Brewster

I think he is doing all the right things. Look at this picture posted by Bergen Blade in the Didzy 100 Games thread.
The lines show possible passing options that Didzy could have taken instead of which he lets off a wild shot.

Look at Brewster, great position, on his toes to run in. Gets no service so according to his critics, 'does nothing'

I've watched him in the highlights and he is often in space, often in the box and looking for the ball to come in. The problem is that it doesn't. It's a problem we have as a team and one reason why none of our forwards are scoring goals, it's not down to him being "rubbish". We simply do not play a tactical game of feeding the forwards in the box with through balls, we try to pass our way in from the flanks or loft hopeful crosses from wide. Whilst both these can work, they aren't for us at the moment, which I think is down to a lack of confidence to take defenders on for the former and low quality crosses for the latter. We then end up resorting to long range shots.

I agree. We very rarely look for or even see very obvious forward passes down the middle. We always always look to go wide.

He’ll get better, especially next season when we should have more possession / chances than this one. He’s very young, in my opinion at the time when Everton signed DCL he was completely overpriced and we’d done well to get £1m. How wrong I was! Let’s not make the mistake with Brewster and let’s give him the chance to blossom

Bogle cracks me up, what's he doing up there!? The only RWB I've seen with a free role. He'll pop up left wing forward doing pirouettes and stepovers then looks perfectly nonchalant as he trots back to check back in at RB for a bit, then off he goes again. Maverick

similar to kieron freeman but better quality obviously being encouraged to go roaming by cw/ak and think he could play any one of 4 different positions might be a job to hold on to him this summer

Totally agree...even prospects show glimpses of ability....I do hope we are all wrong but he could end up being a worse (heaven forbid) investment than Ramsdale....it stinks of the Woodburn debacle but this time for record fee money....I’m not sure how everyone keeps falling for these Liverpool transfer market tactics....
I reckon Ramsdale will prove to be a sound investment. Brewster though, I just can't see what he offers. He's not quick, has no physical presence, doesn't seem to have a strikers instinct- looking like our worst ever signing based on money spent.

Doing all the right things... You're having a laugh 😂😂😂 that has to be absolutely smashed at him to get there before the defender in front of him and his atrocious touch which was evident throughout the game would have seen any pass like that end up near the corner flag... We've signed a dud it happens

That was kind of my point sharp is not fast enough for the prem but he's faster than brewster
I don't think he is.

Billy is slow.

He's slow over 10 yards and certainly slow if he tries to break from the half way line.

Where Billy is fast, is up top. He has the striker's instinct (Greaves/Lineker/Edwards) where he can do bugger all in a game, only have three touches, and come off carrying the match ball.

I'm not saying Brewster has that yet, but looking at some of the goals he scored last season, he certainly has that potential.

I disagree Billy will score goals at any level but his lack of pace means he's not quite good enough for the prem, Billy's talent with burkes pace would be some player

Brewster has neither, I've watched most teams a few times this season and I'd say he's currently the worst striker in the Premier league bar none, he literally has nothing to offer

'Nothing'?

Wow, that's a call. I'm now wondering why the current title holders rated him and how he managed to fluke a goal in every other Championship game last season.

Still, as you say, you've watched him a 'few times', so you must know best....

Far too early to judge IMHO.

The lad is 20 and has joined an injury hit team that has been found out.

Lack of punctuation aside, 'dog shit' is beyond harsh.

He's our player.

How would you feel reading you character assassination f he was your son/brother/mate?

Sorry Shakespeare, can you do that last bit again in English please

If he was on 30k per week I wouldn't care less and its not a character assignation is it, I've not mentioned his character just his clear lack of ability

The thing we have done under Wilder is sign the right players for the right positions for the right style and the right tactics that we play.

This seems to have continued but then he's changed our style of play.

So we're left with a whole squad that looks wrong, a squad where if somebody has a 6/10 game he's a worldbeater

I have a lot of sympathy for Brewster ,who must feel like he’s been chucked into the eye of a storm . At this stage of his career it was clearly the wrong move at the wrong time and has backfired badly both for him and for us .

Having said that , I have yet to see any aspect of his game which points to the fact that he will turn out to be a highly rated striker , let alone an outstanding one .

I strongly suspect that , had he been a product of our own academy rather than someone we had paid over £20 million pounds for , the most we would have seen of him so far would have been a couple of 15 minute cameo roles and that tells it’s own story .

If I saw the odd piece of skill/talent and he did sod all the rest of the game I could live that. A bit of magic that makes a chance or gets us off our feet. Not seeing that so I expect more work ethic.

Quite simple for me as a footballer - if you are talented and show individual flair or moments I can kind of live with laziness (Hodges, McDonald, Blake etc) at times or not running around as much as others but if you do not do those things then I expect to see the work ethic,,

Maybe I am looking at it too simplistic.

I get Blades still often look for hard workers over sheer talent and maybe we should not but the reality is that for the most part is what we have been. I'd love to see more technical players but my point is even the best players put lots of effort in - see Kane or Vardy.

Just winds me up when players are stationary a lot and then show little when they have the ball.
At his age they worked that hard they were at stocksbridge and orient FFS. Grow up man.

You need to fast forward this 2 seconds , He fell over his laces ..............again !

I agree. We very rarely look for or even see very obvious forward passes down the middle. We always always look to go wide.

Yet when we did in a recent match Lowe of all people runs onto the through ball in the box and hits the cross bar. We need more of this from the players feeding the forwards, obviously with the ball on target.

Brewster has won the World Cup (won the golden boot as well) won the Champions League and won the Premier League. We can all see its not really working out but with that sort of pedigree cant we just put him out to stud? By rights we'd get pick of the litter and a percentage of the profits! Could be a game changer! Not quite Man City or Chelsea, think Liverpool....

i think we have to wait for next season in the championship to judge brewster hes certainly not premier league class but with the outlay weve paid out in him we have to give him at least 3 months at a lower level and with us playing a more exspansive system hopefully he will come good mind its 50-50 for me which way it goes

Some of you seem to take far too much pleasure in slagging our players off !

Who’s gonna be the whipping boy tonight ?
