Sacking Wilder will be the biggest mistake the board could make.

I wouldn’t swap last season for the world. But our rise up the leagues was far too quick, we simply didn’t have the time to regenerate the squad in readiness for an assault on the Prem.
A squad that’s paper thin and as short on quality as ours, just can’t afford to have a transition season in the Premier league. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but both clubs who got promoted with us will be in a stronger more prosperous position than us next season. Yes they did it differently with Villa spending big and Norwich not spending at all. But our initial burst of success followed by poor recruitment has put us in a bad place.

We’re still only 2 wins away from getting out of the bottom 3, I can’t see where they’re coming from at the moment but there’s still 27 matches left to turn things around and I can’t see any of the other bottom few teams doing great at the moment for me to think it’s all over. We miss the fans, we miss Jack O’Connell but things will change. I still think a draw today against a top 6 team and we’d have been a little bit more positive but even without it I‘d definitely keep Wilder for this and next season and see what happens. The best season I ever had as a Blade was the 4th division season but the last few under Wilder have been pretty close so he gets my vote, if we stay up great but if not, so what, give him a season with the fans behind him and see the difference it makes. Players are a yard slow without the kick up the backside they get from us, Bramall Lane is intimidating with fans, not without, and refs get away with murder with no fan pressure on them to think twice about decisions (not that I should make a difference but it does) but it will change, if not this season, then next. Also who are you going to get Instead, Pep or Klopp I’d understand people might want a change but suggestions like Big Sam, not for me thanks. UTB

i just cant understand why he hasnt tried another system we dont do overlapping centre backs anymore so why not just go to a 4 or if we want to stay 3 at the back go 343 and just go for it play mousset brewster and either burke or mcburnie in a front 3 what have we to lose now this season i want to see the brave chris wilder back but he appears to be broken at the minute

Good points. Our success last year was based on:

• World class goalie
• Weird system that opponents found hard to get used to
• Very strong and stable defensive unit
• good positive football through the phases
• passionate and raucous home and away support
• goal glut from Mousse resulting in narrow wins
• goal glut from Lunny resulting in narrow wins
• not many injuries

None of these things have happened this season. Its been almost the perfect shitstorm of things to happen to us. What can go wrong will go wrong. And yet still we have been in touch in most games. Our recruitment has been expensive but hit and miss but we are still in with a shout of 4th bottom. We might strengthen key positions well in January. We might get JOC back sooner. We might go on a cup run. All is not lost.

Sentimentality aside - question for me is what prepares us best for next year back in the champ? Current regime + hangover, or a refresh? Both tasks are equal in magnitude. Wilder is already suffering being last season's overlapping wingback chip paper. Factor in an increasingly likely record breaking prem relegation, that's some confidence hit to take. Some real emotional inertia to handle with huge scrutiny.

Heart will always say stick and back Wilder. And I do. I'm a sentimental bastard and regard him a hero. However, if my brass was on the line, I'd have both eyes on next season and post Xmas looking to change bar a significant upturn.

The thing with it is, it soon becomes pointless whether we sack him or not. Surely the whole point of sacking a manager is to change your fortunes. The only reason we'd sack Wilder would be a) Is there a manager out there who can keep us up if Wilder can't? and b) how realistic is it that we can even stay up in the first place?

It gets to a point where there's no coming back from relegation, regardless of whether it's mathematically confirmed or not. At some point we have to decide whether to start planning for the Championship.

For me the question should be, who can give us the best chance of promotion next season rather than, who can keep us up this season?

It would be a bold move by the prince, to say that he's seen enough to suggest that we're just tactical tweaks away from success and that a change of management will lead that upturn in form?

For me, Wilder's track record over the past few years is proven and a change now wouldn't necessarily change anything and wouldn't necessarily lead to success at the level below. We have to realise and show some compassion that, like with the squad who are putting a foot wrong here at there at the moment, Wilder and Knill are also trying to learn at this level too - they have no more experience than the rest of the squad. IMO, you stay together, you fight together, come what may.

I'd trust noone more in Championship, by the way.

Now, sadly, "will Wilder walk?" There's a more concerning question that I don't even want to think about.
