I know its already being done to a certain extent, but what about paying every player in the squad at this level the same (say £3000/week) which aint a bad wage, then if they get promotion pay a big bonus, thus rewarding success, this gives them an incentive to perform every week, and more a sense of 'togetherness' to perform for each other because their all earning the same. The future?

I am with you the basic premise but I think it would be very hard to find players capable of promotion with that starting level of salary.

huh wunt get out of bed for that.
Now if we payed more like the level Swiss got payed, we may have a chance:D

Good idea in theory, but in practice no-one would want to sign for us. Only two teams get promoted so the odds are against it. Majority of players will go for a bigger basic wage as otherwise it's too much of a gamble. Mind you, many of them like the odd flutter so it might be the ultimate bet for them.

I get an annual performance related bonus but the company is also promising a 6 month salary additional bonus if we hot first gas on 1st Oct. It's focused all the staff into delivering on time.

My boss has proposed to senior management that our department can take on the Quality part of another major project, I said I would step up to working at 70% of my capacity if we got the extra work.

Just means i'll spend less time on the forum during the day. Some of you lot don't know you're born :)

I'm all for performance/ success related bonus schemes, if players don't perform they get hit in the pocket. They should be individual and team related. Trouble is that players will always take the easy dollar - and why shouldn't they

Thats what happens with Silverfox and Shorehamview

I fucking wish.:D

I work for a small firm in Derbyshire. I work more hours than anyone else at our firm. The main bonuses are the chance to work outside occasionally and get rained or snowed on.

Jimmy Hill kindly fucked that up years ago im afraid,

Why would they sign that contract? They would just go to other clubs instead.

Exactly. Let's imagine the scenario, for the hard-of-thinking.;)

The player, let's call him, ooh, Harry Handyplayer, is out of contract at the end of the season.

Club A, Northern Enthusiasts, offer him three grand a week and performance-based incentives. Win and there's another five grand. Score, and another two grand. Promotion, and you get a spin on the wheel of fortune that's hidden behind the kitman's magic locker.

Club B, Southern Shandyistas, offer eight grand a week. No bonuses, just the solid basic wage. Every week, win, lose, draw, sit on bench, injured, stay at home playing Buckaroo, whatever.

Where will our player go? The great majority would take the guaranteed cash. And so would most of us.

Not if all the clubs got their heads together and agreed to the same scheme. In my industry the wage rates are roughly the same among the competitors, this stops a lot of people moving from firm to firm. If everybody agrees, why shouldn't it work?

Why would ALL the clubs ever get together when some benefit from having the ability to pay more?

Because all the clubs aren't going to agree to it. Are clubs like Man City going to agree to this? Will they be happy that players they can easily pay the highest transfer fee for and best wages to may go to a competitor? No. It only takes one club from the hundreds in the world to opt out of the system to make it unworkable, and you get the system we already have.

In an ideal world it would work, but in an ideal world I'd be shagging Jennifer Aniston. And the lovely Christa Ackroyd, of course.

Because if football carries on paying the wages it currently does, its going to blow up some day, and those who currently have the ability will be the ones who suffer the most.

You credit the money-mad Premier League with more common sense than I do. :)

Man City are owned by mega-rich Arab chaps who won't be worried where the money comes from until long after their oil wells run dry. They can spoff away money like it's going out of fashion. A bit of small change at an English football club isn't going to worry them, so why should they be financially prudent? Don't forget these blokes have so much money that they make the billionaire Roman Abramovich look tight. They don't give two fucks that other football clubs struggle, or might go out of business entirely, because they can afford to pay players like Yaya Toure 200k a week.

It's going to be interesting to see what happens when the UEFA financial fair play rules kick in. Will they have the balls to ban clubs from European competition or will there be some kind of fudged compromise or even legal challenges through the European courts? I can't see City even coming close to complying with their present commitments so maybe they've spotted a way round the rules already.

Yaya Toure will get a job as Oil Well Monitor, paying roughly 200k per week. He will be allowed to check oil wells from his luxurious Cheshire mansion. Carlos Tevez will become Cultural Attache to Manchester, and the rest will take on lucrative careers as Car Park Attendants for Manchester City. All will, of course, donate their spare time to their new hobby of Premier League Amateur Football.

I remember reading somewhere (sorry, no link, it was a while ago and I'm too lazy to google it), that when the financial fair play rules were first announced 2 UEFA places would have gone to Championship clubs if the rules had been in place at the time, because 16 of the 20 Premier League clubs would have failed the test (I think they've modified the rules since then, the original plan was the club had to be earning as much as they were spending on wages & transfer fees combined but they've said you can make a £30million odd loss now, or something).

I can't see City even coming close to complying with their present commitments so maybe they've spotted a way round the rules already.

As far as I'm aware the rules only prohibit entry into European competitions? It would be interesting if one of the minted teams in one of the leagues (like Man City) decided they weren't bothered about Europe and just carried on blowing money on players and wages. They'd have the financial clout to buy just about anybody they wanted and offer wages far beyond what other clubs could offer and they'd have to play less games per season than the clubs who are abiding by the rules. They could, in theory, dominate domestic competitions.

It could only take one club to do it in one league before a host of clubs around Europe with rich owners think "fuck it" and dump the European cups.

Don't Real Madrid and AC Milan also make huge losses every year? Would UEFA have the balls to exclude a club of that stature? I think the whole thing is doomed to fail.

Can I ask then, what level of your work capacity you are currently at, you lazy swine? ;-)

About 50% on a good day.

Lazy? Its not my fault that the company only pays me enough for me to work at half capacity. :)
