Ramsdale’s little jump

Let’s hope Bournemouth go up and still fancy him. Next season we need to get Matty Ryan in.

I don't quite understand why Ramsdale is in the firing line after yesterday's performance, I assume he's the easy target. The 2nd and 3rd goal came about because of Norwood.

We have to be honest with ourselves this season, collectively the team this season is making to many mistakes leading to goals, last season we hardly made any and the defence was solid. Ramsdale this season has already made over half the saves Henderson faced all last season.

Let's stop scapegoating blades. It has to get through 10 other players before it gets to Ramsdale and he has not been blessed with a defence like Henderson last season.

I'd take Button or Ryan. The latter would be a massive improvement, the former would be a modest improvement. Won't happen though.

We haven't spent badly, Wilder has. And therein lies the problem!
Well yes - but his primary targets are going well in the premier league as we speak. So our wage structure, and the way this interacts with fees, needs some review, as comparable managers landed these targets.

Wilder has to shoulder a good degree of the responsibility - and maybe his insistence on having so much control is part of the problem. But we also shouldn’t consider that the overall failure is solely down to him.

Let’s not kid ourselves, Ramsdale isn’t good enough, he has little or no agility, no physical presence, he’s uncoordinated and is uncomfortable with the ball at his feet.

But the blame for this seasons shit fest doesn’t lie with him. It lies with the people who have researched, recommended and sanctioned his purchase. The same applies to McBurnie, Berge, Brewster and Mousett, over £100m wasted. Possibly Mousett has repaid his fee last season, but he’s not who you want at an elite football club. .

It’s our appalling recruitment that’s got us into this position. It’s quite a feat when you think about it. We’d assembled a promotion winning team, that took the Premier League by storm, for less than £10m. Then spent £100m and made that same team into the worst side in Premier League history?

What Wilders done, is basically won the lottery and then blown it all down the bookies. 🤯

The thing is , every single other team in the Premier League have got at least one , maybe two absolutely top class keepers that can win you a game , or keep you in one. How many times have we been thwarted by a goalkeeper pulling out save after save? Leeds & WBA spring to mind. We had one for the last 2 years and it showed. Now we don't.

Couldn't fault this. How much are we paying the shower who are "in charge" of recruitment? We should start with binning and replacing them.

Is there anything you’re not an authority on?

Full time goalkeeping coach originally, taught Gordon Banks, Peter Shelton, but he peaked with Carl Muggleton who was so impressive when he came to us, we played him upfront not in goal, so good was CQ’s coaching.

He’s now moved on to a more general role in life, dispensing knowledge everywhere he goes and making a difference.

Hi Stegosaurus here,

I agree. When we look at the cash we've spaffed away, and then there's Brentford signing good young players like Baptiste and Fosu---why we weren't in for them is beyond me. I guarantee they'll be premier league players in a couple of seasons. Forss who came through their academy looks like he's gonna be a player too.

With the value of hindsight Ramsdale probably should have stayed at Bournemouth for a season in the Championship for the experience.

Better make that the england set up as well !Ramsdale is the current 21 keeper !!!

He was also Bournemouth players of the season last year, despite the fact every time I watched them his performances were as nervy and lacking as much confidence as this season.

I know his confidence is shot, but even so he’s the only keeper I’ve ever seen that doesn’t seem to be good at anything...

The Ramsdale situation confuses the hell out of me. He just doesn't look or play like a specialist keeper. He plays like an outfielder who's been put in goal cos the keeper has been sent off.

He just seems to get so much of the fundamentals of goalkeeper wrong. He is often out of position when the ball is played through or passed back to him in a rush. He looks hopelessly lost on corners. He flaps at crosses. You never feel comfortable with him coming out and catching a ball - you always expect him to spill it or at least parry it. Generally when he's beaten he's nowhere near saving the ball. Its not like he dives and gets a finger tip but it just creeps in off the post. It's like he dives a split second too late and is quite a distance from touching the ball - as you would expect of an outfield stand-in goalie.

I'm confused because, surely the folk that have paid good money for him, coached him and play him in games can see exactly what I can see. So how the fuck is he anywhere near playing at the level he is? He wouldn't look out of place on the Arbourthorne playing fields, he really does look that bad.

You can see that other teams have noticed that the lads confidence is gone, spurs were shooting from anywhere and callum Wilson was on him every time he had the ball in his hands.Other teams managers have identified him as a weak link

If you were managing a team against us you would say on any free kick corner, pack the area and float the ball into the 6 yard box because the keeper isn't coming for it or if he does he's dropping it

I feel sorry for the kid, but that's no reason to keep him in the team. He's not winning the team any points, in the same way Tracey, Kelly, Kenny and Hendo used to.

I don't think Ramsdale is dropping almighty howlers every game, he just seems to be conceding goals that I think he should do better with. I missed the first goal v Spurs, but the second Kane has hit it from outside the box and look where the ball hits the back of the net, it's not right in the corner, to me a good goalkeeper would have saved that. Third one I don't think many if any would have saved. However, i think back to the opener v Wolves, look where the ball ends up, again not right in the corner and he should be saving those. That seems to happen a lot with him.

He's not the only reason for how the season is panning out but he is one of them.

On the recruitment point, I've just spent 15 mins over lunch looking at a few of Bournemouth's goals conceded last season on youtube and its crystal clear that the keeper in question would not be worth spending £18m on. I mean seriously, what level of research and due diligence was conducted? Was there any?
