You've continually alluded to the fact that the Prince will fuck it up and doesn't care, without any real reasoning aside from the fact you've taken a dislike to him because Wilder walked and how they've handed it
I have absolutely nothing at all against the Prince the reason I'm annoyed is because in my opinion he's thrown away the only chance we had at getting back. We did exactly the same with Warnock so find it incredibly frustrating we've done it again. I think a Saudi Prince cares less than Wilder about us as a club though yes. That's my reasoning.

You claim we aren't going to get the next appointment right, the list is going to be terrible. It's almost like you want it to happen so you would be proven right.
We'll see next season won't we. I'm not hoping he gets it wrong I'm just pissed off that we have one chance realistically to get back and we've lost a manager who I think would have given us a great chance.

I know I've gone in very heavy of late, but bitterness breeds bitterness. It's bad enough to have seen the club taken from the depths of obscurity to the cusp of something great and have it snatched away in the course of 12 months, I'm also having to contend with the sneering and baseless accusations against the man that took us on that journey.

It goes without saying that Chris Wilder isn't infallible, we've all seen the errors that have been made and despite how it may look, I don't have the blinkers on. But the eagerness with which some fans have to denigrate their own baffles and infuriates me in equal measure. Hence my reaction.

It's still a hotbed of emotions round here since the divorce.

It'll be reyt in future. Look forward to clapping Wilder on to the pitch in 2042 when they wheel the legends out for the 150 year anniversary. I'll probably rooer a bit to be honest.

Exactly this. If people are going to forget 4 great years (and 1 poor one) for the sake of a 30 second soundbite we really never deserved what Wilder gave us

So because of 4 years we should allow CW freedom to publically slag off the board who's backed him as best they can? The same board he praised in January 2020 & August 2019 I might add.

We should allow CW to waste vast sums of money on poor signings?

We should tolerate CW publically degrading his players (that he signed btw) in the media?

We should tolerate CW's insistence on a broken system that's yielded 4 wins & 20+ defeats in 30 games?

We should tolerate the uncertainty he created multiple times over the years when he used the media to infer resignation so that he could get his way?

I love Chris Wilder for everything he did for United. He made us loud and proud again. He's an icon of this club that shall never be forgotten.

But don't for one minute think that we could tolerate and sustain his recent behaviour forever.

Because in the same part of the interview, PA also said that they finished 9th. In effect PA was saying that CW didnt consider them as Championship players last season but did now. Also he gave him a budget to improve these players and he didnt play them. As I said, you took the quote out of context

we massively overachieved that season, i thought no sane fan thought that we were 9th best on merit, basham & lundstram hadnt turned into europa league players overnight. he gave a budget but he was very naive on wages. he said we have big players on 40,000 & 50,000 a week. now if we were playing in premier league in 2009 he has a point. but kevin de bruyne & sergio aguero are on 40,000 grand a day. callum wilson was on 70,000 a week

he was talking about brewster as if we had bought salah "we have bought players from liverpool & given then a pay rise". he made his PL debut for us. that how much he played for them

still doesnt change the fact. he resigned because he was effectively competing in best league in the world with 1 hand behind his back
According to someone very close to him, he was very close to joining League One Sunderland in the 2018 close season (after our first season in the Championship).

yes i was going to say this. but you said it better than i could.

dave bassett was before my time, but ive always been confused at why neil warnock is so hated by our fans, this is guy who took us from dying on our arse & under 10,000 crowds. to 30,000, 2 cup semi finals & promotion some of my greatest memories as a utd fan. but i can see this going the same way & in a few years wilder will be in same way as warnock, as a song released in the last 9 months goes "I can't make it go away, by making you a villain"

I don't really understand this. Who hates Bassett or Warnock in terms of their performance as our managers?

Warnock is a nobhead, always has been, always will be. Dicey Cornish tours and constant stroppy child aggro at officials. He did great when he took over and taking us up. He was an embarrassment in every interview though. The dire football he treated us to (I changed seats to behind the dugout because listening to his stropping was far more entertaining than the excuse for football in the last few months. Painful 3 shots per game stuff. I don't hate him though, he's just a bit of a joke.

I was admittedly young when Bassett left and it went downhill towards the end but I don't have anything but admiration for what he did without any money.

As for Wilder, emotions are still running high, especially since everyone is locked down and has nothing better to do, but why would anyone hate him? He's given us 4 great seasons and one shit one. I'm pretty sure in a few years time he'll be seen, quite rightly, as one of our best ever managers.

The Bladey Bladey bollocks which came with him, which isn't his fault but he milked it, was always going to make it confrontational when he left. It will settle down though.

still doesnt change the fact. he resigned because he was effectively competing in best league in the world with 1 hand behind his back

as i always say you dont see man city giving Guardiola his C list targets & a bottom half wage budget. then angry at him as to why they arent challenging for the title or getting to champions league latter stages

One hand behind his back ?

Eh? theres not many managers in world football who have had a more hands on approach

Biggs on national radio whingeing PA talks to national media before him and saying Wilder didn't name PA personally in his critical comments.

Jeez.
Of course Biggs is moaning, he's been reduced to tweeting opinion emails from McCabes mates.

He's so far out of the loop it's painful.

According to someone very close to him, he was very close to joining League One Sunderland in the 2018 close season (after our first season in the Championship).
but that would be the same issues as now. so this has been going on longer than we thought , as didnt someone publish championship figures & we had the 18th biggest wage budget the year we got promoted, we were only spending the david brooks money

We'll see next season won't we. I'm not hoping he gets it wrong I'm just pissed off that we have one chance realistically to get back and we've lost a manager who I think would have given us a great chance.
Why do you think we only have one chance to get promoted?

I'm no legal eagle, but if CW has signed an NDA does this mean he can't respond in kind ?
I’d imagine it’ll depend what’s covered by any NDA the prince has also been pretty vague about most things other than the resignation. For instance he hasn’t said what the final payout was or why it was a mutual agreement rather than a straight resignation so there’s obviously some wiggle room to talk but some thing which are off limits.

If anyone can't watch the full interview here's a rough transcript:

General intro
Believes that replacing a manager is the most expensive thing a club can do. Even if the manager is only average you should avoid replacing them.
Generally believes that recruitment should be owned by the club, not the manager because the club has a longer term view. However, made an exception for Wilder.

Recognised Wilder's success at the club and did three things:
  • Offered him a new contract last year on very good terms (substantially more than £2.5m a year)(later on it's suggested it was almost £4m a year)
  • Contract had a £50m breakout clause if Wilder wanted to go to another club
  • Offered Wilder 1% ownership of 'United World' if he kept us in the PL for five years

Southampton
In December 'Steven' (presumably Bettis) told the Prince Wilder was thinking about resigning
Met Wilder in person before Soton game. Told him:
He wouldn't be fired regardless of results for the rest of the season, thought he was the best man to get us back up.
He wanted to speak at the end of the season about recruitment because it could have been done better.
Raised concern with some of Wilder's comments to the media ("I can't make cake out of sand" and "I only have Championship players to work with"). Concerned that these comments hurt the club's image with sponsors.
"I'm ok with Chris taking all the credit when we win, but please take some responsibility when we lose".
Also talked about January transfer window (detail about this later).
Felt the conversation with Wilder had gone well.

Palace
After Palace match 'Steven' calls Prince, says Wilder wants to leave again.
Felt disappointed about this.
Says he felt conflicted about having backed Wilder's transfer policy with its significant net outlays. "We recruited the way Chris wanted to recruit"
Didn't want to speak to Wilder at this time, the Vice-Chairman spoke to him instead on the phone.
Wilder explained why he wanted to resign - "There was no talk about a Director of Football, or a leaking roof at the training ground" - Wilder just felt the team needed change and a new voice (adds a bit later this was the sole reason - he hadn't been tapped up etc, just thought he'd done everything he could).
There was a conversation about compensation and it was made clear to Wilder the club didn't want to fire him and he wouldn't get the same compensation if he resigned.
Wilder's representatives then e-mailed asking for a £4m payoff.
Club made it clear they wouldn't pay £4m. Prince also wanted to delay on making a decision hoping results may improve/Wilder may change his mind. Also suggests that the club didn't have a plan for if Wilder were to resign because it was a shock.
Some other people on the board felt strongly that Wilder was abandoning the club.
Prince still hoped Wilder would stay. However he felt there had been a breach of trust, and was reflecting on whether if he could risk backing Wilder significantly in the summer if he might just turn around and threaten to quit again.
"I don't blame him from resigning.. I'm sure the pressure is not easy"

Wages
"I would never accuse Chris of leaking things to the media. He is a person of integrity. Maybe some of the people around him..."
Wages: "We have players above £40k, around £50k"
Besic, Ampadu, Brewster, Ramsdale, Mousset all got either the same wage or an increase from their previous PL salary. None of them are the highest paid player.

Transfers
Feels that Brewster and Ramsdale will turn out to be very good signings, but worried that we needed more plays with an immediate impact.
Says the board suggested some 'reasonably valued' players who are having great seasons in the PL/Germany, that were not signed.
Felt the transfer strategy was limited in terms of target market.
Wanted Wilder in the future to suggest options rather than demand a single player - justifies this saying this puts you in a weaker negotiating position.
Wasn't happy Wilder talked about Brewster before we signed him.
"When it comes to recruitment it can't be my way or the highway every time"
"Chris did wonderful things for the club, but when it comes to recruitment we have to be more flexible".

January Transfer Window
"How could I sign players when I didn't know if the coach would be there in a few weeks?"
Felt we had a very poor January window last year (for those not keeping track we signed Rodwell, Robinson and Berge)
Felt there was very little chance we would stay up, so buying players wasn't necessarily wise.
Wilder was asking for a defensive midfielder, Prince felt what was needed was someone who could create chances.

Wilder leaving
Shortly before he left Wilder requested a meeting with the board.
Three zoom video calls were scheduled.
"We told him we wanted him to be the coach next year. But we told him some of the things we did not like". "I thought the call went very well".
After that Wilder's agent said he didn't want to participate in the subsequent meetings. "I was shocked".
Wilder turned up to the second meeting, said he didn't want to talk and would send a letter outlining the things he was unhappy about.
(There's a bit here where it seems the Prince is going to go into detail about what he felt were unreasonable demands, but he pulls back and instead says he has great respect and gratitude for Wilder).
This letter included things like the complaint about the leaking roof.
Price says it's ridiculous to suggest these were things that weren't going to be resolved, suggests Covid and short pre-season were behind some delays.
Seems clear Prince felt the letter & Wilder's approach at this time was very disrespectful.
After this communication broke down.
"We replied to Chris' letter with a letter. I think Chris didn't like the tone of the letter"
Wilder then insisted on resigning again and the board felt it was in the best interests of the club due to the breakdown in the relationship.

What happens next?
Priority to get back to the PL.
All options are open
"Will look at how we end the season"
Expect to sign someone who will be involved in recruitment "but we have to learn from our mistakes"
Some players have minimum fee release clauses in their contracts
"If we sell a player we'll bring in a replacement" but looking to keep the core team

Of course Biggs is moaning, he's been reduced to tweeting opinion emails from McCabes mates.

He's so far out of the loop it's painful.

I think people need to realise he's a Pig too, so anything to cause a rift between our fans he will try and do. I never take not of a word he says to be honest, he talks in riddles, when he's probably made of it up.

Have you not noticed how they absolutely slate Wilder? Really nasty and personal stuff questioning his motives, calling him greedy, jumping ship, not really a blade etc. Such odd behaviour from United fans. Seem to enjoy slating him as well it certainly isn't done with a sense of sadness it's turned out this way. Tbh they'll probably be exactly the same to Prince once he fucks up next season, it's probably just they enjoy chucking out their bullshit knowing it will annoy a few people. But it's still pretty sickening

You can love CW and the job he did (I do)

You can also think the prince has every right to voice his concerns on transfers and CW having the attitude of a petulant 5-year old ( My opinion also)

It was only gonna end one way and CW takes the majority of the blame IMO

You are allowed to have different opinions to form a viewpoint

He resigned man ffs resigned! , how do you make that out to be the prince “throwing away our only chance of getting back up” ?

No justification for "greedy, smug, cunt" etc. And questioning if he's a blade.

I agree with this completely. We have to appreciate what Wilder has done, like Warnock.

I remember Brian Deane scoring against us (I think for Leeds but might have been Leicester). I'd not seen him in his prime with Agana as I was too young, however my dad said he was a club legend and I did see his return briefly before we shipped him to Benfica on that disastrous day, all I witnessed that day were Blades on to him when he scored and a bit of booing too. It's hardly like he was just going to not bother because he played for us in the past.

Obviously there was the Paddy Kenny incident too, when you listen to his interview on Under the cosh he didn't deserve that reaction at all.

yes i was going to say this. but you said it better than i could.

dave bassett was before my time, but ive always been confused at why neil warnock is so hated by our fans, this is guy who took us from dying on our arse & under 10,000 crowds. to 30,000, 2 cup semi finals & promotion some of my greatest memories as a utd fan. but i can see this going the same way & in a few years wilder will be in same way as warnock, as a song released in the last 9 months goes "I can't make it go away, by making you a villain"

As I've said on here and previously, my dislike for Neil Warnock comes from his words and actions in his final couple of years with us. But I backed him as much as Wilder up to that point.

I recall us losing 1-0 away to Grimsby in (I think) early 2002. From the back of the away end there chants of 'Warnock Out' and 'Going down etc. Before long there was a full blown fist fight, Blade vs Blade.

To put this in context, Warnock at that point had taken us from getting soundly beaten by Port fucking Vale in front of 8,000 fans at Bramall Lane and heading towards certain relegation, to a respectable finish in his first season, to a transitional season in his second and making slow but sure progress.

That's the mentality of a large, nasty and gobby section of the support. They'll always assume the worst of somebody and can't wait to stick the boot in when setbacks occur.

There’s also some interesting little tit bits about the approach going forward in the rammers and Brewster are viewed as cornerstones of the side over the coming years and we’ll probably be more continental in our recruitment approach going forward. Personally I think this is encouraging and again speaks to actually having a plan which is good to see. If the board go out and appoint a progressive forward thinking manager now I’ll be quietly confident about things going forward.

He resigned man ffs resigned! , how do you make that out to be the prince “throwing away our only chance of f getting back up” ?
Because in my opinion he's resigned because he's not happy with the way the club is going. I think we should have tried virtually everything to keep him. That's how. Dont really care if you disagree I'm saying that's why I think he's chucked it away.

I've got so many splinters in my arse from sitting on the fence and trying to see both sides of the issue. Chris did wonders for us, of course he did, but my two main problems are his lack of ability or desire to change or even adapt tactics despite defeat after defeat after abject defeat, and it bothered me that he took the adulation when it went well, but blamed everyone and everything else when it went sour. As the owner says:

"I am OK with Chris taking all the credit when we win but at least take some responsibility when we lose. Don't, under the pressure of some losses, say 'everything around me is rubbish'."
I've never sat on the fence regarding Wilder as my posts prove. Never convinced by him, sells good young players for peanuts to buy players who lack flair but are prepared to die for him. Reluctant to play young players for example Brooks. Only prepared to play one system even when it's been sussed.
His recruitment could well have wrecked the club long term.
We are well rid, only wish the Prince had had the balls to have got rid sooner. Probably got bullied by Wilder.
It's clearly going to be tough clearing up the mess left but we have no other option

Really Interesting and folks will believe what they like but my take away points;
  • £4m is the compensation allegedly asked for. Equivalent to one years salary. @chabs was seemingly on the money with CWs pay. He was competitively paid.
  • Wilder wanting to resign a number of times as thought we need a new voice fits with some stories around the Palace game and when he was overheard at the final whistle.
  • Acknowledgement that they had concerns over his recruitment at Premier league level.

  • Chris resigning gave concerns that if we had a poor start next year he may look to leave again, so difficult to trust in him being committed long term.
  • Ramsdale and Brewster are the contentious signings, but he thinks they’ll be the “cornerstone” of our side next year but we needed players for this season not the future.
  • Players suggested by the board were discounted by CW and are now playing “very well”
  • One having a great season in Germany.
  • Recruitment again an issue. Club wanted more targets to be identified and from a wider market so they could negotiate. CW wanted his way and wasn’t open to that changing.
  • Limited number of targets made negotiations difficult.
Got to say, for a guy under huge attack from the fanbase on social media, he again comes across well.
Who’s the one in Germany?

yes i was going to say this. but you said it better than i could.

dave bassett was before my time, but ive always been confused at why neil warnock is so hated by our fans, this is guy who took us from dying on our arse & under 10,000 crowds. to 30,000, 2 cup semi finals & promotion some of my greatest memories as a utd fan. but i can see this going the same way & in a few years wilder will be in same way as warnock, as a song released in the last 9 months goes "I can't make it go away, by making you a villain"

The old Warnock low attendance chestnut. In the ten years prior to him becoming manager we only had one league attendance under ten thousand according to records. (Not counting at least one in the season he was appointed) mYes, he increased attendances but let’s not rewrite history about sub ten thousand gates. That’s Colins job.

Biggs on national radio whingeing PA talks to national media before him and saying Wilder didn't name PA personally in his critical comments.

Jeez.
After Bigg's published an attack article on our board from a source with a grudge, I would blacklist him too.
He wouldn't be getting a word out of my organisation especially when there are better alternatives in the local area.
