Season won’t be completed

Set a precedent last season. Why would it not be finished, even if it gets paused?
They won't cancel the Euros again next year which means everything has to be completed by the end of May. There are not many free weeks where you can play twice a week. Any suspension for more than 3-4 weeks and it will get cancelled.

I'm pretty sure it will continue. It came back in the middle of the lockdown last season and players are still getting tested more than NHS staff because the world is mental.

Ridiculous that the internationals will probably go ahead too

F1 drivers can get tested and get the result within the hour now.

Agreed, if they cancel the Euros next year, it’s unlikely it will be rescheduled with the World Cup in 2022.

UEFA will do everything they can to ensure it goes ahead. Maybe scrap the across Europe idea and host matches in fewer countries.

Be interesting to see what happens with football/sport as part of the announcement next week. In theory everyone is getting tested so no reason to shut it down but I've given up guessing with this government.

The Govt are still trying to keep plates spinning. So, I expect they'll allow elite football to continue. My opinion is they need to send out the strongest, take this seriously, message they can. Halting elite football would help do that.

I work for a large industrial company
We get tested every week and have been classified as an essential worker. We’ve been told we are carrying on , so there’s no way they’re going to stop football too much money involved.
It’s all about £££

Not going to happen with the money involved. I think they will carry on for now. In 4 weeks if/when things not improved as much as the Govt hoped and then they shut schools/unis for the next lockdown - into the new year - be interesting to see what it does with top level football as you say if that is allowed to carry on, the messages become incredibly mixed as it is a non essential activity when all said and done (yes, I know the money involved is huge).

If the internationals carry on its genuinely a disgrace

The Europe idea is utterly stupid in light of what is going on. Madness having football players travelling across borders.

Lockdown is now probably causing more deaths than the actual virus.
No doubt Covid is having an effect on other conditions like cancer and heart disease. It’s not all about lockdown though. It’s about the NHS actually having the resources to manage everything at the same time - and it doesn’t.

Agreed and if we’re talking mental health and suicide rates as I have seen mentioned in the media then that’s a topic which is incredibly hard to quantify and the mental health of medical staff has been vastly under reported as they’ve been working flat out now since March everyone from porters to surgeons and the personal toll must be unimaginable.

Football is in its little bubble and it's worked thus far so I can't see them stopping, though I wish they would.

Just fuck it off until some fans can come back, it's shite anyway.

Last season when we beat Chelsea, Spurs and Wolves at home the joy was like I'd just eaten a particularly nice sandwich, if I'd have been there with 29,000 others it'd have been like I won the lottery and I was going home with Hayley Atwell.

Bring the Euros forward, play them in a country that knows what it's doing with Covid (or at least is on top of it to the degree that fans can attend, even if it's all neutral), sod the moving around. Get them done like the CL as a quick fire tournament. Resume the PL at a later date.

Agreed it’s not the same but it’s the financial aspect that will keep it running clubs including us will have spent this summer based upon expected income not receiving that income could be catastrophic. If this season was going to be cancelled they’d had to be incredibly bold and do it before the transfer window opened. As it stands I can only see a cancellation if actually playing the games becomes untenable which for football at the elite level with the amount of testing going on is unlikely. It’s lower down the pyramid which will see drastic consequences and frankly after this season simply still having a football club might be the biggest achievement of all :(

Yeah, that's just my preferred scenario outside of a vaccine and people coming back in, but unfortunately it's all about the money. Still got to pay the rent and wages, can't just pause it full stop.

Yeah agreed as it is currently it’s not really football as we all fell in love with it. But our club will survive due to being in the prem. But with this lockdown (now clearly needed as the tier system has failed) and others which may come after before a vaccine is found the football pyramid as we know it may not.

It used to before these bastards started underfunding it as well as closing wards and hospitals.

Wouldnt surprise me if for financial reasons the PL carries on and the EFL declare their season as "null and void". No promotion or relegation. I think the PL will refuse to give the donation Championship clubs are demanding after they had rejected their offer a few weeks ago.
