1. Mcburnie was not a waste of money. He was a key member of a team in which all eleven players systematically pressed and ‘defended’ from the very top of the pitch, and that team - with Mcburnie in it - played excellently and finished in a fantastic position in the league. He is out of goal-scoring form, low on confidence, in a team that is not playing well, but he was not a waste of 20 million. Our problems this season are as much about our difficulties in keeping clean sheets as our problems scoring goals.

2. Ramsdale was a sensible buy. We couldn’t have afforded whatever Henderson’s fee might have been, or wages, and he didn’t want to leave Man Utd permanently, so we were without a first choice keeper. He’s faced far more shots than Henderson by this time last year, and made some incredible saves. He’s a good ‘keeper. Henderson is better, but Ramsdale is a good player and we were right to buy him. It’s unfair to lay the blame for zero clean sheets this season at his door.
