Stadium and facilities redevelopment post KMC

I would have thought that the expansion will take place then.

Makes sense....but increasing the capacity of the Kop next season is major news....it’s a big positive.
So you would have thought the club would have communicated this..

Also I’m certain McCabe said the Kop expansion designs would take 1 season + 1 Summer to build (14 months).
He said the beauty of the design was building behimd the Kop....meant only a minimal reduction in capacity was required.
He said the big work of extending and re-positioning the roof woukd be done over the Summer...once the stand is built.

Unless we decide to expand BL over the road if demand really needed it.

True...however I wonder if stadium capacity is different due to almost everyone driving a car these days.

Older Sheffielders will hark on about there being over 50,000 at Bramall Lane and around 60,000 at Hillsboro.
But to be honest in recent years the traffic congestion around Hillsboro is terrible when ever they hit 25K crowds. Traffic in Sheffield seems to be getting worse,
I honestly don’t think the area of Hillsboro could take a 35K crowd anymore....the traffic jams and parking would be absolute carnage.

i also wonder what the maximum crowd the area around Bramall Lane could take.....taking into account public transport, parking, road systems,

Holte end at Villa park is built over a road. could do with the same at Bramall Lane end. Man Utd. are going to expand the smallest stand. over the railway lines.
Building tech now allows this sort of building.

Are Man Utd extending their smallest stand now?

I remember 5 and 10 years ago there was always talk of taking the Old Trafford capacity up to 85K but that railway line was always the problem.
Apparently making a tunnel inside the stand was do able but so expensive that it made no economical sense.

One of the stands at the old Baseball Ground at Derby was built over the road too and that was ancient.

Bramall Lane must be one of the best-situated grounds in the country.near city centre plenty of busses. and the railway station 15m walk.
Plenty of street parking for cars. I don,t see a problem.as long. as bleeding students fresher day is not on matchday at Bramall Lane.a 45,000 capacity no problem.

The bit I don’t understand is why would the club spend a lot of money taking the poles out of the Kop and finding another method to support the roof similar to the Bramall Lane end, to then extend the Kop using a cantilever roof. Or is the removal of the poles and extension the same thing.
Presumably they can put in a cantilever roof that will cover the old kop and the space for the new one.

It's been a long time since I looked at those plans. Here they are to refresh people's minds.

The old video rendering and music probably make it appear dated. But I could go with that, if it’s the fastest and least fan-intrusive. One of my pet hates, is the shadow cast by a stadium roof and I just can’t get on with the crosshatch pattern.

Hate St James for that shadow on the pitch from their roof. I'd hope we'd have some technology and have it close or become opaque for matches. You need the sun for the groundsmen but not for the match.

I like this photo of the new Kop....it shows the size and will look so impressive when full.
At it’s best a wall of sound....inspiring to our players but so intimidating to opposition players.

For a comparison of capacities
Uniteds Current Kop 10,221 (includes all the restricted and no view seats)
Wednesdaya current Kop 11,210
Liverpools Anfield Kop 12,390
Uniteds new Kop 13,400

Gerrit built!

And put some black 3D shadow effects on the SUFC as well while you're at it...

In the blackification of the Lane, have we added a shadow to the seat lettering here? Or was this done ages ago and I didn’t notice?

This was from 4 days ago on the club insta (though could have been an old photo tbh)

Yeah that’s new I’m sure. Looks good. Presume they’ll have done the same on the kop etc. We’ll see today.

Just need some of the pink seats swapping for red ones now and it’ll look mint.

The cutlasses on the South Stand appear to have also had black seating added to them to add to the consistency with the Kop & BL end additions.

It does look much better with the addition of the black seats. Makes a big difference.

Always wondered why the cutlasses are the 'wrong' way around (ie facing outwards, rather than in)?
I always thought from an artistic point of view that they gave the sense of them being pre-crossed and in the process of coming together to cross. They couldn’t be done I think in a standard cross as per the badge because it would have sliced through the Exec seats there. And having them the usual way round with a massive gap in between would seem a bit weird.

The yet-to-be-completed nature of the cutlass crossing seamlessly represents the constant movement of the club forward. Or represents that we constantly leave projects unfinished...
