Does it tell us anything about the state of the blades if, after all the publicity, SOD doesn't become our next manager?

Depends, if they talk to him and he turns us down then that's one thing. If we decide to appoint someone else then that's another.

What publicity? It's all speculation.
The Club hasn't made any official comments about him as far as I'm aware.

Not really, we know we're skint, we know we've got a threadbare squad that needs plenty of work, both could be reasons for anyone to turn us down. At the end of the day, for 'publicity' read 'speculation' and if SO'D does end up staying at Donny, all it says is that the job wasn't for him.

If he said yes and we failed to reach a compo agreement then yes, that would say a lot more but I don't think it would come to that.

The signs are beginning to look a little ominous for me.

The big delay and now no official approach to speak to SOD as yet (so it seems).

Looks to me like we want to give Carver every opportunity to win the next few games so that we can employ him as manager on the cheap.

The longer this now drags on, the more concerned I become and I am one of those that advocated the club should take it's time to make sure we get the right candidate. Somehow, something just doesn't seem right!

Perhaps it's just me being cynical, but it wouldn't surprise me one bit if SOD wasn't our number 1 target. All the hype has come not from the club, but from the fans and these boards. I would be amazed if he wasn't on the clubs wanted list, but not surprised if we didn't make him our prime target (due to the financial circumstances we find the club in)!

Hope I'm wrong

To be fair Donny have contributed to the "hype" more than anyone else, they chose to comment on the rumours, Ryan chose to come out and say he "expected an approach from SUFC" and that if that approach came he would "let SOD know but compensation would be substantial" both Ryan and their chief exec have also said "we expect Sean to stay" and "Sheffield United fans wouldn't give him time" etc, etc.....

SUFC have (rightly or wrongly) remained silent on the issue and have only confirmed that we will take our time to get the right man and that Carver is in charge over Christmas. NEVER has Birch or McCabe mentioned SOD at all, maybe he isn't even on our radar and it's all scaremongering bollocks from Ryan to demonstrate to SOD that he belongs at Donny....

Either way Ryan should keep his fat mouth firmly shut and only pass comment when something official happens.

Well done SUFC for remaining professional and not sinking to Ryans level.

I keep hearing cheap option, but what if it's the right option?

Part of the remit for choosing the "right man" is to go for someone with NPL experience. I think that is the boards view written on the o/s. Will playing half a dozen NPL games be considered to have met that criteria? Carver caretaker managed 5 games at Leeds and lost 4. They also said it would be doubtful they would go for a first time manager. Although I think they (TB) did also say they would be wrong to rule anyone out.

As I say, I may be wrong, but to me the delay in taking this into the new year is to give Carver the opportunity to save the club money!

Prove me wrong TB and KM

COYRAWW

EDIT: Here's the statement from the o/s:

"Although I think it doubtful that we would go for a first-time manager or someone without experience of managing in the Championship, it would be wrong to rule anyone out at this stage."

sheffielder, no one knows the answer to your question at this stage of "what if it is the right option", I wish we did, but turn it around and you get the unthinkable that many fans wouldn't forgive KM and TB for and that is to take the "cheap option" and it turns out to be be the "wrong option!"

My choice would be SOD. If he says no then MA, but I wish I had a crystal ball! ;)

Absolutely correct Torrix.

I think the club must keep their cards cose to their chest on this one and it is a very, very important decision they have to make. There may, for all we know, be a shed load of discussions going on with prospective managers as to what they wouild expect in terms of backroom staff for example.

Most of it probably being done on the phone rather than in interview situations - difficult to meet in this weather I would guess

I think most people know the state we're in, even if they try to deny it DD, so no, I don't think it would tell us anything at all. But that said, we haven't actually come out and said SOD is our number one target, some of the other candidiates may impress more once the process is underway.

Still think if we get 8 points from next 12 (making 11 from last 15), Carver's a shoe-in.

Sometimes the club cannot win. I get pissed off when we annouce we have signed someone (Leroy Lita anyone) and then you find its a steaming pile of Pony. So as far as I am concerned we are doing exactly the right thing. We cannot rush this appointment and should just go about our business. If that upsets or offends anyone then so be it.

Cards close to chests and get the right man, thats all I want.

Are you suggesting that so soon after Blackwell, I once again will have to sit at BDTBL hoping we lose? Very depressing but it looks like it to me.

Got to hand it to McCabe and Birch. It takes some doing creating a situation where plenty of fans hope we lose in order to benefit the club but these two clowns seem very adept at it.

You can always come round to ours and watch GSS Mic.....

You may be right, Raul but I truly hope not. It's all too easy to get carried away with a run of good results by a caretaker manager. It happened, to an extent, with the former non-league, semi-pro, reserve keeper we used to have.

On this occasion I genuinely (naively?) believe the club realises the pivotal importance of this appointment. It really is a chance to break the mould. The only candidate capable of doing so is SOD.

There has been no formal confirmation that SOD is No 1 target but all the straws in the wind suggest he is. I do believe he's BDTBL bound but, yes, there is an element of wishful thinking there.

This really is a chance to change our club significantly for the better. A transient 8 point haul ought not to alter our vision.

Carver OUT! :)

pivotal importance of this appointment - agree, we could lose even more season ticket holders next season if we get it wrong. Get it right and we sell some half season tickets this term.

The only candidate capable of doing so is SOD - What about Colman, Collins, Houghton and no doubt some others I can't think of. Whilst SOD is a good pick he is not the be all and end all.

Carver OUT! - agree

.... and what if Carver continued that success and got us into the Play-offs, and then into the Premiership?

The big word there is "IF".

For me I'm happy to leave it to the people who manage our club, and I will support the Blades and whatever full time Manager they chose, except ...... Megson & Sheridan, or the like.

Still seems to be romping home at the bookies?

Is that based on monies placed or insider knowledge?
