I agree to a point. But we really are so far off what we know they can produce, and we aren’t set up to score enough to keep us in this league. Even if everything had gone ‘right’ this season, the performances would have merited what... one win and maybe 3/5 draws from 11 games. Call it 7 points? We’d still be in the drop zone

Wilder should just put on the Chelsea and spurs games from last season this week in training - see if that helps.

I agree to a point. But we really are so far off what we know they can produce

are we though , frustrating as it was when Fleck fucked it up on sunday
we were well worth the point on sunday up to that point, thats skys view point not mine

we look at the league table and yes its horrific for us
but in the last 3 games haller for west ham west broms goal and leicester first all benifitted greatly from a very kindly bounce and deflection
we are not getting one bounce go our way

the fulham goal he got 2 kindly bounces on his amazing run

It takes that deflection or piece of good fortune to turn situations round , always has been that way

its not all about luck but every team needs a share we do get luck , but all of it bad
like the first game behind closed doors when the infallible goal-line technology didn't work

Id say leeds could have gone our way we should have been 3 up v fulham by half time , could easily have won at west brom and yesterday so 10 points minimum

It would be the single biggest act of self sabotage Sheffield United have committed since commencing building a stand we couldn't afford, and going headlong to the fourth division. There are valid criticisms: not bringing in an O'Connell replacement and another midfielder? going too big on a GK? You simply cannot come so close to achieve perfection in decision making every year. The O'Connell one has fucked us as we simply don't have the squad to overhaul the system, We'd be murdered if we changed to four at the back. Chris Wilder is the best manager we can hope to get; his record of incredible achievements over the last 20 years proves this. The dozens of accounts with a few post suddenly becoming active show you what the "external" view of Wilder is: they're delighted to see him go and view this as a blip in his career .I've yet to talk to a Blade in real life who wants him to go.
My prediction is the same as when Warnock left: we will see League One before the Prem if Wilder leaves.

Completely agree, in terms of results and track record over the past few years he’s possibly earned the right to keep his job through this terrible period.

However if I’m the owner of a football club and my manager has spent millions of my money on 6/7/8 players that have failed I’m 100% questioning that regardless of how he’s performed in the past.

If we're sacking him because we think we can stay up, that might happen in the next fortnight.

If we're sacking him because we think he's lost the plot and he's the wrong man for the job though, that's a mistake.

With the injuries we've had at the back and the lack of finishing in front of goal, I don't really know what Chris could have done better. Happy to hear anyone's suggestions though of course.

For the record, it would take an absolute visionary in man management, self belief and confidence to turn our current form around. Is there anyone out there that we could hire better than Chris at that? Anyone who would fancy managing this set of grafters? Answer is no.

We had an unbelievable squad when we last went down from the Premier League and never even troubled the play offs all season.

I have really tried not to get involved in all these CW out type topics and have lurked so to speak but this post pricked up my ears.

Let's take your first line to start with shall we. Please list which players currently (this season) playing in The Championship walk straight into our starting 11???

Now to your second point. I don't know how old you were in 2007 when we last went down so i'll give you the benefit of the doubt. We went down with a good squad and spent a absolute fortune (relatively speaking at that time) in the summer. Beattie I believe was the record signing at that level at the time and the highest player ever at that level. On top of that we chucked £20k a week at Hendrie and Ehiogue along with other quite expensive signings. This all looks like a sure fire way to go straight back up again doesn't it?

Unfortunatly we then decided to employ one of the worst managers in history to oversee it all and look what happened. Keep Warnock that summer without any of the outlay and we go straight back up. Simple as that but KM wanted a "name" manager to hawk the club around the world.

Fast forward to now and let's look at things at hand. Yes our points tally is absolutely pathetic but I truly believe we could have quite easily been on another 6/7 points by now with the rub of the green so to speak. Some in our control and some not. I still think we're a better side now than Norwich were last season even though the points don't say so. With this in mind I'd be quite confident we would come straight back up once they inevitable is confirmed as I truly don't think there'd be an exodus of players.

Last season we had amazing momentum from the season before and a settled team all playing at the top of their game who knew how to play our way to an absolute tee. Injuries, suspensions and some drops in form this season have stopped that in it's tracks and shown that in reality we are just a bunch of championship players that massively over achieved last season under a fantastic manager.

I agree with this, you could argue that we might get battered with a back four, but as we're losing every week anyway, what have we got to lose?

At this stage does it make any difference if we lose 3-0 or 4-0 every week rather than 2-1 or 1-0? A narrow defeat doesn't really feel that much better than getting battered.

Our Chris looks as lost out there on the sidelines as any of the players out on the pitch.

He's losing confidence in himself at a rate of knots. I expect him to walk thinking he'd be giving the club he loves any chance of survival, as well as protect his own stock and not have "poorest PL team in history" at the top of his CV.

The ridiculous thing is if he'd have gone all out last season with the formation he wanted to we would have conceded more goals and probably finished lower than we did but we wouldn't have had to chop and change so much this season and spend so much more money.

I haven’t read all of this thread, but my honest feelings are, that I would rather go down with Wilder in charge, than stay up with any of the mercenary journeyman managers, who would be interested in taking his place.

Chris Wilder is the only manager who has the long term sustainability of the club at heart and as a supporter, I think that should be the number one priority. Ask any Bury fan?

For the simple reason that the Club has no money to spend in January , so what changes could an incoming manager make with no budget for fees & wages ?
It would be totally illogical to sack him at this point.
We are about to learn the extent to which HRH is prepared to subsidize the Club with his own money when it's on the slide.
It might well be smaller than you'd hope.
Interesting times ahead.

If our club has any long term vision then Wilder stays in charge. Is this season going as we hoped....Not in the slightest way. Are we going down....yes unless miracles do happen. Have we made mistakes in the transfer market.....absolutely. I'd rather be watching the blades playing premier league teams and losing than being where we were a few years back...Going to Walsall away.....at home playing Chesterfield....another poster mentioned our rapid rise...and that is spot on. We made great progress with a limited squad and resources. We spent money and have got a few things wrong. Mousset looked like an inspired purchase but there is something radically wrong there. We can rightly criticise Chris for a lot of others who are not up to par. But overall he should be given time to get it right and bring us back up. And I am not saying it's an immediate return. Maybe we need to change the system. But if we go down and keep Brewster and McBurnie. Burke who shows some promise with his pace. Sell Sander and recoup most of what we paid. Keep Egan and O Connell Ramsdale Baldock.....then it's just the midfield to overhaul and I would like an emphasis on younger stronger and athletic players. We came up but the age profile of our midfielders wasn't where we would like it to be. We need to identify players who can realise their potential and if they move on get a decent fee for. Well that is my tuppence worth....disappointed about the season so far but let's stick with Chris and give him the opportunity to fix the mistakes he has made.
