When we went 2-1 up the noise was deafening. Unfortunately I missed Hull's 5th as it kicked off badly near where me and my young lad were sat, some coked up 'blades' kicking off with others and I made sure I got him out of there for his safety. Apart from that was a great day, saw the London Marathon in the morning, loads of blades out around London Tahn!

as soon as hulls 5th goal hit the back of the net the whole united end stood as one and applauded the team unbelievable moment but fantastic day all round especially in the green man garden next to darlington best away day following the blades although i was working the day we clinched promotion at filbert street

I’d booked three non refundable hotel nights in Manchester, as we were due to play Oldham on the Saturday. Four of us spent Saturday on the rail trail between Stalybridge and leeds. A brilliant day of booze in splendid pubs with top scenery and fresh air. Topped off by an Abduls kebab in Moss Side. Sometimes altered fixtures can work. Though I’m still owed cash for hotels and trains for Villa and Newcastle last year!

There’s some reight two hats in that photo.

I remember walking around on the concourse at halftime when we were 2-1 up. People were dancing around all over, delirious and that bit from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas popped into my head:

“We had all the momentum; we were riding the crest of a high and beautiful wave...you can almost see the high-water mark—that place where the wave finally broke and rolled back.”

And I knew we were going to lose and that that was as good as it was ever going to get. And that was kind of liberating.

The night before a Blade mate of mine's band were playing at the Water Rats by King's Cross and he asked me if I could escort Jim Phipps and his wife to the gig. Why not? I love the lad's music, but I'm not sure it was what a bunch of boozed up ex(/)-BBC wanted to hear.

Not sure. I know there was an enquiry but had no idea of any result. They were up and down all through the match, going to the bogs, shoving powder up their noses. They can't have seen much of the game. Why fckin bother going?

I made that - I put some effort in and it was a 1:1 exact scale to the real thing by the way.

The only compliment I got was from Radio_Blade "That's actually not shit"

But I got hammered by just about everyone for jinxing us... Never doing it again.

I tried to give it away to a young Hull fan on Wembley way afterwards to take on to the final but they weren't half a miserable bunch and didn't want it (jinxed y'see). And it ended up being lobbed around by a lot of drunken Blades and lost at the Harp near Trafalgar Square.
