Seems pretty unfair to be judging Chris right now imo, with so many first choice players out. He can only play the hand he's dealt after all. And no one would want to play a pair of deuces if they had a choice.
I was pretty pissed off a couple of weeks back, but I don't believe now is the time for him to leave, given the injury situation.
Atm it's still "Wilder in" for me.

Careful. That sounds very reasoned and thought out for this place!

This is true, but also, we could probably field a much stronger team if we weren't so rigidly attached to 352.

This is what I just can't understand, rigidly sticking to the same formation, week in, week out. They obviously practice different formations and change around the 60th minute when we're 1 or 2 behind. Just don't understand why he doesn't try a different formation straight from the off, especially with the injuries we have 🤷🏻‍♂️

We were doing so well with a full team minus one player for the first half of the season. Even drew a few games.

I agree, to an extent, that he's got one hand tied at the moment but his refusal to change the formation or system is what he should be judged on.

And on the flipside, it's not fair to judge him the last 3 seasons as he's been able to largely field a settled side?

All strikers fit
All midfielders fit apart from berge
WBs from last year both fit

Yet we still can't look like a team on the front foot looking to win a game

Yes the CBs are all out and the defence needs protecting but what happens when the rest of the team is supposed to play? Despite CW saying "it's not about the system or the shape" I'm sorry but it absolutely IS!

How shit must our players be if they can't play 442 aswell as 352?

Just don't believe that George or Bogle can't play as fullbacks, Enda does it alright for RoI. Midfield wouldn't even have to change if he didn't want, just play the 3 with McGoldrick in front or Ampadu behind. Or he could use Bogle and Lowe as wingers and extra back up defensively in front of George and Enda, then pick any two strikers.

If they can't play 2 formations without getting confused and scoring 6 own goals then we should pay them all off and start again.

Of course they can play 442, it's just Wilders stubbornness to stay with 3 at the back no matter what. To play George at RCB today was crazy.
If a manager is consistently changing formation at half time or just after, means to me he is getting the starting lineup consistently wrong.

Just a thought but maybe we persevere with 352 because our remaining fit center backs would likely get completely destroyed without the extra man in the back line (they are currently struggling with three of them there). It's all well and good saying go 442 but i don't think we have the squad of players to do that in this league sadly.

CW on BBC "I haven't got an answer to the question of how we improve performances from here"

More than a quarter of the season left and the manager doesn't have a clue how to improve the results but he also says it's not about shape or strategy.

They used to say that meant he's obviously taken us as far as he can (by his own admission) but I'm not going to suggest that because I don't want to be sent to S6 by the "job for life" crowd ;)

Agreed re missing players but apart from Berge its really only defence where we are missing starters and our problem for me is going forward. We are ponderous, lacking in penetration and pace and very predictable.

I'd like to see u.s try something different be it formation, giving a couple of younger players a chance etc. Instead I'm watching Lunny jogging around giving the ball away and passing backwards game after game

If we’re losing anyway what difference does it make? Goal difference means fuck all when we’re so far adrift.

Yes but if you take the first choice centre backs and all but one of the second choice defenders out of any club, its going to have a massive impact. We've basically just played with our 4th and 6th/7th choice defender and a man out of position as our back line. I think that might just disrupt a team.

It's a fair point and your right, it doesn't make any difference but we haven't had a proper hammering score wise yet. As daft as it sounds I'd rather loose by one than five or six

I’d rather lose knowing we’d had a good go at it and got hammered than go out with a whimper.

Norwich got hammered a fair bit last season but they went for it and won plaudits for doing so. It also meant that they didn’t have the meek, beaten-before-we-start stink hanging about them this season that we’ll have, in all likelihood, next.

The injury problem was bad enough before Jags' suspension, so I can forgive them getting caught out at the back for the penalty. The second goal though was the story of this season. No pressure on Lundstram, time and space to pick a pass, he can do anything he wants except hit it at the nearest Southampton player. Two seconds later the ball's in our own net. And I know Lundstram shouldn't be in the side but there's no one to take his shirt.

Once again, we can't really talk about formations and tactics. It's all redundant if one of our players shoots themselves in the foot at the first opportunity.

Putting injuries to one side for this argument as we had this problem from the start of the season. 352 is not effective the way we play it in the PL. This is for a couple of reasons. 1. We have too much of an emphasis on attacking down either flank. Nothing is created through the centre. This limits our options and unless we break at speed then the opposing defence is comfortable.
2. The opposite applies when the opposition attacks. They tend to be able to run at us through the centre easily creating panic.
Unless we change formation and a dress this our forwards will be limited in scoring opportunities

The last few games are going to be a threadbare squad trying to not to be disgraced any further. It’s sad watching us at the moment.

That said, we were poor at the start of the season and have probably looked better with these so called squad players thrown together to help out.

Wilder says week in week out it's not the tactics, it's not the formation. Plan B is go to back 4 when we start losing (most games)

He needs to realise what he's talking about is bollocks. He'd shove the kit man in to keep the shape and his narrative valid.

He's too stubborn and set in his ways unfortunately. The system that pissed league one and the champ just isn't working anymore. No plan b

Nah, this is nigh on 12 months of been shit now, he’s failed miserably. It’s not all about bad luck and injuries.

This. Coaches, just like players, have their limits. He’s clearly above L1 level and can do it in the Championship but the big step up to the PL has shown that he can’t cut it here. No disgrace, there have been many others but there is no way CW can keep us in the PL if we get back here. I’m sure that, given his recent interviews, he knows that and is expecting/ looking to be sacked. Thanks for the memories Chris, it was terrific and I’m sure he will do great things with another Championship team but fall short again if he gets promoted.
