I've done my bit of clapping for 35 years, the last 8 or 9 I'll take them or leave them.
If they don't impress me they can foxtrot Oscar.
If they're worth watching I will watch.

And considering that when I first started watching they would have had absolutely no problem in selling a 45,000 - 49,000 stadium out on the odd occasion when a really important game came along, but are now down to the bare bones of basically only having 27,000 - 28,000 fans left that they can call upon, I think it's safe to say most people have thought they can foxtrot Oscar over the years as well

Things were a lot worse 35 years ago than they are now, crowds were barely reaching double figures & even when a big game did come along there was no way we were getting over 40,000.

The second half was as well as we've played in a while, I've not seen us have so much of the ball in a long time. Despite that, its the same old story with a big fat duck egg next to Sheffield United in the goals column.

You can see the difference in quality and confidence with the goals they scored. None of our team would have taken the shot on that Chilwell did and likewise with Ziyech, we'd have pissed around, waited for the defence to get back and passed it around a bit more for the inevitable cross to be cleared.

Anyone in any doubt about Wilder possibly losing the dressing room must accept that today was a revelation. Every player, including Lunny, up for it. Excellent performance and we really should have scored 2. No need for wholesale clearouts, and Hecky might be our man?

No disrespect intended to the guy, but there's a reason he was looking for an u23's job not a first team role, and yesterday wasn't much more than a continuance of the previous however many games this season with a nice bit of possession to make us feel better.

We ought to be looking for much better than Hecky.

We did not have sufficient seats available and subsequently had to restrict season ticket holders and there were constantly discussions on here about health and safety and the police restricting the number of match day seats we could occupy.
Difficult to confirm exactly how many we could have sold whilst in the premiership but every match was a sell out with waiting lists for any “returns”

I appreciate the discussion but am obviously being a bit thick in not understanding your point. There isn’t a club in the country,with our recent league record, that can fill a 50k stadium. If we were a top 10 PL team with regular European qualification, I’d have no doubt that we’d hit 50k for most games - the City, and our fan base is plenty big enough. I couldn’t see any PL games because I couldn’t get a ticket. Yes, I know, I could have bought a season ticket but I’d find the 12 hour round trip a bit much so I’m obviously not a true Blade.
What, I think, you’re conflating, is the performance on the pitch with attendance. Of course they are linked but, if the former improves, the latter will take care of itself. Gate receipt revenue is a modest proportion of income at the PL level. The King Power holds 32k and Leicester aren’t too bad are they?
When people worry about the club being mortgaged into bankruptcy - building seating capacity for a team that can’t survive in the PL would be crazy. Only Newcastle stand out as having a capacity of that size without being top 6 and they are unique. I don’t count West Ham as they inherited a stadium.

The fact is, we've had fuck all success for generations, however promotion to the PL saw Season Tickets sell out for the first time ever.
Between 25-27,000 went as part of the early bird promotion, none were put on general sale, and many ST holder from the previous season missed out.
You had to go through a daft set of criteria in order to get the matchday tickets which had to be made available via the booking office, which also put a fair few off.
You also had to be registered with pre-existing loyalty points to ensure rival fans or glory hunters weren't given tickets over our own.
If that doesn't suggest that there is the demand there should the club be in the right place, then I'm not sure what does.

Realistically when you look at Heckingbottom if you looked at his CV as a footballer he was a journeyman which isn't always surprising for ex Man United academy product. If you looked at his coaching career apart from the short disaster at Hibs he hasn't left Yorkshire in any of his coaching. Not saying that it is a must but I think he will need more than a few promising performances, if he won more than half of the 9 games left it might leave a sweet tooth win 6 and he might get the job. Yes we played better yesterday but in all fairness Chelsea weren't anything special.

The point is that when a 40,000 stadium gets mentioned on here it is dismissed because we'd never fill it.

But until quite recently our stadium held 49,000

The fans used to be there, they might not have turned up every week because we were always shit, but they could be called upon in massive numbers if the match was important enough.

Now they don't exist anymore, that indicates that the club is dying, bit by bit, generation by generation it is dying,

I know it doesn't bother the bigger blades who will watch us in the bleeding Conference, but it should do.

What’s happened this last week losing 5-0 and then only losing 2-0 reminds me of losing a twenty pound note and then finding a tenner.

I’m happy I’ve found the tenner but I’m still down a tenner

it seems pretty clear to me the club is now on a big cost cutting exercise. Needed I know because our revenues will be stripped. However, if the club are looking for a proven manager capable of winning promotion, then the board won’t get one unless said manager is supported financially. I’m not convinced that PA is in a position to be able to do that. All I see is the mortgage being serviced and instalments needing to be paid on our big money signings

What I do see and tbh hope to see are some of those promising young academyplayers given an opportunity to shine. This could be their breakthrough season and hopefully most will grab it with both hands

I see no big money signings, only sales of some of our best players such as Berge, Egan and maybe another one. A few releases and hopefully a couple walking out by consent

We will not win promotion unless the right manager is signed. The right man in charge is half the battle. 11 superstars won’t win promotion with a shit manager but 11 players with a top manager might.
