I know what you’re saying but it’s kind of a meaningless comparison.

But then again even if you compare it to say a Burnley or a West Brom, we still probably can’t afford as much as them. The Premier League is made up of mini groups of teams that can’t compete with each other.

There’s the top 6 that will always be there no matter what happens, the teams that bring in the money that the league will never allow to be relegated.

the premier league mainstayers that may break in every now and again but they’re mainly there because they’re getting the Prem money every year.

Then there’s the clubs that are just about establishing themselves but one wrong year sees them facing relegation and then there’s the newly promoted teams who just paddle about and hope that a bit of momentum and luck allows them to get on the next rung of the ladder.

Basically we’re just about clinging on to the bottom rung at the minute, we had momentum and a bit of luck last year but without that, we’re struggling because we can’t take compete to take ourselves to that next level.

IF we are to have a change would it make sense to pull the trigger now giving any new manager a few games to assess what he’s working with & plan the summer reshuffle in advance. This would obviously be dependent on availability of any prospective replacement. I’m not advocating giving Wilder the push & would be happy for him to decide if he feels he can re-energise the club. I know PA has given his view on Wilder staying at the helm but things can change quickly.

if this is right I hope he’s got deep pockets because we’ll go backwards if we don’t invest and as we know the Prince doesn't have the wealth to invest as a Leicester or Southampton, we would never have got to the prem without Wilder and Knill, we’d still be stuck in league 1, and that’s highly likely where we’ll end up.

I think the prince would be best remembering that the majority of this squad is Champ quality, it’s with the collective strength the team and the belief that Wilder instilled into them why we have ended up where we are, this season everything that could have gone wrong has, so to get rid would be foolhardy.

Both parties need to get their heads together and come reassess the plan, Wilder may need to accept some adjustments to the structure but if Wilder is involved in this then some sort of plan and way forward could be paved.

I think we will look back on this as a huge mistake, and we will probably be asking for him back once we’re in League One again, and he is plying his trade at Stoke or Barnsley or some other no-mark club in the upper echelons of the 2nd tier.

No doubt we need change, but one is about to come which is inevitable, our league. We need to test the waters there with a full squad.

We need these things from both the board and Wilder:

Wilder - Commit to a DoF and be more flexible, both tactically and off the field

The board - dont lose the faith and throw away our chances of promotion by selling the squad and/or sacking Wilder

And we have to remember, even in league 1 Southampton invested heavily in their academy. This has largely been the backbone behind their success. Meaning they can bring academy players in if needed and sell home grown for a lot of money.
