8 wins 2 draws and 6 defeats takes us to 37 points

Should be enough

Of the games remaining last season we won 8 and drew 3
The last 10 fixtures we have last season we won 7 drew 2 and lost 1

So it's not that far fetched
Start this weekend with another 3-0 v chelsea

Pick the 8 wins and 2 draws...

CHELSEA
WEST HAM
FULHAM
LIVERPOOL
SOUTHAMPTON
LEICESTER
VILLA
LEEDS
ARSENAL
WOLVES
BRIGHTON
SPURS
PALACE
EVERTON
NEWCASTLE
BURNLEY

I think we can win 7 (ones in green).

Hate that it’s out of our hands and we have to obsess over Brighton and Newcastle results. Newcastle get Southampton on Saturday with two players red carded last night and they are out of defenders. Reckon we will fall short but go into next season with very positive momentum which will feel ok.
We can only do what we can if we get to 35 to 38 points history says we stand a great chance. Newcastle as we all know are great at collapsing . Brightons just won their first home game. I don't obsess over them they are capable of snatching a relegation spot as they are often down there

Saints are in an injury crisis as highlighted at man Utd last night
We will beat Villa .
They struggled to beat our 10 men at their place they need help to beat us
Arsenal struggle at bramall lane
They look brittle at times
I'd be happy going into the last 2 needing 4 points to stay up
Draws at west ham and spurs neither have frightened me

Every single one is beatable if we have it in us. Even Liverpool have been flakey.

Villa probably the toughest out the lot at the moment.

Yes I'm dosed up on deludamol this morning.

Form guide
To stay up we need to win half of our games
Guess what we are doingView attachment 104619
Looking at this, in the last 6 games we've gained 6 points on Newcastle, 5 each on Fulham and West Brom and 2 on Brighton and 0 on Burnley... We are 10 points from Brighton and 11 from Newcastle. If current form continues, it'll be a last game shoot-out.....

It’s 30 years to be fair and it’s an entirely different era now in its own right. For comparison purposes I don’t see the issue as there’s not a lot of relevance of the years before that.
So we're naturally a lower half Championship club at best seeing as everything before 1992 is irrelevant?

I'd be interested to see those stats but I've have us as a naturally mid table championship side against our all recent and relevant criteria.

No, even with the upswing in form it is not realistic.

Can't afford any dip in form and would need to finish the season with results replicating something like a top-6 side.

I have said it before, if there is one side that would be able to do it, it sure is this one! That being said it is really not possible or realistic. The amazingly poor start sealed the deal a long time ago.

I'd swap Everton away for Southampton at home, but agree bar that. West Ham and Villa also possible points pick ups.

I hope you will indulge me in a little story of finding hope where there wasn't any.

Me and the late Ms Crab were mates for quite a while before we actually got together. The fella she was seeing initially, archetypal good looking Italian bloke, long hair, all that bollocks. Then there was me, going bald, monumental middle age spread, very much lacking in confidence. I was the equivalent of the Blades, he was the ten point gap. Course I fancied her, but she seemed as unobtainable as that gap seems.

Then, she wasn't................

Every day, I tried to be the best me I could be, and over time, things grew, the effort paid off.

Even now, over two years after she passed, I think of those times and tell myself "I tried, I did my best"

I guess my cack handed point is this. Sometimes, you aren't as good as what you are up against. But you try don't you? You put your heart into something, then little by little the gap decreases between the possible and the impossible.

You might not always get there, and sometimes, as I have learned, you end up with a broken heart.

But still we try, don't we?

Thats all I ask of our team. Whatever happens at the end of the season, if they can look in the mirror, as I often have, and say "I tried" then when it all comes down to it, thats all you can ask.

I still think we need to work on a game by game basis, the focus needs to be on keeping the performance levels where they are now. 2nd half last night was good. Previous 2 league games were good. We need to carry on.

Great post Crab.

Get this pinned in the dressing room Chris!!

Be an interesting game as I think Newcastle have run out of defenders too

We've got to rely on someone going on a really bad run, looking like Newcastle being that team who are a Wilson injury away from dropping off a cliff.

If it gets to the final day, goal difference is going to be massive. As crap as we've been, we've not been getting the pastings that West Brom have been getting. Burnley have scored fewer goals than we have so are still ripe for getting sucked back in if they get a few bad results.

ignore the table, focus game by game, see what happens come May.

It's not impossible but it's also very unlikely. Stats and examples can be picked out to support either argument. Look at Southampton last season as another example, by the point they lost 0-9 to Leicester they looked down and out. From that game onward they had the form of a top 4/5 team. That kind of upswing in form can be done and is seen time after time, our issue is that we are reliant on the form of others too where usually when these turns in form happen they slip under the radar as its often a mid-table team that just ends up finishing higher mid table instead.

Beat chelsea we could go 18th if west brom and fulham dip
Psychologically be a massive boost
This really. First priority needs to be getting off the bottom of the league. I was focussed on getting to 19th and was disappointed when results the other day meant we couldn't do it with our win last night. However, there's a good chance we spring from 20th to 18th in one go now. If we suddenly become the team best placed to get itself out of the bottom three that would be a huge psychological boost. We suddenly become the team others down there look out for in the results. Bit mad to even think that considering how adrift we were a few weeks back.

The only thing I agree with Allardyce about is that we need to take care of ourselves and aim for 38 points somehow. We can’t affect other results.

Yes, our unprecedentedly poor first half of the season has left us looking for somebody else just above the bottom 3, to hit a big slide somewhere along the line in the second half of the season.

As many observers say, though, it is certainly the sort of thing that can happen to teams in the Premier League due to the consistently strong opposition that you come up against.

It would be nice for a club to hit a run like the one that Palace had in the final 8 games of last season, when they lost 7 on the bounce and then drew their last match.

Beautiful, Mr Crab.

Loving the current rally, but after the early season embarrassment, I fear they might be looking in the mirror and saying "I could've done more".

We won’t catch Brighton. We need someone else to slump and we need to win every other game. Even the most optimistic Blades surely need to admit defeat.
Agreed, Brighton’s form is decent and I don’t see us catching them unfortunately. Also, as poor as Newcastle have been of late they have a couple of match winners in their squad and they are capable of pulling a result out of nowhere, like at Everton the other day. Again, I think the gap between us and them is insurmountable.

Without wanting to sound defeatist, I don’t think we can do. Simply cannot get away taking 2 points from the first half of the season and expect to survive. However, as others have said, at least it is enjoyable to watch us play again and if we can finish positively it can only help us next season. If the miracle happens, great, I’d certainly love to be proved wrong.

Realistically looking at a maximum 4 points out of the next 3 matches which would potentially put us even further behind. In all honesty it needs a miracle and we're going to have to start winning and drawing games like the Man Utds, Chelsea's and West Hams to have any chance but the momentum is there!

Maybe mate.

Maybe they're more bothered about their Lambos and their fake mates on Facebook / Instagram or whatever than about what some silly twat who punched above his weight and knows it thinks.

Or just maybe, they can look beneath all that, and remember why they picked a football up in the first place. That they aren't just living their dream, they're living ours too.

In life, whether you are a professional footballer, or an old fella who raises a few quid by having a walk around his garden, a clear truth abides.

You are remembered for what you give, not what you take.

If we turn back into the team we were pre-lockdown last season then we're a top half PL team. A top half PL team in the Championship would be a fun season next season!
