Forget last season. Never happened.

We are mid-table Championship team, playing in the Premier. Simple as.
No Premiership quality. Impossible to compete.
Hard work and endeavour can't beat quality.
Summer signings didn't add quality.
Berge apart, neither did last seasons.
More Championship players.
People question formations. People question team selection.
Na. Simply don't have the quality.
And. January window will be irrelevant.
Planning for Championship, not Premier.
And we have the players for that league!

So despite finishing well above mid-table championship for three years on the trot, and improving the squad (not really the first team unfortunately) in the process, this is a mid-table championship team?

We'll find out at the end of next season.

how many championship sides would have got fewer than 1 point in 10 PL games?

I reckon at least 15, would have more than we do.

What hurts the most is that last season did happen, and we had the makings of a side that could easily have established itself in the PL. But we f*cked it up in the transfer window, signing Championship players who were not top end Championship players, and failed to add a bit of PL quality (which is what was needed, and what would have kicked us on).

Because we had done the hard part - surving the first season, relegation this season is almost harder to take (for me anyway).

I've just ordered a gallon of this off Amazon to be delivered to Shirecliffe c/o Mr C Wilder 🤔

You’re more than likely right. We proved last year that we can compete but when you take a couple of our better players out of the side we struggle. Call me deluded, but we could easily be sitting here on 10 points now, some of the performances have not been that bad. However, the players are now completely devoid of confidence. We have a much better squad than any championship side though in my opinion.

Fortunately that's not how it works. Amazingly the Championship table is settled by playing other championship sides.
When you look at our side just about everyone of those players has played and shined in the championship.
All of the first choice 11 that got us promoted are with us (bar Duffy and Henderson). Add to that : McBurnie, who has averaged more than 1 in 2 in the championship, Brewster who's averaged 1 in 2, Freeman, who's shone in the championship. Not sure how that makes us an average Championship team, we've been very critical of the fact we've only signed good championship players. Now we're saying they aren't good at that level..

Oh and then there's Lowe and Bogle

I'm still not sure why we have the (except Berge) caveat, to be honest.

the performances so far could probably equate to possibly staying up (say 17th) at the end of the season.

However, we’ve lost our game changers at the back in JOC and Hendo. And we haven’t never scored enough to compensate for this. If we keep lacking the individual quality to impact a game at both ends, I’m afraid this is the result. I just don’t see anyone stepping up and taking the chances we keep spurning.

I’m not saying we are an average championship side. (Though I question if this side would create enough to challenge at the top half of the table.) I guess my point is that there are lots of championship sides who’d have a better record than we do in our place.

we don’t have the individual quality to affect the result and win games. There’s no one stepping up to produce something (anything?). We have no match winners and that’s become clear - plenty of championship clubs can dig out results with a moment of inspiration. We don’t appear capable of that.

Yeah, but West Brom have just been promoted. Despite losing to them we created enough to win that game several times over. The difference in quality is pretty clear to see (between them and other Prem clubs, not us and them) , and that's against a side that got promoted.

This squad should be more than competitive in the championship.

Whos going to take the chances though. Over and over again we draw blanks - doesn’t matter who we play if we don’t have individuals capable to impacting the outcomes of a match.

I’m not saying we should be battering PL sides but we’ve spent 120m since we went up and have done zero to address that. West Brom have the one of worst defences in the league and we didn’t have the quality to punish that. Same with Fulham, we couldn’t score from open play.

We don’t have the squad to do anything but play this system - we are wedded to it. So I expect at Leicester we will rotate the strikers, put another sticking plaster in the gaping hole on the left side of defence and try again.

Some were at one time a little over eager to point out this all started at the end of last season, this was at a time when Henderson for one was still playing for us,
The sand seemed to run out for us around the time the atmosphere went flat due to the lack of fan participation, so for me the main cause of this problem has been just that, the lack of us'
We had a special bond with the team that unfortunately it will take a while to build again even when we're allowed back in , and anyone who thinks that taking their frustrations out on the Manager or players is going to make that happen any sooner is either living in Coco land or just out to cause mischief.
