Wednesday supporters are an incredibly insecure lot. They need the constant reassurance of thinking that they support something 'big'. One can only wonder at what inadequates these people are in their everyday life, that they need the succour of believing that they are attached to a sports club that is 'big'.

All I got from that is that he thinks currently we are bigger Wednesday. Odd thing to say in your first interview.
 
He’d clearly been primed, got the word massive in the first sentence.

His mate Megson will have been filling his head with nonsense about the fanbase as well.

it’s going to be quite funny actually when he realises the 40,000 fans don’t actually exist, even if their shit hole of a ground was capable of holding them. Safely.

Is he on about big in terms of the height of all the 6 foot 6 giants he intends to sign to try and hoof his way into Prem.
 
We should be happy, not only he will ensure they loiter down there, he will also ensure a horrible ugly as fuck brand of of boring football. Exactly what they deserve really. Still, at least their on their way, again.....

Did some checking on home league attendances over the last 20 years a while ago. And was quite surprised to see Wednesday were marginally ahead in total only by a few thousand. So realistically we are about the same size. Pigs have had 0 years in PL in 20 years now. We've had 2 and a bit so far... So let's say 24 less games over 3 seasons I believe than them. Half it so it's 12 home games. In 12 addition home games we would actually have a lot more in total if the average attendance was say 25000. So it's not our fault we've been to the PL and had less games as a result! In truth I no longer care about such trivial things more curiosity. They can be as big as they want or claim to be... I'll always be a Blade. Yeah if they by chance got into the PL they would get higher attendance by a few thousand. But we are only limited by our capacity. Most of us probably knows someone who couldn't get a ticket or season ticket last season only shows we do have the fan base.

I'm going to try and comment on this with a neutral head on rather than my own Blades bias. Pulis, at 64, and also similar to Simon Jordan at 53, are old enough to remember the 80's and 90's when Wednesday had 20 years on us mostly in the top flight or ahead of us. We of course had the 70's but by the end of it were in division 3! In the early 70's though we were getting 40,000 for big games whereas Wednesday were averaging 11,000 - 13,000 in Div 3 - they had 5 consecutive seasons there also, so when they throw that line of big clubs don't spend 6 years in league One, in reference to us, they have short memories.

However, back to those 20 years of them being on top was very damaging for us and huge for them, especially as the PL started in 1992. We were of course there also, but by then playing catch up and at the time Wednesday were big spenders. Wednesday's ground then was also staging semi finals and they built the new stand in 1996 - probably with grants I know! Anyway, if you look at the history over the last 40 years and remember the above then many older people think that Wednesday if promoted will assume their billing as top dogs in Sheffield. I don't know whether they'd get more fans in, they'd have to develop the ground for starters, but as they've not had any PL football for 20 years there would naturally be a clamour for tickets. We all know that Wednesday have a large section of glory supporters over the years who don't go often but wanted to support the more glamourous club, the club that staged World Cup games, Euro games, had Chris Waddle, went to see them play FC Luxembourg in Europe etc! Many of those glory fans will have lost interest by now, and over the last 20 years we've largely been top dogs but without been in the PL enough. If we can have the next 10 years in the PL and develop the ground further, irrespective of what they do, I don't believe that Wednesday will be seen as the bigger club by anyone other than themselves, unless they come up and do what Leicester have - unlikely.

We obviously need to establish ourselves at this level and I believe we will and Wednesday fans will be living in the past even more than they are now. So in essence to Pulis's statement, every year that goes by as it is, makes his statement less correct by the year and Wednesday fans know it, that's why they're obviously desperate for us to go down and them to come up because they know what's happening now us hugely damaging to them, especially with the global brand that is the PL.
 
I was worried they would get Pulis for the simple reason that (according to Jay, Blades Analytics on twitter) they are now set up as a direct play outfit. Perfect for Pulis and perhaps why he got the job. That style of play can go far in the EFL and could sneak them in via the play offs. They would be able to make big changes like we did in the first season back in the Prem with a manager that managed to keep Stoke there for a while.
I don't think your average snort beast gives a shit about how they play they just want to feel as though they are bigger than us, period. So unfortunately Pulis may be a good fit for them.
Hopefully I'm too pessamistic and the dinasaur manager will take them down to L1.

Had a long chat at the weekend with a Wednesday fan about the appointment, and while he feels they’ll be comfortably safe with Pulis he suggested that the players arguably best suited to his football were mostly moved on in the summer, which is why he’d have preferred to see Pulis only on a deal till the end of the season.

I rate him as a manager, but less so at getting teams promoted. His style of football seems to work better at keeping teams up than getting teams up. I remember listening to the match summariser from a Boro game under Pulis and it just sounded lifeless. That was his first season there too and we know from the game v us at the Lane that they just seemed unimaginative, yet the squad he had at his disposal cost much more. On the flip side, they beat us 3 - 0 at the Riverside, and he'll get their set pieces going much better, but I think they'll need more than that to get back to the PL. It won't be this season, next season at the earliest and with another 3 PL sides coming down, hopefully not us, it won't get any easier. This year is actually a fairly weak Championship and yet Wednesday thus far look very average.

Very clever what radio sheff did yesterday, they know over 90% of Wendy fans hate the appointment so they trawled out some fans or associates from various clubs who would say something nice which would appease the Wendy fans and it worked. And as we all know Pulis had to mention the word big to get them onside😊

I think in political circles they'd call it winning hearts and minds. Underwhelming appointment, but a safe-ish one. He'll get them functional enough to steer clear of trouble I think.

Probably because I’m tired so apologies, but I’ve read that about five times and can’t make sense of it 😎
 
Three things:
1. Why have we become so obsessed with them since our form slumped? It smacks of fear tbh. Who cares which is bigger, let’s try to stay up and concentrate on that, which will annoy them greatly.
2. It’s similar to when people slag warnock off; what do you expect of a new employee? Whenever I’ve started a new job I’ve tried to motivate my staff by using another company as a benchmark, one that can be related to, usually Amazon. We should be proud that we’re being quoted for inspiration. He’s set an expectation, albeit subtly, which is actually quite clever fan and player management.
3. In readiness for the feedback; no I am not a 🐷 and I want them relegated. Or if not to be a nowhere club in the championship, which I think secretly is what he’s there to achieve.
 
Like all ex-pros, he puts his own spin on things to come out of everything as the good guy, but I have to say I enjoyed listening to it all.

He rubbishes Pulis and particularly his dinosaur training methods but it's also funny that Michael Appleton ('tomorrow's man') doesn't come out of it well either.

He nearly lost me by comparing us as similar to Reading and then just admitting we are 'a little bit bigger'. He also thought there was some sort of 'kinship' from all the games we played against them in the 2000's, so badly gets that wrong.

He is very clear that his spell at United re-ignited his love for the game and says he loved it. We were in L1 with a shit team (Wilson/Morgs) but he still enjoyed it and loved the fans, who he described as amazing.

I've got to 3:30 (really looking forward to hearing the rest) but I'm already struggling with how Pulis could possibly have been successful with at least 3 of the concepts (no shooting practice, get the ball to Fuller, this is where you'll stand) that have come out and he has been reasonably successful considering the teams he's managed but how?
