We are not getting balls into the box but it is not all the fullbacks fault.
Currently without Fleck we only have one midfielder in Berge who can actually run at a defender and beat a man. Others tend to pass the ball off sideways or backwards when confronted which kills the attack as the defenders come streaming back.

Obviously just aimlessly sticking it in the box every time doesn't guarantee anything (we had most crosses in the league after a couple of games), but they've got more chance of getting on the end of something in the box than something that ends up back in our own half.

The conundrum that you have stumbled across is that’s precisely what DOES happen when you don’t carefully plot your way forward towards goal.

Far too many (not you btw) reverting to “type” with calls for “gerritintbox”. It’s the Blades disease.

We've never just slung the ball in to the box, as others have said it's a tried and tested method of working overloads down the sides and fashioning a better opportunity from there.

However, Wilder openly admitted before and after the games yesterday that we were abandoning our usual style as we can't go toe to toe with City, and were going more direct. Why the fuck then would you not "go direct" when you're in a crossing position? Far more effective than "going direct" from the keeper. It was baffling and seemed to go exactly against what Wilder said the intention was.
