Brewster

I'm beginning to understand CW's quote now when he said that he believes the last transfer window was probably his best ever. He was buying for the future in getting Bogle, Lowe and Brewster without the knowledge of where we would be now. As they say, 'hindsight is a wonderful thing'. I expect he was considering we would do well to match last year's point total, but would settle for mid table without being involved in a relegation dogfight. Players he brought in would be blooded into the squad gradually and to realise their full potential for 21/22 season. But the best laid plans don't often work like that especially with the injuries we've suffered. Anyway, we can't put the clock back now and I for one is very happy with the players mentioned above.

if we do go down which looks likely brewster will come in to his own in the championship where we are certain to have more than 30% possesion im confident he would bag 20 plus goals
Also in the Championship McBurnie will be one of if not the most dominant player in the air and Sharp would probably still hit a goal in every 2 games. I hope it doesn't happen as it turned out the Premier League isn't the land of milk and honey but it's still the place to be.
"All my life I've been searching for a world like this, now I've found it I just want to destroy it."

for what we paid and the hype that preceded him its probably the most under whelming buy of them all
I was expecting non stop movement , a willingness to run himself silly
putting the fear of god among opposition defences
what McBurnie lacks in quality he compensates with total effort and leaves nothing on the pitch
Brewster so far has failed to catch the eye,
this has to alter , think Ive seen 2 maybe 3 decent passes in his entire run out so far

Don't really want to say it, but if we do go down. We have a good team for that league and should be challenging to get straight back up. Might be a yo-yo team like west brom lol. Still not as bad as them dirty blue n white c€¥nts. Wouldn't mind smashing them for 6 points either lol.

That's not a bad thing
Our squad either in the prem or in the upper echelons of the championship needs building up over time.
We are not blessed with endless funds
We went from an average league 1 squad to a prem team in 3 years.
Quality costs money. Being a yo yo team means we get funds as a prem team or with parachute cash. Always nice to

Unfortunately, effort and what he leaves on the pitch isn't enough in the Premier League. Granted Brewster can give more but he also has undoubted ability and quality that McBurnie doesn't have. He needs to settle in and work harder to get into those positions, I agree with that BTL. We can't carry passengers while we are in this position, everyone needs to give everything they have but in the end they have to show some class when it is needed. Unfortunately, McBurnie and Burke are falling short in this area. I like Burke, and his pace and workrate are great, just wish he could finish. But then he would have cost us a fortune if he could !! I think Burke could play the wing back role with his work rate and pace and his ability to get up and down the pitch, his passing in the final third would also bring the forwards into the game too.

Why is Brewster’s quality “undoubted”?

If Burke could finish he'd be a bigger, younger Vardy... but he can't.
He's only 23 though (which is crazy) and he hasn't played up front for long, so there is huge room for improvement.

No idea with Brewster to be honest. He shows some moments of class but where does he fit? He's not enough of anything at the moment to demand a start.

I have high hope for him, and I'm obviously not writing him off at all, but..

If highlight reels didn't exist (and they are mainly of international youth matches and Championship games)
His transfer fee wasn't known, or better still he had come through our academy, would anyone be clambering for him to get game time?

Purely on his showings so far, I would put him as 4th choice striker, and thats only because of how little we've seen of Billy and Moose.

Because you can see the quality of his first touch, his passing and his vision. He can also finish, 11 in 22 for Swansea I believe, and yes I know it was in the Championship but it’s still a good return. If we could add a lot more of a work ethic we would see what he really is. I really think he will come good but it needs to be soon.

I'd say there is a massive doubt about his quality at the moment, he's done next to nothing in the games he's played and looks slow, sulky and disinterested

Not for me. Not yet.

He’s barely touched the ball, so I couldn’t say there’s zero doubt about any of his supposed wualities

Sadly Wasablade some of these players will have got a release clause in their contracts should we be relegated and a few will have bailed out of the sinking ship before the start of next season leaving us with a different squad to what we have now.

Brewster was the wrong player at the time we needed a proven goal scorer with a good track record from either the Premier or European leagues, but more often than not and as we all know, those players are worth at least double what we paid for Brewster. However, he's our player now and I can bet your life he will be well worth his fee IF we go down. He will tear the Championship apart and should we come back up immediately, he will be a couple of years older, have more experience, have many more goals under his belt and will eventually become a top Premier striker. Sods law, bloody Klopp will then activate the buy back clause just to piss off Chris. Hopefully by that time, Rhian may have settled in the club, enjoying his football infront of our crowds and will tell Klopp to do one.

Liverpool are never going to activate the buy back clause, it was just a ruse to make us overpay

I don't understand it when people defend a players weaknesses by saying "If he could finish, he'd have cost a fortune"

Why bleeding buy him then ?

It's like buying a hammer made of chocolate or a washing machine made of strawberry jelly because it cost 10% less than a proper one.

It wouldn't do the job it was supposed to and you've paid 90% of what a real one would cost.

So why study a forward for 4-5 years, realise he couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo, but still buy him anyway.

If you watched Brewster in the U21's he played basically same for them as for us. Didnt look likely to get involved, expecting the ball to come to him etc. I dont think its that he doesnt fit in for us I just think he is at that pivotal point where he will either knuckle down and find his form or disappear down the leagues.

I'm pretty sure it's a smile of embarrassment as he is clearly incredibly talented and was one of our top performers (and biggest assets) and he's definitely struggling.

There has to be some underlying issue with his health/fitness or private life.
What that may be and when it's resolvable is debatable.

People forget that footballers are human beings. I would be delighted if he could get back to the JF we all know and love.

Valid point pal, but I think if wilder stays he will make a go of it. No matter who stays or goes I think he's no1 on the list who should stay. I was slating him when he first come but that was then lool.

If we keep kicking it over his head and playing 9 behind the ball he's not going to reach his potential!
I'm absolutely certain that when he scored enough to win the golden boot for England's u17 world cup win - they didn't boot it over his head.
For those comparing him to Burke... Burke is a completely different player, lightening fast who can press defences when the long ball is played in the Channel, but unfortunately wears chocolate boots when it comes to finishing.
Brewster has played minimal game time but I recall him playing one class through ball in recent games (too pissed to remember vs who) when it he put it on a plate - which we didn't take.
I just hope we begin to put it on a plate for Brewster, because once he breaks his duck the shackles will be off....

Gretsch Blade I agree with your post in general but this is rubbish:

That is the sum total of what he has done in (hold on let me get the stats) 4 starts and a total of 406 minutes played, one good pass.

It doesn't look good when you analyse it like that 8lade, but in fairness we'd probably played 390 min of those 406 defending! 😂

The days of football and overlapping CBs have been a distant memory this year and when RB signed I bet he didn't anticipate the amount of chances created that he's actually had... There's a player in there, but if we can keep 11 on the pitch and keep it moving around the deck like we have done recently he'll bag one....

Fleck always seems to find it funny when he's subbed. Not the ideal attitude for me.
During the pre-match huddle at Brighton, Fleck remained stood up and seemed not to take part. Wilder seemed to have noticed it and Fleck was substituted early in the game. It could of course have been completely innocent and his substitution could have been coincidental.

Yeah Fleck and McBurnie don't do huddles properly due to Celtic doing them seems a bit of nonsense to me but well I guess there's things I wouldn't do that everybody else would.
