I was reading the football league paper 1.50 it cost in shop on a sunday it says behide the paper Micky Adams may offer Dave Bassett a role at the club it would be nice.

Thoughts Please guys.

I was thinking today, wouldn't it be great if everything in the world was edible? That way, if you're feeling a bit peckish, you could pick up a rock off the floor and feed yourself. Everything need not taste great, after all that's what Hendo's is for.

Thoughts please guys.

Bassett back? No thanks, he had his time and i think Micky & Corky can do well enough without him

dont think it would be that bad a thing, but maybe a bit too many old faces been linked with the club at the moment at a time where a bit of freshness is needed at the lane.

Great in his time but a footballasaurus these days.

I don't like hearing him on the radio because my childhood managerial hero just sounds like an idiot now. :(

Yesterday's man. Never talks fondly of us. Suggested a merger. Waste of a salary.

Thanks for the memories Dave. Let's leave it at that.

I think £1.50 is a very reasonable price for such an august publication.

I only posted the info as i saw it ,could be true no need of saying things to me in a bad way guys.We are all fans of Blades.

Can't believe some of the comments here!
Bassett should be welcome any time he wants to come back!

For what purpose would you pay him upwards of £100K per year, presuming he'd want that to get out of bed?

Whilst I never mentioned salary, payment of any kind etc !

Given that we pay Monty, Quinny, Hendo and Ched the obscene amount of wages every week I would think £100k per year would be a snip

Gave us some great times - but that was a long time ago. Not been impressed with him in recent years. He appears to find it hard to string a few words together in his rare media appearances and, disappointingly, gives the impression of having no feelings for the Blades at all. Let's remember him for the good times & leave it at that.

This was in the Sheffield Telegraph last week

After more strengthening on the field with the signing of Michael Doyle, Adams has “not ruled out” a key role for Bassett as part of his backroom team.

The new Blades boss regards “Harry” Bassett as his mentor, having coached under him at Nottingham Forest before they worked in tandem at Leicester where Adams stepped up to take charge.

Although the two men have yet to discuss a reunion, Adams regularly uses Bassett as a sounding board and is open to the idea of them working closely again on a more professional footing.

Bassett, now 66, is unlikely to uproot from his family home in the south but is still closely in touch with the game, having assembled countrywide contacts after managing seven clubs.

Asked about the possibility of a reunion, Adams told the Telegraph: “I can’t say that for definite but I’d never rule it out.

“Harry is getting older and enjoying his life, his holidays, his family. He’s on holiday at the moment and there’s more to life than football.

“We’ve not had that discussion yet.”

But you can only guess that Bassett would welcome some kind of involvement bearing in mind his affection for the Blades and his affinity to Adams.

There is already a strong link to Bassett’s time at Bramall Lane - where he was at the helm between 1988 and 1995 - in Adams’ appointment of Alan Cork, a United striker of that era, as coach.

Bassett, who won back-to-back promotions with the Blades before establishing them in the Premier League during the club’s last sustained spell in the top flight, is unlikely to go back into management. As the Telegraph reported earlier this month, he turned down Port Vale and recommended Adams for the job he vacated to join United.

But a scouting and advisory brief seems more than feasible. Meanwhile, Adams expects midfielder Doyle, recruited from his former club Coventry, to make United stronger in an area of the field he regards as particularly crucial.

Nick Montgomery and Stephen Quinn laid solid claim to the territory last weekend, meaning that Doyle won’t be an automatic choice when United return to action at home to Leicester on Tuesday.

Adams said: “Michael is the sort you want in the trenches with you. He’s a good passer of the ball but is also the type who is very competitive and never knows when he’s beaten.

“Midfield is an important area for us and there’s good competition there with Lee Williamson as well. I’m looking for people to step up, perform and keep the shirt. After the disappointment of losing Leon Britton, Michael Doyle fits the bill.”

Adams is still “open minded about recruitment because there are certain areas we need to improve on.” But he feels that, regardless of the result, a performance standard was set in the unlucky defeat to Norwich.

“The players responded to the atmosphere the fans created and we were the better side for long periods,” he said.

From what I've heard there's definitely some substance in the story. Like most people on this thread so far, I can't see what he'd offer us. A true legend but seems way out of touch now and said we should merge with the pigs.

Confirmed on the Text and OS

This is a backward step as I think Bassett is out of touch nowadays, but if it works all good, if it doesn't then save the consultancy fee and get loanee instead.

Return of the Hoof Pinchy?

look at liverpool ? ? King Kenny

we have Harry back let the good times come flooding back ! !

though the last time he came we went down 1st ?

with the greatest respect, i'd suggest there is a world of difference between kenny dalglish and lord of the long ball bassett??.. in fact why don't we totally push the boat out and get John Harris back.. (sorry John.. RIP mate..just making a point)

Has anyone got Brian Deane's phone number?!!!

As much as I don't think Harry will bring anything to the table, the stick that the bloke is getting on here is a disgrace.

"On a largely unspecified consultancy basis"

Micalijo's clearer about what Batho does than what SUFC seem to be about what Harry will do!!

Let's forget the style of play, we need whatever it takes to get us some wins, and focus instead on the motivational impact that Bassett has had throughout his career. Some players can't hack it, particularly the glamour boys, but grafters normally respond well and most of our lads are in that category. And he's also got a good network of contacts - another Deano would be nice!!

Bassett took the club through the leagues and kept us in the premiership
in what was some of the best times at the club Deane Agana Bradshaw Gayle Bryson Stancliffe Hodges Kelly Tracey Gage Duffield Hoyland Beesley Whitehouse Ward

no arm in him coming back if it gives the club a lift

Maybe we should arrange a Christmas party at the lane for friday

Prophits around I guess welcome back Bassett.

Perhaps he will play Corky up front though.

Who is the zone man?

then we'll have proper hoofball back.. a step backwards from hoofy blackwell.. is that possible??

Did it ever go away?:)

I've no doubt that Harry will be a bit confused about what he is doing, judging by the nonsense he now spouts every now and again on Sky etc.

This has to be a sick joke doesn't it?

Has Dave Basset got a Limited Company? If he is self-employed he could invoice SUFC for services rendered and pay corporation tax. No national insurance on dividends he then takes out of Hoofitlongandfar Ltd.

Too right. Some posters seem determined to display their lack of class. Mr B is a top fella.
