Alan Biggs whos a good pal of Wilder has outlined what CW is wanting next season. Which may be an attempt to bury the hatchet and move forward with the Prince.

What he is seemingly requesting is great to be honest. I would have thought he would have more money to spend etc. Anything below the below we won’t be getting promoted.

  • Only loan signings - but 4 or 5 of quality
  • Trim the squad by 6 or 7 (not all fringe players)
  • Keep all the top performers
  • Stay on top of transfers

IF true, I can understand the logic of loan signing only. I believe Chris has learnt from experience now that players from the Championship and below may be excellent in those divisions, but can be complete flops in the Prem until they've had chance to mature. Let him create a squad to get us promoted first and then hopefully with greater revenue and hopefully some additional financial support if the prince can find a partner, we can then invest in players proven at Prem and European level to be able to compete longer term. Four or five good quality loans from the Prem and or Europe will surely get us over the line and perhaps such players may be signed to possibly make permanent.

The issue is the as you rightly point out Henderson is the anomaly loan signing when in comes to wilders tenure and uniteds history in a wider sense.

But if only keep the top performers from this season, and only sign 4 or 5 quality loans, we still won't have enough first teamers to field a 7 a side team, let alone a full Championship squad!

As long term strategies go, this is up there with Brexit.

So, we start the 2022/23 season with basically 12-15 players in the entire squad?

If they are good enough to get us up someone else will buy them WBA , Fulham ect !
KM tried the loan route and it failed miserably

Especially in our case as were reliant on the prem/parachute money to boost our recruitment coffers to use a year of that one loan players would be akin to burning the money if it fails. And our owner (despite the good things he does) isn’t going to say well we tried it it didn’t work here’s 40 million to go and rectify it.

Doesn't make any sense to me, for a start we need at least 2 permanent midfielders
 
I can't see why we need a manager anyway, when all they have to do is ask this board, whom I'm sure would be only too happy to oblige.
They are going to need one hell of a bank account mind.. .... :rolleyes:

Exactly. If the transfer strategy is dictated by the wage budget then we should aim to offload high earners in order to afford permanent signings. Not retaining higher earners and bringing in loan signings. Loans should be the cherry on the cake, not a big slice of it.
If the Prince is potless he'll have an eye on the money he'd have to put in from year three onwards.

It's not a long-term strategy unless we're suddenly going to be overflowing with money.

Especially given we'd need to sign 7-9 players if we got promoted and we can only sign two from this country.

I can understand if we wanted to sign 3-5 young players to develop and the loans would mean that we weren't relying on them, but signing no one means that we'll barely be able to scrape a squad together the year after.

Agreed it also limits our ability to generate income through sales in 2-3 years time as we’ll have passed up the opportunity to have acquired saleable assets.

If we can get the average age/wage down even if it means offloading Stevens, Mousset, Norwood, Baldock and one or two of the big hitters that'd be a positive. Strategic. I imagine the majority of the contracted players will be on top end Championship money which might be unsustainable for the Prince in 23/24; so the quicker it happens the better. It's a fool that waits for the shit to hit the fan before acting.

The time for loans was this season. 4-5 loans creating a much stronger squad because we couldn't afford to buy ready made PL players. We did it last season. But that involves foreign loans...

Imagine if we started this season with another LCB, RCM, ACM, CB (instead of Rodwell, Jags, Bryan, Moore and Robinson) in the squad? Sure, they cost millions, but 5 loans is like 1 Brewster. Not only does it cover injuries it allows us to manage the fitness of other players. At the moment, many players simply have to play. Not good in a squeezed season.
 
Wasn’t the Prince saying the other week that loan signings haven’t work out for us and now it’s our recruitment plan hmmm

It'll be shit or bust next season and if it doesn't work out, then we'll be in full rebuild mode and not burdened by lengthy expensive contracts that has gotten a lot of other relegated clubs into a big mess!
