Did a good job at Fulham (promotion), Brighton (promotion), Leicester (promotion to Prem), doing well at Port Vale. He's passionate, had success on a limited budget and has an excellent eye for a young player. He's a Blade and wants the job, understands what the club is about and is reputed to have excellent man management skills.

He plays decent stuff but can mix it up when needs be. Most importantly I think he'd be in it for the long haul rather than using us as a stepping stone to somewhere else. I see no better candidate out there. :thumbup:

He's certainly a good bloke and has a decent track record. All I would say is that if you want Mickey Adams, dont expect pretty football.

The man knows how to get results but I remember his Leicester side and they were very much kick and rush merchants. Perhaps it was due to the players he had at his disposal though.....not sure how his other teams have played.

I dont have a problem with any style at the moment as long as we win but bearing in mind what our supporters said about KB.....its worth noting.

We are in a relegation battle. We need someone nasty who can shout, kick, scratch and bite to get us safe. O'Driscoll doesnt fit that bill for me.

For me, it wouldn't be any major disaster to be relegated though. That's why I was happy with Speed being in charge, as long as we're looking to make progress for the future, I'm happy to sacrifice the present.

Adams is probably one of the more realistic and capable managers we could go for. People have been commenting on 11 years ago when Warnock came to the club which was in a similar situation in terms of league position. I think with Adams being a Blade and a good man-manager like Warnock, it could be what we need right now. I think the key to any appointment we make though is not tying anyone down to a lengthy contract. It's cost us massively over the past few years. Having said that, potential managers may only want to come if offered a long-term contract to increase their own financial security.

There's always suitors out there.
Players like Evans (even though I think he will do it for another team), we would have to listen to any offers on to get his high wages off. A team coming down from the PL would snap him up if he was available at a low price.

Like I say, if you make players available for free - there will always be teams sniffing around (except for players like France and Kozluk.... some things you have to live with )

I like Adams. He is a decent manager, a Sheffielder, a Blade and has a good record. HOWEVER, he is a hoof merchant. He is another Blackwell or Warnock. His teams are phsyical (often dirty) and play the long ball. It's never been pretty. His teams usually play positional and win gaols from being tyight and scoring from set pieces. Why is it that all the Blades fans wanted rid of Warnock and Blackwell, because the football was not attractive enough, yet are callling just as bigger kick and rush merchant the saviour?

The question the board have to ask is 'do we pick the right long term choice and risk going down, or go for a 'scrapper' stay up and languish for several more seasons?

Certainly SOD and Poyet are unlikely to come due to the quality of the squad and resources available. Also they'd would cost substantial compensation. I'm not sure they are realistic options. I also think Coppell hasn't got it mentally for football any more, certainly since Reading. Sousa plays boring football and hasn't proved himself.

I think the contention that "all" Blades fans wanted rid of NW is a bit of a stretch as well Ollie.

Man City spent big when they dropped down and paid big wages for League One, we're in no position to do that. Relegation would see us stuck in League One.

would it be heresy to suggest that i don't care if we go down if we get sorted out and come back up playing some semblance of decent football.. plus monty and quinn would jump ship to one of their many 'admirers'.. i mean they're too good for div3 arent they?

Wasn't Speed supposed to be the 'long term view' ? How is anyone going to build anything around a squad of about 17 fit players, 4 of which don't belong to us ?

For me, yes. It is paramount that we stay in this division if we want to start moving forward again.....see last comment for why.

We tried that with Speed. He was a long term appointment and he quickly established that he would have no transfer funds. The work he started is a great ideal and had all the best intentions behind it but he would have/will never succeed in his aims with no funding. Its not working and it never will because fans arent patient enough.

You wouldn't get rid of many of the top earners as no one would want them. Any sides that are interested wouldnt be able to meet their salary expectations and we would be stuck with the same overheads and less revenue.

You're also talking as if we would come back up soon. We could be stuck there a decade if we drop! If there is one division that is hard to get out of.....its that one!

You think we'd retain crowds of 16,000? I think it would be nearer 10 unless we started like a train and the lessons of this years ridiculous match day pricing was well and truly learned.
Relegation WOULD be a disaster in my view.

Unless McCabe is going to start putting some of his wealth into steering us out of the mess he has steered us into by investing in a top quality manager and promise him funds then Adams is probably about the best we can get.

And he just might tell one or two of our overpaid players what it should mean to them to wear our shirt and he might be able to whip up some passion amongst our apathetic fans (me among them) to make the Lane a special place again.

Micky Adams has a good track record Grecian and is doing very well with limited funding at Port Vale. He got Leicester (a side with financial problems at the time) into the PL and has won other promotions. Prior to Kevin Keegan being appointed Fulham manager I seem to remember he was doing very well there. Al Fayed wanted Keegan in so paid Adams off to part company from what ive been told.

We could do a lot worse and he's a Blade so would be passionate about keeping us up. He has to be a serious candidate IMO.

Agree with you on relegation.....I cant see how it would be anything other than catastrophic for us.
