Cant believe some of the comments, everything that is wrong with modern football, wilder took us from league one to premiership playing great football. Hit hard times are the minute, but the solution is not to sack manager.
Years ago you stuck by manager/team through thick and thin . Now with all these computer managers who play football manager , ps4 and fantasy football think it's easy. Everything is throw away now a days 9 games in sack him crazy
We really shouldn't be were we are now with players we had. Even if we get relegated believe he's still the man for the job UTB

I don’t want to be too critical because we are punching way above our weight being in the PL. Last season was an incredible achievement and unfortunately it’s fed the narrative of a lot of delusional Blades who were spouting nonsense about us being better than we are.

I just really hope we don’t continue to embarrass ourselves.

Burnley stuck with Dyche when relegated
Would the same fans be asking the question if we had started like this last season
We massively over achieved last season with a team made up of Championship players
Does anybody in their right mind think that another manager would get anymore out of these players than Wilder

Well both CW/AK were defenders when they played and have built us a great defence, so perhaps we should ask B.Sharp and K Edwards to find us our next striker ?..........

He may very well be the man for the job back in the Championship. BUT, the Prince will ultimately decide that, not the fans.

If anything, Chris has done too good a job.

We've progressed so quickly in terms of league placings until now, that none of the rest of the club has had a chance to catch up so we're at a bit of a ceiling in terms of the players we can attract.

We don't have any of the facilities that now the other, more established teams have to attract top players. Look at the documentaries on Netflix and Amazon. Spurs' training ground is like a 5 star hotel. Ours is an ex-working men's club, in a nondescript part of town in a middling Northern Town. That sounds harsh, but it's not even as if we are on land in say Dore, the nicer part of Sheffield or something nice overlooking the peak district, like Rockliffe, the Boro training ground if I recall. It's just an unremarkable area with now, unremarkable facilities.

COVID has been a massive stick in the spokes of progress. But even then, the ground isn't big enough to capitalize. After finishing 9th and averaging 31,000, you should be looking to push some of the attendances to the 34k, 36k figure and the revenue that comes with that. We've not been at a point to really consider properly pushing that ceiling at any time in recent years.

We've progressed from having the 8th lowest (or was it less) wage bill in the Championship to having a shout at Europe. It's impossible for the wage bill to adjust to the calibre of players you want to get to keep that going when you don't have huge additional investment. So we end up with Brewster who showed promise of 10 in 20 rather than Watkins who got almost 30 in the full season. Before that, we got Robinson who managed a similar ratio in a smaller sample size and we couldn't attract Maupay who had a much much more proven run.

It's a hard league to stay in. Even Fulham. I bet we couldn't afford most of their team. We got outbid for Robinson, Mitrovic will be on 20-30k more than our top earner, Cairney will be on north of 50k etc, etc. Probably the only other two teams who are comparable are WBA and Burnley.

As fun as it has been you have to be realistic. It's not going to be an continuous upward trajectory. You are going to hit bumps in the road. It's at that point you take stock and appreciate what got you here. So, we might go down. Big fucking deal. It will take a bit of time to build proper foundations to keep us here.

Let's enjoy seeing it take shape. Chris is a brilliant manager. Yes, he makes mistakes but it is a hard league. He's kept us competitive in all games bar one and this when we've been like a bird with one wing. Any team would struggle, particularly one without the depth.

We have to see the bigger picture. This is a 10, 15 year plan with Wilder at the helm. He can be our Guy Roux, Arsene Wenger, Sir Alex Ferguson. Just stick with it Blades.

But while he's at the helm. It's not over by a long chalk. And if we did go down, it's still not over because he'd be there demanding more and more to get us right back up.

We may feel a bit downtrodden right now, but just like the Clint Eastwood movies, when the Pale Rider is in town, you can have faith. The Lord works in mysterious ways as Clint says...

You can say what you want about bedwetters, sticking with the manager in Bassett era etc, but whether you, me and every other fan out there want Wilder to remain or go, is ultimately irrrelevant. It will come down to what The Prince wants to do.

Well said UTB

"We have to see the bigger picture. This is a 10, 15 year plan with Wilder at the helm. He can be our Guy Roux, Arsene Wenger, Sir Alex Ferguson. Just stick with it Blades".

Are you for real? Wilder was bullish for 18 months about 'leaving through the front, not the back door'. There's no way he will stay around if we get humiliated.

Yh disgrace init anyone who criticises this team and manager is an OBVIOS PIG!
Well I must be the biggest Pig in the North East then because having witnessed the latest debacle today I think both Wilder, Knill and all of this team are just not good enough!

We’re not going down. Long long way to go yet. Apart from the Chelsea game we’ve competed and not been far off. Need Brewster to show us why we paid all that money

We are Sheffield united did all these fans expect the March up the league to continue to champions league winners, we have never done it easy always been ups and downs since I started following blades in 70's and before that. been a lot more darker days than these . We will always be the same its who we are . just got to accept who we are and be proud of it UTB

Debacle? We lost 1-0 to a decent West Ham team.

I’d go as far as to say the only ‘debacle’ this season was at Chelsea.

Clearly results need to improve but to say Wilder and Knill are ‘not good enough’ is ridiculous.

One point from almost a quarter of the season and a devoid lack of goals kind of puts us in miracle territory on staying up.

Bassett signed Glyn Hodges that turned out to be a miracle signing, can't see that happening this time around.

Excellent post couldnt have put it better myself
Those of you who want Wilder to go be careful what you wish for look at Huddersfield could have got relegated to L1 we dont want that do we ?

It's not just about the result, it's about the performance, our inability to string passes together, to pass it without passing it out of play, to sustain an attack without the ball being passed all the way back to Ramsdale, for McBurnie to be near a cross, for McGoldrick not to take a pass then pass it backwards, for Norwood to start looking like a midfielder again, for Wilder to have a Plan C because Plan A has long gone and Plan B isn't fucking working........!!!!

No, fans didn’t expect CL. They simply expected the team to play front foot football. They would accept the losses if we played with same fluency/courage as last season. So often today the first instinct when receiving the ball was to play sideways or backwards. Not one single player played at PL level today. Alarmingly, Wilder believes not much wrong with performance and said in the context of West Ham being quite poor today. This team is the polar opposite of last season’s. Devoid of ideas, no courage on the ball and no squad depth to effect the game from the bench. Only one team has made a worse start in PL history and was relegated. To not allow/accept criticism of this team is delusional. I hope we do stick with Wilder but I make that decision with the certainty of knowing we will be relegated.

Debacle? Dramatic or what. A decent game we might have easily won if things were going our way. Football always a lot harder when the chips are down. And currently we're in empty stadiums with no moral support.

West Ham quite poor? We were just the better team for spells.

And as I'm sure you've been told elsewhere...v you can't just "play front foot football" against teams with world class players... Especially when you don't have your own world class players.

Yawn at the negative fans, to be honest.

I'm betting on us staying up if the odds are any good.

Am i supposed to cross reference threads to get the joke? Apologies if so.

Chris Wilder

2016/17 - Wins League One with 100 points (after 5 years of shite with other managers)
2017/18 - Finishes 10th in the Championship after storming to 1st place around Christmas
2018/19 - Wins Promotion (2nd in 3 years) after finishing 2nd in the Championship.
Also wins LMA Manager Of the Season
2019/20 -Guides us to a 9th place finish in the Premier League and possibly could have reached Europe if lockdown hadn’t happened (speculation obviously)
Also finishes 2nd in the LMA Manager of the Season award.

2020/21 - doesn’t win for 9 games.

‘Not got enough’ - Blades fans.

Perspective, please get some.

I never said not to criticise, everyone entitled to opinion on what is need, who we need, style of play , but all this he need to go , last few season was best thing sliced bread it's the fickleness I cant stand. Look at our squad what we have spent how many truly premier league players do we have, punched way above our weight last season that's all I'm saying , it's not just wilder modern football and clubs going g through 3 and 4 managers a season it's crazy, how can you build for the future like that

I agree on the whole. We shouldn't sack him and should give him JTW and until the end of the season.

However, what's his net spend? £125m odd? That's mental. We don't look any different for all that dough spent. You have to question his ability to spend and recruit (the Prince will be right now I can assure you).

From the YouTube fans forum a few months back it was quite awkward between Betti's and The Prince on the subject of Wilder asking for money. You got the feeling he asked for too much but did a good job persuading the board the players would bank us staying up.

Well, Mr Wilder, the pressure is on. I'm with you all the way but this is truly the first time the pressure has been and I don't want to hear how others in the league are 'miles ahead' of us and we can't attack as we'll picked off. That's bollocks talk and I don't know why you've started with these negative soundbites in pre and post match interviews because it has an effect.

Sort it out (I think he will).

As daft as this may sound. If we are hopelessly cut adrift at the bottom of the league in January, and Chris Wilder is still miraculously our manager. I would actually extend his contract......Not sack him.
I honestly can’t think of any other manager with a couple years Premier league experience under his belt, with such a big point to prove and an obvious passion for SUFC. To bring us back up again.

Up there as one of the happiest times of my life last season....but Wilder has been given the funds. He’s very good at deflecting and presenting the small club mindset and psychologically that worked wonders last season when doubts would have been present before a ball was kicked but the Prince is determined to make this a proper PL club on the back of an amazing first season and Wilder has this season, in my humble opinion, missed a trick. Those players are scared and you can see it in their play and frustratingly that usually only ends one way. He is definitely the right guy to bring us back from the Champ but nevertheless it is heart breaking to recognise the inevitability of this season play out after only 9 games.
