if you llist the attributes of a perfect striker, our strikers can barely muster 1 each.

In an ideal world a striker would be: strong, quick, a good finisher, good link up play, good in the air, have good footwork, useful defensively as well as in attack.

Henderson - please leave now. awful, and other than strong doesn't meet any other criteria.

Boggy - no thanks. Week, pussies out of every tackle, scared to head the ball, lack of pace, cant track back, never scores. can leave in summer for me.

riise - our best player, but is back to a proper club in a few weeks.

evans - underachieved, not too dissimilar to boggy, maybe with slightly more of an eye for a goal.

Cresswell - can leave as soon as we are able to get rid of him

Yeates - see above

Bent - lethargic, uninterested and on a large wage. Can't go back to Brum soon enough for me.

Sooooo, what does that leave us? sweet f*ck all in my opinion. and to be honest, you could do the same list for any other position.

Ironside & Slew - fingers crossed our starting partnership next season!

Ah but it's not an ideal world is it? Every team is on the look out for what you describe and only a few get it. Those that do have to pay a fortune and still aren't guaranteed it every match. The rest of us have to put up with average inconsistent performers. Set your sights low and at best, you'll not be disappointed more than you are now.

Better set your sights on another relegation battle then (I use "battle" loosely, as we haven't put up much of a fight!) because that'll be as good as it gets next season.

Truth of the matter is that the hidden gems don't exist any more. On paper signing Billy back should've seen us banging goals in left and right, but Blackwell messed up the larger part of his time at Bramall Lane pretty much just due to the fact he never rated him. Ched was a gamble in terms of proven ability and it's blown up in our faces - but I don't see him doing anything with any other club. Speed was right, in my opinion, in that Ched doesn't appear to really have been coached into being a footballer and so technically seems to make the wrong choices on too many occassions.

Not since Deane and Fjortoft have we had a really effective partnership, let alone a true consistant goal threat. Goal threats cost money and those that don't usually have the chest, head and first touch of Asaba!

It's all summed up in the 3 pics below...

Give me Asaba any day of the week over the shite we've got up top at the minute.

Looking at his performance yesterday thats not a striker, If he was he would have got us the points he would have missed a barn door from 6" inches and his heading is like a Guillotined zombie do me a favour don't go to training on Monday but go to the academy and learn the basic skills again.

Gary Lineker didn't have many of those attributes, neither did Ian Rush or Robbie Fowler etc. Mostly a striker has to be quick of thought, in the right place at the right time, a bit like Henderson was on 3 occasions yesterday.....................but that's when the difference between real strikers and our excuse for a footballer comes in. He can't put the ball in the net when it counts. Billy Sharp on the other hand can, and that's why he has done, and will continue to do so at other clubs. I honestly think that he'd have scored at least 2, maybe all 3 of the chances Henderson missed yesterday.

We have failed to address our lack of pace since Blackwell came in 2008, and only in a handful of games have we put out teams where more than one attacking player had the ability to run fast. For a team that often have played pretty direct football, I think we could also have benefitted if we had a target man who won most balls in the air - if not as a first choice, then at least in the squad. Our target men are usually 6'0 or 6'1 and may have been decent, but not excellent in the air.

I agree we could do with more extreme qualities and hope we address that in the summer.

Whilst we are on about Strikers, can someone please explain what the benefits of Daniel Bogbrushovic are?

All Boggy has for me is attempting to play with his head up and facing forward rather than back to goal and taking 45mins to turn on a sixpence.

If Henderson and Cresswell neither have the legs or desire to put their heads where others daren't then they aren't worth a thing to our squad.

But right now we need 2 players who actually work off each other and attack the ball. We look afraid to strike with any kind of purpose and painful as it is to say, Doyle does on occasion show this. Unfortunately it's the rare occasions when he doesn't suffer those "I'm in the attacking half" nosebleeds and shows a brief flash of purpose.
