Bogle/cash

Tough one to answer. I think Jayden Bogle has the higher ceiling, he really is an exceptional talent at 20 years old. But it's taken half a season for Wilder to trust him and put him in - during that half a season we lost more or less every single game.

Cash hit the ground running at Villa and was immediately ready to make an impact there. Their trajectory isn't just down to him - clearly they made other great signings; Martinez, Barkley, Watkins - but he's been very good.

None of our summer signings hit the ground running and made an impact.
As a result, we're relegated. If we'd brought in Martinez & Cash instead of Ramsdale & Bogle maybe we'd not have gone on that terrible run.

V good point

Bogle was carrying an injury for the early part of the season, it wasn’t about Wilder trusting him

Cash has been good all season, but Bogle is starting to show his worth now - I think he could end up the better long-term (and he's 3 years younger).

I’m Somewhat annoyed that Bogle was kept out of the squad for four months when since he’s appeared he’s looked one of our most dynamic players. Would like an explanation on that from our management team when the dust of this season has settled.

I'll answer on their behalf... We've got a great player in his position and won't change the formation..

I would argue we had a great full back trying to play wing back in that position.. and even if you didn’t feel Baldock should not have been dropped it still doesn’t explain why Bogle wasn’t even on the bench...

Agreed about the bench 👍 or even played on the left

A friend of mine know Cash and apparently Villa‘s offer was double the wages so we weren’t even at the races

but cant be so ive got plenty of experts on the Brewster thread. laughing at me when i mentioned that wages wise we've on it on the cheap as we arent in the same ball park.

as i always say with Callum Wilson we couldnt even match what Bournemouth had been paying him

As someone stated earlier in the post! Bogle was carrying an injury when we signed him. Also although Boldock flatters to deceive! Bogle had to wait for his chance ,hopefully he is taking it with both hands.Boldock will push him and that can only be good for the team.

In answer to the question, no.

Because neither Cash nor Bogle were going to displace Baldock straight away. And in a season that has largely been a shitshow, Baldock has been solid enough.

Basically, we didn't have a problem at RWB to start with, so Cash wouldn't have dug us out of this. Maybe Barkley in our midfield would have done, but we don't pay 80k pw for players, end of.

Cash isn't as good as last seasons baldock

I don't think he would have got in if we'd signed him Baldock is class

Baldock isn't as good as Cash. He's not a great wing back.
A very solid defender, yes. Great attitude, tenacious, good defensive positional sense, great engine etc.

But put Baldock in the final third and 9/10 it's a nose bleed. He slows play down, makes wrong decisions, puts in poor / slow deliveries, on the odd occasion an opportunity falls to him he snaps at his shot and misses.

I like Baldock a lot. But ask Villa fans if they think Cash is worth the money they paid & I'm confident they'll tell you who he is.
Baldock isn't anywhere near that level. Wilder wasn't chasing him at £10m to be cover.

I've seen villa play perhaps a dozen times and apart from a cross to the back post from quite far out I've never noticed him either defensively or offensively

He's average no where near the form baldock was in last season defensively or bogle this season offensively
