Etienne's Allez Les Verts chant which did the rounds after they played Liverpool that season.

yes it was sung on the kop that season liverpool fans picked it up from st ettienes fans at anfield days of the crombie coats on the shoreham

Yes, remember them being waved on the Kop - they were readily available in the shops as it was Silver Jubilee year.

Wasn't it 'Allez les rouge, allez les rouge, Allez!'?

And my buddy (who was there) said there were an enormous amount of darts thrown by the Burnley fans.

And a copper who went between the pens ended up typically drenched in grollies, Proper ones, too. The stuff brought from the back of the throat after 20 Number Six.
