Last season was a huge overachievement but it also wasn't a fluke. It was because we had good players playing good football. I'm sure adapting to the Prem has been a learning curve for Wilder and I back him to do the job. Tactically, I thought we had it spot on last night. It was the players who couldn't get through the game without blowing up.

Love how we can definitely judge Wilder not good enough for the Premier league because of this season. But we mustn't use last season as evidence he is good enough. I mean obviously this season is so normal and not unusual at all so it makes sense to dismiss everything else and judged him purely on this season.

The harsh reality is, or at least imho anyway, that without more investment staying up for more than the odd season will be difficult whoever is in charge.

I'm loathe to get too positive about next season because this is Sheffield United we're talking about.

We should have the nucleus of a very good Championship squad who with Wilder stand a good chance of coming back up. I've been of the opinion for years that we should be aiming to be a yo yo club like West Brom and Norwich.

However, we've got friends of the manager sowing division seemingly, and we can't be sure what the squad will look like.

There should be reason to be hopeful about next season but this is Sheffield United we're talking about and I've been around a bit too long to take anything for granted.

Unless the club can make funds available for a budget that isn't one of the lowest 3 or 4 clubs in the league, then it will always be difficult, regardless of manager.

Wilder needs to more shrewd next time in his recruitment. What Wilder did this summer was go for too much youth over experience. We needed one or two experienced players and not necessarily from the PL either.

For example once we knew Lunny wasn't signing a new deal then wheels should have been in motion to snap up Besic.

I would say stick with Wilder but I see no evidence that he has learned anything in the sense that we have not adapted our approach in:

Recruitment
Tactics
Coaching
etc.

If we don't we will inevitably fail again in my opinion and he risks being seen as another Warnock.

Definitely back him, but he'd have to be more open to receiving advice. We'd need to invest heavily in our scouting infrastructure & improve our facilities. These things have & will continue to hold us back.

As posted above on recruitment, he rarely get his top targets, always 2nd 3rd sometimes 4th options , not gonna have a pop at the prince because with the level of his wealth he’s done what he can ... but we need a bigger budget to not only compete but just to stay up !

Last season alone shows us he is capable in the Prem, this seasons a complete wildcard with injuries and covid, we'd be fucking mad to sack him if/when we get back up.

People can slate his recruitment but we all knew we couldnt afford to sign proven players and then unfortunately with injuries we needed them all to hit the ground running which was always going to be hard with new young players. Give this team a confidence building season in the champ and they'll all come back stronger and we should be able to survive and start to compete.

If we sack him or he leaves we'll be back in div 3 before you can say Dean Hammond

I think this is a board level issue rather than Wilder - my thinking (and many others) feel the board may have set a brief to go for players with high resale potential - rather than proven players. In reality we need a mixture of both - one eye on the future, one eye on today
