No I wouldn’t either, still a kid with what half an hour of prem experience ??

Bring him on for half an hour if it’s close

Out of interest what's the reasoning for not starting Brewster? I was amazed he didnt start yesterday, lack of fitness or not, he would have been making his debut against a weaker team and woul dhave got through an hour. Bit shit throwing him on when we were being outplayed. We've paid £24m for him, get him on the pitch and learning his trade. 100% he should start at Anfield, a weaker defence (who he knows!) and a point to prove. We need goals, lets be honest none of the strikers (him aside) are going to score many so he needs to be on the pitch.

I think his inexperience along with start of match will likely just see him bottled up by majority of defences

Throw him on whilst they are tiring both physically and mentally

I don’t think we are good enough to win 4-3 in next 3 games so best bet is to try and hold out and Nick a game 1-0 or even 2-1

Posted on the 'Berge as a 10' thread. Why not?
Setting aside the arguments over whether a 10 would help or hinder us right now, remember how long it took by his own admission to learn a new role when he joined and he was played at RCM for the first time? Do we really want him to revert back again and start learning yet another new role?

Am I the only one unwilling to throw Brewster straight in? Don't want to destroy the kids confidence from the off so would leave him to come off the bench certainly against the better teams.

on the bench with Brewster getting up to speed use him from the bench until we have this run of tough games out of the way.
It's not even a long thread... unless I'm blocked for some unimaginable reason!

Brewster had a productive preseason with Liverpool.

He spent it also training vs VVD, Matip and Gomez.

Not the most outlandish to suggest he might know their game and potential weaknesses better than most (though vice versa also applied).

It's doubtful they rated him so highly if he continually walked away from training and practice matched having never hit the net at all!

There will be a bit of doubt there plus for all his skills in attack I still see Alexander-Arnold as a potential weakness defensively.

I just hope we show more than the last game there. It was our worst of the season by far.

Surely making him the record signing and leaving him on the bench in favour of strikers that can't score is going to damage his confidence just as much as playing him

Just don't get the Burke love in , a striker no shots on goal this season 15 goals in six years at a lower level worst striker at the club .

Robinson is alright for next season if we do indeed go down but this year nowhere near good enough at this level to be first choice. We're just going to have to gamble on Ampadu being able to cover that left side or we are doomed
Doomed have you been watching too much dads army lol

Are you suggesting our forwards receive specialist training???

Seen a few putting Bogle in above Baldock, personally I think he’s been one of the consistent performers in this bad patch.

Also can’t see the logic in giving a debut to a new signing against the Prem champs... be very harsh to drop him in the deep end like that.

——————Ramsdale——————
——— Bash Egan Stevens ———
—Baldock —————— Osborn—
— Berge-Ampadu-Lundstram—
———-McBurnie—Burke———-

I would go this^ Midfield makes us more press resistant, imo Norwood cant play against L’Pool he is just too easy to press

Feel we will struggle on the Defensive overlap in this game so just play our best 3 CB’s (imo) and try to use the most comfortable 3 midfielders we have to create chances, Burke and McB can hopefully press their unfamiliar back line into mistakes. I would also be tempted to swap McB for McG, feel Didzy would give us better link up play on the counter, McB gives us an aerial outlet at set plays so he starts

I remember Jostein Flo destroying them, think it was our last win at Anfield.

Anything is possible.

How much he cost doesn't matter in the context of whether he can handle being up against the best defenders in the league. I don't want to see him have to be taken off on consecutive weeks because he hasn't had anything out of 2 of the best defences in the land, much rather have him coming on for 20 minutes when hopefully the defenders aren't fully on it anymore. As for strikers who can't score, I only think that counts for McBurnie just now and Burke given his poor career tally however his speed offers something different. Leave Burke on the half way line rather than have him defend and even Liverpool would be foolish not to have 2 men on him.

Lefs be honest it doesn't matter what side we put out the outcome will be the same 0 points.

........................ Rammers
.........Bash............Egan........ Stevens
. Baldock........... Ampadu............ Lowe
.............Berge................... Osborne
............................. Didz
..........................Brewster

I would start Didz or McBurnie to help out the top of the midfield in what will be a tough game. I also think this match may suit the athleticism of Ampadu more than Norwood. I'd like to see Burke and McBurnie come off the bench against tiring opposition.

Liverpool play Ajax weds night in champions league so at least we should be fresher, also after losing van dick and getting spanked by villa, now is the best time we could play Liverpool.

The Blades in general, and Wilder in particular need a “painkiller partner” along the lines of the Cadbury’s snack partner.
Wilder must dream of the minor selection headaches he enjoyed in the early part of last season, when he had 7 or 8 regular first team starters on the team sheet.
Have Norwood and Fleck reached their ceiling? Are Basham and Didsy closing in on their shelf life expiry date?
Looking ahead, I can see them all as automatic choices for the bench come the end of this season.
Big Pharma must be awash with cash right now. I don’t expect a cure for Covid any time soon, but Paracetamol, Diclofenac and Ibuprufen all have potential in Wilders case. After he deals with all the injury problems, he still needs to find a quality strike partnership in the Deane/Agana mold.

Weerz me Panadol? 🙈

We have two top quality exponents of the art of football on our payroll. Berge and Ampadu need to have the team built around them.
We currently have 3 fit and capable strikers on the books. They can fight it out for the two starting berths. We need some flair in midfield and some goals. Let’s use them.
Brewster, Burke and McBurnie could bring out the best in each other.

I believe that Wilder has survived for so long on developing hard working scraps, he can’t see all the talent he has at his disposal.

Since I don't have to think tactically due to not being a manager the odds are stacked so massively against us anyway, and we're hardly going there for the win. Just put out a heavily attacking side (well whatever we can) and just go for it. We don't exactly have anything to lose

Just don't understand this don't play Brewster yet. How is he going to get up to match speed sat on the bench. He has had a pre season with Liverpool, will have been training with us for 3 weeks so fitness should not be an issue. Our strike force is going to be Brewster and one other so need to start it now. Maybe he is not ready yet but will be 90 minutes more ready for the City game if he plays. It is not as iff anyof our other strikes are tearing teams apart. Did Villa ease Watkins in gradually?

Lefs be honest it doesn't matter what side we put out the outcome will be the same 0 points.
You may well be right but it’s how we play that is important
When we lost 0-1 to them last year was when I thought we would hold our own in the Prem

We played very well that day and gave them a game. We’re a different side though now, take away Deano, JOC and an in form Fleck that’s a big chunk of the side. We were solid at the back then, now every time a ball comes into the box we look like conceding.
